I have some of the symptoms mentioned above as well. The last 2 days I have experienced feeling very hungry and have almost constant hunger pains, but they are in my upper abdomen just below my ribs. I wake up through the night with these pains and can not fall back asleep until I eat something or drink lots of water.
One strange commonality I noticed between my situation and the first post is that I also recently started working at a coffee shop (for past 3-4 weeks) and having been eating some more sweets that usual. I have noticed a bit of weight gain but that has been over the past 6 months and not an excessive amount. Otherwise, I eat fairly well. I have been getting headaches almost daily for the past month which sometimes presents itself with nausea, but I think that could be unrelated and may just be my neck/sinuses (I do attend a chiropractor).
Hopefully will find out what this is...if it presists I will go to the doctor, but I have a strong fear of needles so I'm worried about getting bloodwork done...

I am having symtoms very similar to others that have posted.
I am a young woman, 22 years old, and have had hunger pains in my upper abdomen for the past 2 days. Does not seem to matter how much I eat/drink they are still present. They are the worse in the morning, they have woken me up anywhere from 4-6am starving and have to get toast or water to settle it so I can get back to sleep; then I wake up starving again. Shouldn't have been hungry during either night because I ate lots before bed.
One thing I noticed as a similarity to the initial post is that I also started working at a coffee shop in the past month and have been eating/drinking more sweet foods than normal. Some other possible symptoms and causes are that last week it seemed as though my boyfriend had a virus and then there was one day that I thought I might have it because I felt sick all throughout a day but ended up being fine. Also, seems like I had been having a reduced apetite before this occurred, wasn't sure why...may have been being while working I never noticed much if I was hungry due to being busy?? I have also gained a little bit of weight over the past 6 months. Plus I have been having headaches that often presents with nausea over the past month but it may be unrelated and just be neck/sinuses (I attend a chiropractor)...
Hopefully will find out what this is or hoping that it will just go away...I will go to the doctor if it presists, but I have a strong fear of needles, so I'm trying to avoid that route if possible...

Ok, i just read all the entries and i can't believe how many people are describing my symptoms!! Constant hunger pains, sometimes so painful i feel like i could vomit. But when i eat, i'm full after only eating a little bit. I do have a hiatus hernia and am awaiting surgery to have my gallbladder removed (i have a huge stone). It's gotta be related to one of these but this is the first time i've have hunger pains like this. I've also been having mild dizzy spells as someone else described having. I'd rather it be related to one of these than have a worm in my gut! if anyone gets a solid answer, let everyone know!

Wow! I had no idea this many people are going through the same thing. My "hunger pains" usually come in the a.m. it will wake me from a dead sleep, like I haven't eaten in days, it gets to the point I can't eat if the pain goes for too long, but usually, as soon as I eat something the pain will go away for a while (if I don't puke first). I have also developed seizures, and I feel it in my body that the 2 are connected, and for the life of me I can NOT seem to gain any weight. I know to a lot of people that wouldn't be a complaint, but I am 27 yrs old and only 100 lbs. I'm tired of people always asking me if I'm sick or anorexic! I eat like crazy, all the food I eat just falls into the black hole that I call my stomach, FRUSTRATING! I've had lots of tests done but they have found nothing. I was thinking it might be Celiac Disease. Just make sure to really research it, cause there are 2 different sets of symptoms. I need to have my stomach scoped, asap.

OMG so many people with the same symptoms!!
OK a bit of recent mecical history
During my last pregnancy from about 6 weeks I had heartburn which I was expecting but this time around it was a LOT worse than the other 2 pregnancies. At 34 weeks I started getting severe hunger pains and pain in my back...put it down to pregnancy

I gave birth 5 months ago and developed a uterus infection which was treated with antibiotics and a few days later the severe hunger pains and back pain returned. I also felt nauseous although I was never sick. The pain was so bad that in one night I went to the emergency doctors, then had doctors out and then had paramedics out. Was sent for a scan for suspested gall stones but the scan was clear. By this time the pains had gone and the sonographer said that maybe I had stone(s) that had passed.

A week ago I had a sickness and diarrhoea bug that lasted 24 hours. On the Monday I was put on antibiotics by my dentist for a severe infection giving me chronic toothache. I was also given strong painkillers...diahydrocodeine 30mg (2 taken 3 times a day) I had an allergic reaction and stopped taking both types of tablets prescribed and was given different antibiotics.

