little is actually known about acne other than louse oil glands which become inflamed and caught w bacterial leading to inflammation. cortisone helps because it reduces inflammation and redness. anti biotics help kill off bacteria. but ultimately is not about blood, etc. hormonal changes may affect acne as more oil is produced and if more is caught in pores, can lead to infection and then acne spots. it is a simple cycle.
wash before going to sleep. use a retin a, or finacea which cleans skin and lowers bacteria count, wash face, take an anti biotic if needed and have acne spots injected w cortisone to make them disappear fast if you need to

Having suffered from very bad acne recently and been very depressed about this, a friend recommended I get some chinese Herbal Remedies. I'm 32 years old so it couldn't be teenage acne. I did this and was told by the Chinese Health doctor that my blood was possibly too hot and I had a hormonal imbalance in my system. I paid £200 for an eight week course of herbas which I had to boil and then simmer for 20 mins and drink in the evening and again in the morning. The drink really wasn't pleasant and you do have to persevere with it because at certain points my skin looked to be worse not better. However I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who is at their wits end. I didn't like parting with so much money especially as I thought the NHS should have helped me more (I just got anti biotics and told to go away byt he doctor on numerous occassions) but I genuinely do think it wors (well, it has for me) so don't give up hope and good luck..

I woke up this morning and every one of them had either reduced dramatically or disappeared altogether.

The only issue with coritsone injections, as i understand, is they can occassionally lead to atrophy in the skin where the injection is given. In some cases, this can result in the creation of an intendation where the pimple was. Usually, however, these go away over time even if they occur.

I found out about this book 3 years ago and it changed my life. I have seen 4 dermas, a naturopath and 2 acupuncturists and nothing helped more than the advice on this book. If you are looking for instant gratification without solving the underlying problem then, by all means, go get that shot, if you want to get rid of your acne for good, read this book. The only thing I don't agree with is that the author says that it doesn't matter what kind of skincare to use, I think it does matter. By the way Jynx_in_Jax, your skin is the largest organ, and it has been referred to as your third kidney because of all the toxins you eliminate through sweat, etc.

Wow. For those of you influenced by the romantic 18th century notion that YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU EAT. Give me a break. You give your body instructions on how to function by what you put in your mouth. Your body can even change at the genetic level by what you eat. Genetics are not the root cause of ANYTHING.

Example:
If my father's body was designed to eat beans, but ate meat, and got acne as a result, what is the root cause? (meat) Now, if my body wasnt designed to digest meat either, and I have acne, what is the root cause? Are you just simply going to say its genetic or stop eating that meat? When you say its genetic, you imply that you were destined to have the same condition, and that is NEVER the case. Treat your body with some respect, and you'll know.

Dermatologists can't tell you any of this because they went to school to study medicine and know nothing more. Im sorry, but im sooooo sick of babies on the web saying THERE'S NO LINK BETWEEN ACNE AND DIET. This phrase came out of a really old study where they gave chocolate bars to one group, and sugar bars to another. These two were completely identical in carbs, protein, and the dangerous element "TABLE SUGAR". Both had the same glycemic index and well... there was no link. A quick google search will confirm that. But please, do yourself a favor and search for the journal article of the ACTUAL study and not someone simply stating "my doctor says there's no link between acne and diet"

And this isnt theory either. Scientific studies of today have linked acne with toxins, leaky gut, SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR ew, wheat, milk. etc. These are not signs that your body was genetically destined for acne, nor that there is something wrong with your body. You are simply feeding your body food that kill. If what I'm typing doesnt ring truth to you, then you are probably someone that is attached to the assumption that the food pyramid is more that garbage.

Dont assume you know anything, guys and gals, because the technology in which new information is added to the human knowledge database changes everyday. It could be that tomorrow we find acne comes from wearing clothes, who knows, but for now, the phrase "there is no link between acne ad diet" is old news replaced by new evidence and simply no longer true.

Im sorry Scooby-Doo. The kids in this blog were not ready for you. Its like traveling to the past and announcing the world is round. Of course your going to be ridiculed, as am I. But just in case, I hope someone reading this whose ego is not heavily threaten by my statement, has the courage to educate themselves in order to become a free thinker and break away from the social structures of the past. There is a whole food vs medicine revolution happening on the planet. The kind of thinking on this blog will either evolve or die.

ACNE IS NOT CAUSED BY DIET IT IS AN URBAN LEGEND. ASK YOUR DERMATOLOGIST. DONT GIVE PEOPLE BAD INFORMATION.

america lives off mcdonalds and kfc. if food was the source of acne, our entire nation would have puss-filled faces. i have tried "cleansing" my system, along with other diets and such. the only medication that gave me any results was accutane. i now have clear, beautiful skin. & eat pizza and fast food often :-)

please stop giving readers false information. thanks.

Learn about hollistic medicine people. Western practitioners have an overgrowing cashcrop that allows them to profit off useless "remedies."

