Just about two months ago I had surgery on my RIGHT shoulder for bone spur removal and impingement syndrome. Had the nerve block after which doc ok'd, but didnt give me so I had to fight with the nurses to make sure it was done. I just started physical therapy two and a half weeks ago. The heat and ice are effective very temporarily. Thing is it's almost 9 weeks post op and I'm almost still just as much in pain as I was almost prior before surgery. Limited mobility although maybe slightly improved. Should I really be in this much pain this long after surgery. It starts from the incision on the front of my shoulder and the one back and sometimes radiates down my arms. Having a terrible time sleeping, often wakes me up quite a few times at night. to make things worse, two weeks after my surgery I fell down a few outside steps and went to e.r. E.r. doc said it was just a sprain and had the balls to ask me "how are you gonna get around" (because I wasn't allowed to use crutches)....needless to say he sent me home with two pain pills and 1 crutch. LoLol needless to say I went to my doc who performed the shoulder surgery and that's when he saw the two broken bones in my foot. He dumbfounded cause he couldn't give me crutches or walker and my apartment is not very wheelchair accessible. So he ended up casting it.
Guess my point is, is that I'm a little over two months And still in excruciating pain most of the time and that's with pain meds. Pt isn't even trying to help with pain relief anymore, just trying to get my mobility back. Doc doesn't understand why I'm still in so much pain and PT thinks it may have something To do with the scar tissue that formed. Regardless he is hesitant and sometimes won't give me prescriptions to get through my days and nights
Any thoughts as to why I'm still in so much pain? could it be from the scar tissue, or perhaps maybe another surgery in the future. Any help would be resourseful and welcomed. thank you :)
Again, any suggestions or questions I may be able disaster my doc may make him think I'm not insane
My husband had rotator cuff shoulder surgery 12 days ago and has not slept for any length of time since, even when on opium based meds and sleeping tablets. It is reassuring to hear other peoples stories because no doc told him that this level of pain is normal! He has been admitted to hospital 3 days ago due to an infection in the wound - got the remainder of the 15 staples removed today. Any advice on the most effective painkillers? any other advice?
I had left shoulder surgery may 9 2013 and still in a lot of pain. More than before the surgery bone spurs removed and still have impingement can't raise my arm up only half way and the gets stuck I go to pt twice a week really does not help meds and ice are my relief I lost my job because I could not return to work to my full time position anyone else had that happen? My surgeon says it will take up to a year or never recover really messed up my life having this done so cannot work and get no unemployment because I can't work and fighting the insurance company still for $ I am 55 so I guess my age does not help I guess I won't be going back to the gym lifting weights anymore... Thinking about a second opinion yea they tell you to use your arm but then it hurts more I still wear my sling just for relief also have a lot of left rib pain anyone have this too?
I am 8 months post op still in a lot of pain dr can't figure out why says it will take up to a year so I lost my job because I could not work my full time job sucks! Don't give up use your ice packs and rest try to keep busy so not think about the pain I have fallen 4 times on my shoulder since my surgery due to meds so I am very very careful what I do I go to pt twice a week really does not help but helps my spirits think positive which hi know is hard I have many bad days... Especially with no money coming in. All the best
I do not know if you are still having issue, but I had the same surgery 9/12/2011 on my right and than 2/12/2012 on my left I am still under doctors care taking apin meds 3 x a day, I can't sleep I don't like driving so if you find the answer please let me know.
Wow! I thought I was the only one! Had bone spurs removed from left shoulder 2005, relatlively good result. Had 8" clavicle spur + acromium spur removed from R shoulder 2011, and still can barely move arm. Dr has no idea what wrong/how to fix. I live for ibuprofen.
So disappointing. Frustrating.
But surprised to hear I'm not the only one. Sorry for all your pain, folks.
I had surgery to remove a bone spur and to remove some arthritis in my left shoulder mid March 2014. I could not reach out or lift my arm above my head. The Orthopedist thought it was a rottor cuff tear but it turned out to be a bone spur. So the bone ( I am assuming clavicle) was shaved. It has been two months sine the surgery and my arm and shoulder ache more now than they ever did before the surgery. The ache is constant but worsens the more I use my arm. I am still in therapy . I can now reach out with the arm and extend it above my head but I cannot move it to my back. It has been miserable . The ache at night , however, has lessened because I can now sleep further into the night without awakening. The ache did extend down the arm but I think that was radiating from the shoulder. Now it is confined to the shoulder. Hopefully it will continue to improve because there is just so much tylenol or advil one can take before creating another problem, I have another checkup at the end of May and we will see what the Orthopedist says about the aching then which i am sure will still be present.
I have had shoulder sugery for bone spur and arthritis along with a torn ligament in my right shoulder back in 2012. I'm now getting pain back in my shoulder as if it's a spur again
On 6-17-14 I had left shoulder surgery.it was for frozen shoulder,ac arthritis, and bone spurs. The doctors try to do nervor block but were un able for some reason. When I woke up for surgery I had never felt that much pain in my life.My shoulder was really hurting bad. They told me they gave me almost all the meds they had.Well any way to make a long story short. One week after surgery I start phy. thp. and the things I do at phy.thp. really makes it hurt more.Everybody says its gonna get better but I still hurt every time I have to use my left arm and shoulder area. Now its been 2 weeks of phy.thp. and I am still in pain. The one thing I would like to know is how long it takes to recover from surgery. And be able to sleep good at night again.Cause its really hard at night to sleep even with sleeping pills and pain meds.
Hallelujah, I'm not crazy!! I had my second surgery in 2 years to "clean out" my shoulder. First was arthrscopic, second was open (which was less uncomfortable than the scope btw). Discovered a Hill Sachs but said it was not fixable. Started feeling better then 3 months post op started with terrible pain again. Doctor says I'm fine but my pain tells me otherwise. He suggests 12 Motrin a day, I think he nuts. Guess I will have to go find a third ortho. This is crazy!
I'm scheduled to have surgery on my neck caused by arthritis and bone spurs. The pain never goes away and it takes away life for me. Am I going to move my neck after the surgeon or just be able to move lightly.? My pinched nerves have also go up to the top of my head, How much movement will I have?
Had 2 bone spurs removed in right shoulder on April23,2014went through the whole therapy and still 5 months later have constant pain in bicep and arm. Doc says takes time. Now therapy says I have a pinch nerve. Can't sleep and have hard time reaching. Restricted to 40 lbs. lifting below the waist and ten lbs. above head. Now going to get a second opinion. I work for and elevator, hard to do things I use to. Know what your going through, tried everything. Had me on Advil, quit taking it and went it went to ibuprofen and Tylenol in between, easier on stomach.