Tuesday (same day as allergic reaction) I started to get the hunger pains again and kept trying to eat to get rid of them but was too full, although my stomach was telling me otherwise, by the next day I had bad back pains again too, also had a crippling headache and very sore neck almost felt like someone had tried to strangle me - so went to the doctors who said it is one of the 3 major signs of diabetes...this morning I went for a blood test after fasting for 12 hours. i will get the results next wednesday. Whilst in the waiting room a diabetic friend that I bumped into tested my blood glucose with her kit and level was 4.4 which she said was low but could be due to fasting. have since had differing opinions but GLu amalayse test results should tell me more.

I have tried eating the things advised to stop a hypo as my doctor said I was showing signs of them but it has made no difference so dont think I am diabetic

Got a feeling this is gonna be an ongoing thing....in a way I hope the pains dont disappear again before they figure out what causes them

Maybe it is a side effect from infection or from antibiotics, too many painkillers, still could be diabetes, gall stones has been ruled out from a scan BUT maybe they missed something because they did the scan so bloomin quick I hardly had time to lay on the bed!!

Fingers crossed they figure out what is causing this weirdest of pains

So I went to the docstors with my list of symptoms and the suggestion that it was Candida and she blew it outta the water! She said that antibiotics couldnt have upset my stomach(?????!!!!!!!!) and then she started trying to psycho analyse me and making out I am a hypocondriac and said I probably had stomach ache from not eating the right things...... Stupid woman!!!!! How did she explain the other 25 symptoms on my list??!! She said that is either Diabetes (test came back negative) or my thyroid. It was tested just over a year ago and was fine but she is insistant that its what is causing my symptoms. I tick EVERY box for Candida and only a few for thyroid so I am sticking with my theory. I read about the various ways to treat Candida and though I would start with the first that I came across - less carbohydrates and less sugar in the diet along with upping your intake of probiotics

Well I still had the pains until I had finished the course of antibiotics and since I have been having probiotic drinks and yoghurts every day and have cut down on the carbs and sugar and my stomach feels great....no more severe hunger pains in fact I am feeling less hungry than before the attacks which is good because I really need to diet anyway! I hadnt realised how bloated my stomach was, but now it has gone right down and I am feeling so well and healthy and, touch wood, dont have any symptoms at all that I have had over the past year!!!! Fingers crossed it continues......hoping that starting with the probiotic drinks and yoghurts isnt just a coincidence but I aint gonna stop them now!! I have had no headaches, no back or neck pain, my skin is clearing up already, I dont feel as stressed. I had been suffering from excess sweating and had tried every anti-perspirant on the market but nothing worked but over the last few days it has improved dramatically and no longer smells....so glad not to be having to wash and change every few hours! I had the beginning of vaginal thrush which has now gone and my athletes foot has also started to clear up at long last

the biggest thing for me though is feeling in control of my life again which I havent felt like I have been doing for about 18 months. I feel on top of the world and sooooooo glad not to have any illness or ache or pain to moan about!!!

My husband said I am like a different person

Hope this advice works for others that are suffering...good luck, Kerri xx

Hi I am a soldier in Iraq. I woke up one morning, starving.. my stomach hurt so bad i felt dizzy from the pain. The only thing I could compare it to is some years ago I swallowed a cup of some really super hot sauce, after about 5 minutes it began to hurt my upper abdomen alot, the pain was so unbearable I forced myself to throw up as I felt my body was going into shock from the pain and was starting to faint. Anyway, tone it down a notch from that, and thats how bad my hunger pains are. They don't go away completely, they just lesson throughout the day. It's worst when I actually am hungry, I've learned to eat quickly in order to get food down, but that just makes me feel super bloated. I talked to the medic about it, and he gave me some Nexium which is for ulcers and acid reflux, says if that doesn't work come back. I'll let you know, if it works. If not, i'll let you know also. I'm not the only one here who developed these symptoms at the same time, so it's a good chance it's some sort of virus.

Well this is the same soldier from the previous post. the Nexium worked. I still feel a little hungry all the time but the pain is completely gone. I had no negative side affects from the nexium either. So i would suggest to try that. I only took one does, and it took about 50 minutes to start working, and its been a day and the pain has not returned.

I have these same symptoms: stomach pain thats worse in the morning and better when I eat, I've been getting more dizzy recently, my blood pressure is lower, I have been having diarrhea off and on. I just want it to stop. My doctor did blood work today and I am going to see a specialist in a week and a half. If anyone has gotten an answer on what they have please let me know. I'll be sure to post what the specialist says, he's one of the best in the state and is my Uncle so hopefully he will get to the bottom of it.

