Hi there, I was off on a 4 month leave due to this issue, I have bulging discs C5 and C6 and it causes migraines and gives me a headache from just turning my neck too much. I've had 2 epidurals, about 10 injections of some sort of pain med in my neck and back of my head and now the area is permanently numb which I'm not sure if they were called nerve blocks but had that done too, was on neurontin, ultram and percocet but all of this was temporary and as we speak I'm sitting here at work with sunglasses on because of the horrible headache that's on the verge of a migraine. So, don't go to a pain dr. Waste of time. I've been told to see an orthopedicc spinal surgeon and neurosurgeon. Sounds scary but I'll do anything. My job is on the line and can't have that. I wish you good luck. :)

I have been suffering from headaches for a year and a half and my Neurologist thought it was as a result of my post cerebral coiling and embolization procedure due to my Dural AV fistula discovered and they have been treating me for pain with no luck just 3 weeks ago I have sent to a pain clinic because I started having neck and arm pain and my Doctor sent me for an MRI where they discovered the bulging discs from between c4 and c5 and from c6-c7 he is suggesting the epidural shot and I am scheduled to have it done next week and if these discs is what has been causing my headaches I will so Grateful to my doctor for discovering the bulging discs because my Neuro surgeon and Neurologist have been telling me they are tapped out as far as finding out how to treat my head pain and I have exactly the same symptoms described above. I get a sharp shooting pain at the top of my head and pressure pain at the back of my head that also feels HOT and now pain goes down my neck which feels like my neck swells up and gets stiff then I get a hot tingling sensation going down my left shoulder to the elbow until it hits my finger tips and my hand goes numb and then all the pain on the arm disappears and then it comes periodically throughout the day and night that even wakes me up in the middle of the night it hurts so much.... I also don't have any other health problems, no high blood pressure, never been on any medication until this post procedure and I am now on Topamax, Effexor and amlodipine to keep my brain nerves relaxed which I don't think its working... so glad I found this article now I don't feel I am alone or going crazy... Thanks for sharing your stories.

I have 3 discs in my spinal cord in my neck and four that are close. Seems I was born this way and was completly confused why I was in chronic pain from age 20 to 36 when I was at the end of my rope. Then I started cotisone injections- three every year. This helped but I still had pain if I did anything different with my arms and still had 5 or more migraines a month.

The last time i had an injection- my Dr. hit a nurve and my left side jumped off the tabel- twice. I drove home and an hour later I was dry heaving and calling my Dr. He did nothing. I felt I was hit with a sledge hammer and dry heaved for 5 and a half hours. My Dr. did nothing to help me as I lay on the bathroom floor. I was afraid to ge to the hospital as i have low blood suger and pressure and i could see them giving me meds and making me worse. Horrible. A year later I am trying a younger Dr. who may not hit a nerve. I was also dizzy and nausious for ten days and had to work. Yeah.

Nurontin- made me have the 5 % side effect of stiff hips and I could barely walk- otherwise I loved it. Hate pain meds and I eat 8 advil a day and about six migraine meds a week sometimes. Believe me- I am so wanting stem cells to give me a new disc- anything to make this pain go away.

I feel for you all - chronic pain has effected my life in every way. I am disabled and I hate not being able to train (work out), do many sports, work hard, play hard, and feel physically strong. I hate it.

Atheria,
Sounds like Chiari malformation. Keep talking to neurologists and neurosurgeons until you get answers. Good luck.

Hi, I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I was in a car accident that resulted in 3 protruding discs. Just stopped Neurontin yesterday. I think you should try Cymbalta or Tramadol. Those 2 were recommended to me.
As far as shots, had 'em all, too. What worked (so well) were tiny shots filled with Lidocaine called Trigger Point Injections. Constant headaches can also be helped with botox at the base of the neck (haven't done that yet-will let you know).
This is Hell, I know. I will let you know so we can help each other. Peace to you all.

Oh my God, M2CW-I'm so sorry to hear of this. You are exactly right-I've used almost exactly the same word-a clamp. A headband, vice. . .. What an ordeal for you, though. I hope you find some relief..
Yes. I agree-finding a good doctor is like looking for a needle in a haystack while you're just indescribably sick and at your very worst.
Thanks for the info. I find it's the people who've been there, not the doctors, who are the most helpful.
I have many of these symptoms, as well. I'm scheduled to see an orthopedic doc. Well, not yet. I was too ill from all the *** medications to even pick up the phone. Neurontin was helpful at first, then Not AT aLL-tstl. You have to titrate off, though.
What has worked for me-trigger point injections (you cannot have too many, though), ummmm-yea, that's it. Lidoderm patches are also helpful, but getting the insurance company to pay is nearly impossible. They are much cheaper in Canada.
I am thinking about getting Botox in the occipital lobe if these headaches continue. I've heard they are extremely helpful. I've had cortisone shots there. Not at all helpful. In fact, it actually hurt a few days later, and the risk for infection is high.
I am also ridiculously tired all the time. ??
Thanks for the good info. I hope you feel better.

What an ordeal. Has anyone recommended Botox at the occipital lobe? Does your head feel heavy?
I hope you get relief.

I have a bulging disc between c2 and c3 and was getting constant headaches as well. Has anyone tried a cranial sacral therapist? It has helped me immensely. I'm losing faith in the medical doctors I have seen.

Hi reesabub,

I had the same problems for 20 years plus facial numbness, stabbing pains back of eyes.

I recently fixed the lot without the help of specialists simply by drinking at least 1 bottle of water with 1 drop of oil of oregano over the last 6 months. Just like your car needs an occasional lube job so does your body. Also if you sniff the bottle you will never have a cold or flu again?

Atheria, it sounds like you may have chiari (key-r-ee) malformation. This is when the cerebellum is pushing out through the bottom of the skull. I would look into this further if I were you.

I have this issue too. Constant pain in my neck from severe muscle spasm that doesnt let up. A constant feeling of pressure, or fullness inside my skull. That never stops. I too have tried all the conservative methods, chiropractor, physical therapy, cortisone injections, pain meds, alot of other meds, spinal taps. None of it worked. By God's grace i finally got a neurosurgeon to validate, confirm what is going on. the discs in my neck are putting pressure on my spinal cord causing an interruption in the flow of spinal fluid so it is building up in my skull. Again, by God's grace I am going in for surgery tomorrow to have 2 discs replaced and the surgeon said it should relieve the pressure, pain immediately. 2 years of misery and it may finally be over. All i can recommend is to keep going to doctors until one finally listens to you and will do what is needed to help you. good luck to you.
