This is the WORST thing I could have ever done to my body :'(I had my first shot in April 2012 when I started my period like they tell you too. I was bleeding that whole three months.I talked to my doctor and he said that usually after the second shot woman start to lose their period. So I decided okay, I'll give myself one more shot hoping that it would go away and that second shot was in July. It is now October and I have still not stopped bleeding. This has been going on seven months now and I don't know what to do anymore. I did not go back for my third shot this month because I have had enough and just want my body back to normal. So I've been bleeding seven months and also get this mood swings. Can anyone give me an idea of how much longer I can expect too keep having these symptoms before this c**p is out of my body ? I don't have sex anymore which brings me down, I can tell my husband isn't very turned on by it so I choose not too anymore. I just want my regular body and period back! So if anyone has any experience and can tell me how much longer I will be dealing with this that would be awesome! Thanks.

Kayla, if you haven't stopped bleeding (like what happened to me) my doctor started me on the pill and after the first pill the bleeding stopped. I was a crazy mess before! Just exercise and eat healthy and drink lots of water and stay in a positive mind set because you know it's just the shot side effects affecting you. You should feel back to normal in the next month or couple of months. Each week will feel better and better though. Everyone is different but you will be back to yourself soon enough! I hope your husband understands how hard this has been on you too.

my question is if this is going to continue or will it go away?? i was on the nuva ring previous to the shot and

it gave me head aches and the girl at pph said that she was the same way but after 6 months of being on the nuva ring she

OMG PLEASE DONT GET THE SECOND SHOT! seriously, it only gets worse. Things with my boyfriend were crazy awful because of the shot and almost everyone else on here who had mood and anxiety problems that affected their relationships only kept going with the continuation of the shot. I swear you will be doing you and your boyfriend a favor if you get off it now and maybe try something else. Ive had mine for almost 3 months too and i thought the anxiety and depression was over after the first month, but nope, it came back this 3rd month too and there is no way im ever going to take another one again! I'm glad I'm not alone with the crazyness coming back at the 3rd month though, i thought it was just me, im getting headaches, bleeding for weeks and getting moody all over again. I cant wait until its out of my body :/

google "dysautonomia" sometimes hormones can be a cause of this….its just the bodies way of dealing with anything really. (it can get really complicated to explain it all) anyways…if the symptoms persist i would suggest checking this out and seeing a cardio dr…ask for a sitting/standing/laying down blood pressure, and heart rate to get the diagnosis treatment is blood pressure medication, diet changes etc

I had my first shot just last week Saturday November 12. I have been reading all the comments and I am now contemplating whether or not I made the right decision; and whether or not I should go for the 2nd injection when it becomes due. This is actually my second time on depo, I took it briefly about 3 years ago after the birth of my daughter. I had a total of three injections but discontinued as each time I had my period it lasted about 2 1/2 weeks, I had in between spotting/bleeding and my sex drive was completed annihilated (it was great prior to the depo). And the most unfavorable effect of all was that I had severe hair breakage. I wear my hair a little below shoulder length and I experienced the worst hair loss ever. My hair just kept falling out from the root.

Nevertheless after all that I decided to give it a second go;WHY. I figured maybe it was somehow related to the fact that I had recently had a baby and maybe some hormonal factors that was related to post pregnancy may have played a part. I even thought that may be I was too skinny so my body handled it differently.

But after reading all that you guys had to say, i am thinking why couldn't I found this a few weeks ago. Anyway what I really want to know is, Is there anyone who has been taking it for  the short term, say a year or less and has experienced little or no side effects/ or related symptoms?

I am 29 years old, 5ft 8" and weigh 125lb. Thanks

I have been on the Depo shot for almost 8 years now & am currently 32 years old. I never gained any weight, although the 1st 3 months of the shot, I bled constantly. Once I made it past those 1st three months, I rarely ever get my period now. I may spot or have a mini period 2-3 times a year anywhere from 4wks-1wk before my next shot is due.

BUT, the last year and a half, I have noticed a couple of side effects. Anywhere from 4wks to a week before my next shot is due, I will get awful cramps(although I do not get a period) & extreme nausea(almost like the flu). Sometimes it will not occur, & I'll go 5 months just fine, but more often, I get these flu-like symptoms, along with very bad headaches. My sex drive is almost non-existent, which both myself & my fiancee have noticed. I never attributed the loss of sex drive to the shot... but after reading that it messes with progesterone levels... maybe this is what I'm experiencing?

Hi bobby can i just ask if your hair has stopped falling out yet? and if it has how long after coming off the depo did it take? Hairloss is the only sideeffect im having but it is really effecting me and making me depressed its coming out in clumps every day

I also had taken the shot in June of 2012, only had very light period the second month, then never. I have had no period, I didnt go back for the second shot. I have had many depression phases, overly emotional about little things and cried over almost anything. It made me feel far from who I am as a person and I hated it. I havent even thought about the fights ive been having with my man but after reading everyone's posts i believe it contributed to that as well. I felt nauseous  dizzy, pregnancy symptoms but tests came out negative

yeah i've been on it for about 2 months now, and that was my first shot. the first few weeks i had horrible migraines every day, now i have headaches quite often but not as bad as before, and i've noticed i am reallllyy moody sometimes, to a point where it interferes with my relationship, but we're working things out.

Hi jadeg22

yes thankfully! the hair loss lasted for about 3-4 weeks. It pretty much calmed down on the 11th week post depo.
Try not to let it get you down- it really is just a temporary thing and it will be over soon as long as you don't take any more shots.
I felt like a LOT of my hair came out- every morning the brush was clogged and the hair was everywhere. However, in retrospect, it hasn't made too much of a difference and is only the tiniest bit thinner than before.
I'm still waiting for my period to come back, but other than that things are good :)

Thank you so much for your reply, its good to know that its all going to be over soon. I took my 1st shot just over 9 weeks ago and hair loss started almost immediatley, I will not be getting another shot. Ive read some horror storys saying that some people are still losing hair 2 years after taking depo so really reassuring to hear about you, thank you for giving me hope!

I've been on the Depo Provera shot for about two months and ever since the first shot I haven't had a period at all. I've already taken a pregnancy test from my local clinic and it came back negative so pregnancy isn't a factor. I haven't had any mood swings or anything like that what so ever. Despite the random cramps that I got during the first month everything has been perfect. No changes in libido, in mood, in weight. Nothing at all. But I guess it's different for everyone.