I can't believe how many are suffering from this (for lack of a better word) nuisance. No, it's more than a nuisance. I have been enduring this scourge for something like 7 years. I saw a GI specialist and had a colonoscopy, upper endoscopy with biopsies taken. Biopsies came back negative for H. pylori. Negative for ulcers. Nobody can figure this out. All blood tests were normal. No diabetes, no ulcers, no nothing, but the fact remains that for the last 7 years I have been going crazy with this crushing off the charts hunger. The gastro doctor who did the diagnostic studies and labs attributed these symptoms to IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). It didn't make sense to me because it's not my lower intestines (although when this hunger does flare up, I do notice cramping, like diarrhea is coming on). Sometimes I will have loose stools. Sometimes the crushing hunger will trigger my lower intestines into a frenzy. I used to take a lot of NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Excedrin Migraine (I am a migraineur) and that's pretty much is when this all started. I cannot take anything that has either aspirin in it (Excedrin Migraine) or ibuprofen. It just makes things worse. Now what I do find helpful is Tums or Mylanta. Either of those two quells the burning hunger. My mother is 80 years old and lives with me. She has rheumatoid arthritis and is taking methotrexate (it's oral chemo), so her immune system is quite compromised. Several months ago, my mother was complaining of the same kinds of symptoms, but she couldn't eat. She lost weight. I, on the other hand, have gained weight and although I'm not obese, this is the heaviest I have ever been - AND I CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT! My mother went to a doctor and via a blood test, it turned out she was infected with H. pylori. That's a nasty bacteria that can cause ulcers which may lead to gastric cancer. I was alarmed and had my blood drawn for H. pylori, because I was thinking my mother must have caught it from me and that I have been misdiagnosed all these years. The blood test came back negative. So here I am, miserably enduring it out.

I hope someone here writes back if they found a treatment for this.

HELP! ive been brought to frustrated tears from this constant hunger pain that ive had for the past few weeks. I'm an 18 year old female, 140lbs, have always been healthy and active. But for some reason, my stomach will not stop burning! ive even considered taking appetite suppressants despite much warning not to.

Ive thought that perhaps since ive just started working in a coffee shop again, that it may be the sweets and the acid in the coffee...but its nothing that exceeds what id normally eat without the job. I dont go overboard with it.
Or...that my mother hasnt really been feeding me like she used to since shes gotten a new job and im trying to take care of myself. Granted, ive had speghettios for lunch more that once a week...but URGH! there hasnt been an earth shattering change in my diet!

It hurts so bad, and i cant control it...why?!?!?! what is wrong with me?!

Hi there,

I too have had this horrible hunger burning nawing in my stomach now for sometime. Esspecially in the morning. My doctor put me on previcid 2 times a day and I also take zantac 150 2 times a day. It does help. I went to see a natrualpath and he said it was gastritis, and harsh pain meds can cause the stomach liner to burn and so he said I needed something to heal it. I'm not totally sure about it, since it is still there, but then again I drink coffee everyday and that causes acids. Maybe stay away from acidy fruit juces and coffee, and try zantac 150 2 times a day to start to see if it makes a difference. i have been through the ringer with all sorts of tests including a colonostomy, barrium swallow, 3 stomach endocopsies, many blood test and no h pylori and so on. So I would reccomend the zantac 150. You have nothing to loose by trying it.

You are probably drinking more coffee working in a coffee shop, and coffee produces acid, which can cause burning esspecially if you have gastritis, which is inflamation of the stomach lining. Also Ibprofen and harsh pain meds are hard on your stomach and can cause gastritis, so stay away from them as much as possible. Go to Walmart and get some Zantac 150 and take it 2 times a day and don't drink coffee of acidy fruits or juices. I bet this will help you Best of luck!! Let me know if it helps!!!

Take Digestive Enzymes, I have suffered with this hunger problem with burning sensation for years, I do also suffer with IBS. I started taking Digestive Enzymes which were recommended to me by a nutritionist for my IBS and they have really helped with the hunger pains.

My nutritionist said its usually because a high percentage of people lack enough digestive enzymes in there gut to help break down the food properly and this in turn causes an acid build up which simulates the hunger pains (acid Burning).

Its worth a try they are really helping me.

During the past week, I've had pains in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon, and at the night too.
I thought i was just a stomach bug until after my meals, my stomach started to make hunger noises and pains.

I thought a couple of times after that i was just hungry, but i ate so much that i almost exploided and my stomach still made these exact pains. I no i am not pregnant as i have been on my period during these pains, before the pains and after the pains.
Later after that i thought it could have been period pains, but then i got off my period and the pains are still here.

Ive also been getting quite hot in the middle of the day, but i feel my forehead and it is normal. Does anyone know what these symptoms are a sign of?

I dont know what it could possibly be as i have occasional stomach bugs, but this pain is nothing compared to my previous bugs.
Should i see a doctor or am i just paranoid. And does anyone know what could be wrond with me?
