Hi. I feel pain in my collarbone and shoulder. I have injured my left shoulder. A friend of mine said my problem is called separated shoulders. She also said surgery is my only option. Is this true?

Hi. I also had collarbone and shoulder pain. I was diagnosed with type III shoulder separation. I had a large bump over my injured acromioclavicular joint. My doctor said surgery is not necessary. He said most patients with type III can do just as well without such procedure. The good part is that way you will also avoid all the risks of surgery. Some may benefit from surgery for type III, athletes for example. I am not an athlete, however. Anyway, type I and II shoulder separations don`t require surgery in most cases. On the other hand, type IV, V and VI always require such procedure.