I have suffered from acne for over 4 1/2 years and i have done everything but taken acutane. Acutane is a medication that will get rid of your acne but it is a little dangerous and your dermatologist will have to check your organs every month to make sure you are ok. Acutane dries your sweat glands causing you not to produce oils which gets trapped underneath your skin because the pore is clogged for some unknown reason(more research needed on why this happens). This oil pushes against your clogged pore cause inflammation also the oil turns into puss. I have also known about the dirty blood situation. If you have dirty blood it would be a good idea to visit your dermatologist to possibly take some tetracycline. After a last visit to a Dermatologist, he came from a big meeting were they divided acne into 4 categories. I don't remember the 4 exactly but 2 of them were basically due to dirty blood and another was to over production of oil thru the sweet glands. Either way i would visit a dermatologist, people do have their techniques they used back in the day possibly using sulfur as a drying agent but that's 1900 medication. Dermatologist went to school for our problems. Also i want to add that diet is important. If you eat greasy food or microwavable food you best believe your growing to break out. Also careful with restaurant food they to tend to throw fats in. It would be a good idea to eat a lot of green vegetable and fruits, chicken over steak, less carbs which turn into sugar, less sugar If you have real big acne which scars i would definably talk to a dermatologist about Acutane, if its moderate or little i would look into the tetracycline family (helps clean infections and for inflammation) .... I just found this site randomly and i summed up most of what i have read upon and found out thru some experience. I hope it helps but i would always consult a dermatologist.

How could dirty blood be the cause of acne when some of the fattest, unhealthiest people, have clear skin? And a person who eats a generally healthy diet and in shape, can break out?

Scooby doo.You are not a doctor and you don't have proper knowledge about acne vulgaris. I am not a doc. either but I am an acne sufferer.I had long term acne which started from my teens.I ave noticed from my personal experience that acne is exacerbated by the skin products.Whenever I follow a proper skin care regimen with a cleanser and a moisturizer that suits me even if I eat restaurant food,or eat late, indulge in an occassional pizza or chocolate or the tasty stuff my skin doesn't get affected. My skin always invariable gets flare ups if I put some brand of sunscreen...or cosmetic that doesn't suit my skin. While exercising, eating fruit and veggies everyday makes you feel good about taking care of yourself ...acne doesn't give a rat's behind about the number of pizza slices you eat sum times or weekend treats with your family. Acne is hormonal and hereditary. You don't have to eliminate the problem like it's some kind of cancer. You have to prevent it and maintain a simple skin care routine that suits your skin. You ll feel the calming effect on your skin with products that's right fr u.

Wow this thread has some of the least scientific ideas I've ever heard.
Firstly, Scooby Doo, the foods you eat and the condition of your bowels have almost NOTHING to with acne. Filthy blood is not a thing. Acne is caused by over-production of sebum (oil) by glands which blocks the pores of the skin, causing blackheads and whiteheads. The blocked pores are then infected by bacteria which cause spots. There are many pills or lotions which can cure acne so a trip to the dermatologist will help. The medicines treat the acne in a number of different ways, from solutions which stop the pores getting blocked, antibiotic solutions and pills which kill the bacteria that cause the infection, to accutane which reduces production of sebum to stop the pores getting blocked.

Also, the guest from a few posts up, you're as bad as scooby doo! Don't try and tell something to do something when you're talking about stuff you clearly have ZERO understanding of. Genetics are literally the root cause of everything in the human body. You do NOT 'give your body instructions on how to function by what you put in your mouth', and your body DEFINITELY doesn't change at the genetic level by what you eat!
Your example is one of the most flawed, least logical things I've ever read. For a start, your body was designed to eat meat, but thats irrelevant. Your example is a made up situation where you state that since X happens and Y happens, Y must be the cause! So do no vegetarians ever get acne? Well hey btw, I once saw an insurance company advert on TV and then went out and ran a mile faster than ever before, therefore watching insurance company adverts on TV obviously makes people run faster! I've made an incredible scientific discovery! All that research that scientists have spent years carrying out on improved exercise performance must be wrong!
Also, do you realise that our bodies run entirely on sugar? All other food we eat is converted into it. The phrase 'there is no link between acne and diet' is true, the scientific community doesn't decide something is true based on one study, numerous studies have confirmed it. Please tell me what 'scientific studies' you got your information from.
There is no 'food vs medicine' revolution happening on this planet. If you like to believe that you can solve all your problems with eating then please go ahead, don't trust modern medicine, try and cure your diseases by eating these magical foods you speak of and see how far you get. The medical revolution happening right now is gene therapy, but obviously you know better than science and our genes do nothing- I think you'd better inform the geneticists before they spend any more money on outdated research and tell them to invest it in your 'free-thinking'!
The worst thing is the way both of you present your misinformation as fact and as being more advanced than research that scientists have been studying for and carrying out most of their lives! Just because you read it on the internet!
