I had mine done in May 17th and am still pretty sore and can't stand for the area to be touched. I had the trim method done. Mine were 2 CM long and are now less than 1 CM. I don't know what the end result will be because they are still swollen. I am shocked to hear how well you have done with your recovery. I understand the wedge or "V" cut makes a difference in the way you heal. Do you mind sharing how long they were before and after? How are you doing now?

This is Sandra writing again. I am doing very well. It is now 19 days since my surgery. I an still a bit swollen, and some darker color all along where there is still some swelling. I hope this will go away in the next few weeks?! Otherwise, I am perfectly healed with no problems with the stiches ( all stitches resolved within a week) and no bleeding. I have been back to normal activities since day 3 after my surgery. I do not have any pain, but still a little bit soar. I also have been itching a bit in the scar tissue, which is normal.

How are you doing?!'n

I am terribly depressed and wish I had someone to talk to. I just don't feel like my labiaplasty turned out perfect, but it's only been 3 weeks. One side is longer than the other and I am still sore. The Vicodin makes me feel better, but I am afraid I am addicted to the good feeling it gives me because I feel like sh*t otherwise. I just want to sleep all the time and don't have much enthusiasm for life. :-

It's probably swelling that is causing one to appear longer right now. I am still a little bit soar too, and its 3 weeks for me today. If you have chaffing, it will make it a lot more painful and soar. I use Vaseline on scar tissue every day. This helps with any rubbing.

The pain killers will make you tired and relaaaxed...I only used it the first day and night.

Have you been back to your doctor? Did you use a ObGyn or plastic surgeon? I has another follow up yesterday, and my surgeon said that everything looked great. She said that I needed to expect 6 full weeks for all the swelling to be gone completely. However, I am fully 'cleared' and I have even resumed relations with my husband.

I will be checking in here so we can talk!

Sandra, Thanks for responding. I had my labiaplasty done by a plastic surgeon. I had a tear from childbirth years ago and the OBGYN didn't fix it correctly and therefore I thought the plastic surgeon would do better with the area for scar reduction and to make it look nice. My previous OBGYN was a good doctor, but she didn't have much of a concept of aesthetics. She didn't think that my 2CM long labia was abnormal at all. I know that they weren't grossly large, but they still stuck out a little and when pulled they would pull open the improperly healed tear from childbirth that was adjacent to my clitoris - terrible! I actually went to my regular doctor because I was so depressed yesterday. I have been on Prozac for years and I don't do well at all without it. My doctor told me that Percocet and Vicodin, which I have been taking both, actually compete for metabolism in your liver with Prozac and typically win. She said that the Percocet & Vicodin were nullifying my Prozac and that once I get off these pain meds I should feel back to normal after 4 to 5 days. She also said that most surgeon's don't realize these pain meds have that blocking effect on Prozac and didn't bland the plastic surgeon at all for not knowing. My regular doctor is a family practitioner, but her real specialty is in women's health and women's mental health issues. I will go back to see my plastic surgeon next week for the one month check up. Hopefully the left side will be as diminished as the right side by then. You are probably correct in that it is just still swollen. The plastic surgeon did tell me after all to expect for 80-90% of the swelling to be gone by the six weeks after (using the trim method.) It is just really hard to wait that long!!

Sounds like our situation was very similar. Mine was about 3 cm. I also had a horrible tear in childbirth and the patch up job was terrible. Plus. Mine inner labia went through a lot of swelling in my first pregnancy and became longer. For me, I was just tired of looking at it sticking out and I was also bothered by it when wearing certain clothes.

Just let it heal. I would not stress about anything before the 6 week mark. In fact, the final results are 6 months to 1 year. However, after 6-8 weeks, you should feel good about the results.

I am glad your primary physician caught in to the pain killers blocking the anti depressants. Try to only use over the counter if you can - it should be sufficient at this point.

Good luck to you and please ask me any questions you might have. I am 39 by the way. And have had two vaginal births. The first birth being my hardest one bc my son was almost 10 pounds.

