I'm glad I found this topic in this forum/message board. I recently started taking a generic form of Claritin D on a daily basis (24 hour dose). I have noticed a marked drop in the quality of my errections, both firmness and length I can maintain. I couldn't figure out what I had possibly changed to cause the issue until I thought about the decongestant product. I recently celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary. My wife and I decided to go skinny dipping late one night while on vacation. A fantasy I have always had was to be pleasured orally (if I may be so graphic) poolside (actually hot tub side). Even with the opportunity to realize that fantasy, I had a difficult time getting and maintaining a quality errection. I have been troubled for several days since, wondering what the heck is going on. Well, I suspect the generic product is the culprit. I would much rather deal with a little congestion than to have a poor errection.
I also have had these issues more noticeably after taking a generic form of Claritin D. It's actually not a generic form, but another product with the exact same ingredients. I say more noticeably because I'm sure I have BPH. But, my BPH symptoms have really been WAY off the scale since starting the decongestant product a few weeks ago. Below is my post regarding the ED...

I've taken antihistamines/decongestant drugs like Benadryl, pseudoephedrine etc. for over 20 years for my allergies and have done self studies as to their capabilities to cause loss of ejaculation. I can say with 100% conviction that this class of drugs does inhibit male ejaculation. 100% of the time I take the drugs I suffer from not being able to ejaculate. When not taking the drugs I've had a 100% success rate in ejaculations. Erections can vary while taking the drugs but without the drugs erections are normal. I've also found that during seasons with extreme high pollen counts ejaculation with or without the drugs can also cause erectile dysfunction. Pseudoephedrine is medically used for patients who suffer from BPH in that the drug strengthens the muscle below the bladder and closes it off so patients don't suffer from what is called retrograde ejaculation. It amazes me as well as others addressing this topic that doctors have no clue that allergy sufferers are affected sexually by both the allergies and drugs. My conclusion is if I plan on having sex I have to discontinue the drug therapy at least 72 hours before I have sex. I've learned to adjust and take the drugs when it's convenient. My girlfriend understands this and prays for long winters. LOL
the very same thing has happened to me on more than one occasion. it happened just last night to me
My husband takes an allergy pill with decongestant every day, and when he started taking it, he became impotent. He denies that he is impotent (although fits the clinical definition) and refuses to stop taking the medicine. You just have to figure out what is most imporant to you...breathing clearly or good sex
GLad to have found this. I have also read claritin causes anxiety and depression along with the ED. I have noticed all of these on the drug but never assumed it was caused by the claritin.
Thank you! I was racking my brain trying to figure out WTH was wrong with me?! I am a 40-year old male, healthy, exercise and eat right. I had never had any issues getting an erection then all of a sudden no matter what I could not get it up during two different periods about 1 1/2 month apart. Guess what I was taking both times for about 1-week? Allegra D. Defintiely done taking it or anything like it.
