Hi. For the past two or so months, I have been suffering from what the doctor claims are hemmorrhoids.
Here are my symptoms:
-swollen rectal area
-difficulty in having bowel movements: feels like my rectum is turning inside out
-passing many, many times a day a redish-pinkish slimy substance some of which floats on the water and some sinks to the bottom
-gripping pain during and dull pain after BMs
Received advice and treatments:
So far the doctor has shoved his finger in my rear end, felt around and said I am suffering from hemmorrhoids. I don't not believe him, I am however skeptical that he may not be looking .
He has now taken blood tests as well and I await the results.
I have been using suppositories and lotions, but feel they might not be helping as they end up in the toilet bowl after only being inside a short time.
The doctor also prescribed a bran supplement with ispaghula. It does seem to help with the BMs.
Anyway, do you think he should be looking for other causes for these symptoms and/or prescribing other treatments.
Respectfully,
B.deep enough.

I think that your doctor found the cause of your symptoms. He felt the hemorrhoids but you may not be able to get rid of them by using suppositories. It is normal that you are skeptical since you are not getting any relief but the probable reason your doctor didn’t look further is because your symptoms do not match other diseases.
All of your symptoms do resemble hemorrhoids’ symptoms and yet your doctor found the hemorrhoids. You may need to undergo a procedure to get rid of them and it is certain that you need to work on your nutrition and take supplements for now to make your bowel movements possible.
I think your doc is on the right track but if you just can’t put your mind at ease, you may either ask for colonoscopy (I have never heard that people went colonoscopy voluntarily) for look for second opinion if you believe that this doctor is not on right tracks.