I had labiaplasty 2..5 weeks ago I dont know what to think yet... One side looks bigger than the other although overall a lot smaller than before... sometimes I wake up feeling so dry like my skin is mummifying or something even though i put oil the night before :( I wish I had asked the surgeon not to touch the my labia right by the vaginal entry since there is so much friction during sex and that area feels still so sore... I think I will be afraid to have sex by the 6 week :( how are you girls doing?

Sandra, thank you for being supportive and sharing about your personal experiences. I can't believe you had a 10 pound baby! Woah. My daughter was only 7 pounds but I literally had her standing up and I gave it one hard push after she crowned and pushed her out in one shot. For anyone reading this, don't ever do that. You have to let the area stretch out slowly and not try to push your baby out all at one moment. No one told me not to do that and I didn't think that I would tear, but I did and have had to live with it for a long time. I am at 5 weeks as of yesterday and I am still a little swollen and the area is sore to touch. With the trim method you are suppose to wait 6 weeks before sex and I can see why. Waterlily, if you aren't that far along then like every one else, you will have to give it some time. I still ice myself every night and avoid warm baths because it can increase the swelling by drawing blood to the area. Like Sandra said, it can take months to a year for final healing results and I have heard that from many people. Who would think that such a simple surgery would take so long to heal from? One odd suggestion is to try using hemorrhoid ointment on the swollen areas. The active ingredient works to shrink swollen and inflamed tissue and if you buy an ointment with an oil base it will stay on for a while and keep the area moist and somewhat protected.

I was thinking about the Hemmoroid cream too. I should try to find an oil based one. I still feel drier in the inner labia area than I ever did before surgery. Mine is still a bit swollen on the left side while right side look and feel close to perfect. About a week ago, I noticed that I had one stitch left and I am wondering if it's still a stitch left on the keft side (and skin has healed over) bc I kind of feel that it's something there. Yesterday, I also noticed a hole there that I had not seen before. I am a bit confused by this. I am waiting until Monday, and then I will call my surgeon if it does not look better.

All in all, I am happy with results. Not sure it looks like a designer vagina, bit I will say that it's an improvement.

I have resumed sexual activity with just a little bit soreness. Just have to make sure to use lubricants.

Dr. Stern VA/DC/FL. He is the most experienced surgeon in the US. You WILL be satisfied. I had the procedure done under local and was painting my bathroom the next week. Go for it!

I just want to add my experience to help those of you out there:
I had labiaplasty in London last December. It was totally successfull, I am overjoyed, and at last I feel like a 'normal' woman!
BUT. I did a LOT of research, and only went with my surgeon when I found out she is super-experienced, recommended by lots of people, and I even exchanged emails pre-op with someone she had operated on.
Also: it takes a long, long time to heal properly. Give it 6 months to heal, I kid you not!! Do NOT expect instant results. Expect swelling, discomfort, itching.... For a while mine looked pretty awful, and one bit kept scabbing over, bleeding and opening again.
Please, please make sure you do your research and pick someone who is well qualified (my surgeon was a woman - I think this may have helped me feel confidence in her).

Dr. Red Alinsod in Laguna Beach, CA. He is second to none. I have healed beautifully. HE IS A TRUE ARTIST. He is world renowned for his skill and for his pioneering and technological advancements in labiaplasty as well as other vaginal surgeries. His before and after pictures on his website speak for themselves. He is really that good. And he doesn't use a scalpel or scissors for labiaplasty. His tool is amazing because it does FAR LESS tissue damage which allows you to heal faster and better.. He is the best. Everyon that is even good at it at all has probably studied with him or gone to his conferences. He's the only one I would ever consider for this. FLAWLESS PRECISION. I am only 5 weeks out and I look amazing and feel good too. I go for my post op in a few weeks and I am excited to see him again and thank him for such an amazing and beautiful job he did. He gave me my confidence back.
