I had cortizone shot in back 12/27, 8 days later bled for 11 days. Talked to back Dr., went to GYN Dr. & Primary Dr. they all said it couldn't be from shot. In 2009, had cortizone shot in knee, same thing happened. Too coincedental for me. I'm not convinced & I'm way past menopause. Canceled second shot for back.

I am glad i found this web site. I had knee injection in January 2012. Since then i am experiencing vaginal bleeding and is not stopping. I been taking all type of test trying to find out what is wrong with me. I did not have idea that injection can cause other side effects. I cant take this anymore and if i knew it , i will never take that injection. Problem was, if i didnt, then i will not be able to walk at all. I am really loosing my mind.  A doctor gave me a shot to stop bleeding, and it stops for two days. Vaginal bleeding started again. How long this will take? I am so depress, rude, my left hand side, lower stomach close to hips hurts too. I cant sleep at night, i cant eat, i am in so much pain. Please help! How to stop this? How many shots i need to take to stop bleeding?

I am so glad i found this site. I have been in menopuse for @least 2 yrs now and had 2 injections 1 directly into the hip socket and another in the greater trochanter ( hip) and tonight notice I started to spot, I think the doctors should warn us of this side effect. I makes you panic. I'm glad other women have gone thru the same thing.

I had a cortisone shot on 6/7 for my knee and I started bleeding 9 days later.  Haven't had a period for 10 years.  It scared the heck out of me.  Started looking around on the internet for information on postmenopausal bleeding and I happened on this web site.  I have a doctors appt next week but I'm really hoping it's just a side effect from the cortisone shot.  The orthopedics office told me the shot was a combination of Kenalog and Dexamethasone along with some numbing medicine.  Has anyone else had this reaction from these medications?

I had three shot in my arms one in the left and two in the right. I had the first shot in march after my period. Then about three weeks the second shoot in the same arm and three wks again a third shoot in the left. But in april after the second shot I didn't get. A reg period. I started spotting on april 20 and as of the first wk in june I still was either bleeding like a normal period or spotting. Icalled reg doc says u can get bleeding & swelling of which I also got from these shots. My feet swelled so bad I was walking on the side of them instead of flat. The ortho doc was very non caring told me the shot left my body a long time ago and I should see my gyn. Well I am waiting for test right now and guess what I stop blEeding but some days I spot brown instead of red, I also still have to take test to out rule early premenopuse and other women things. But I just took pap in april and everthing was fine. These shots are the worse an th fda needs to look into it.

I had recently had a cortizone shot in my knee for torn cartlidge. I was doing fine for about a week, but now last night I started to bleed vaginally. I am not due for my period? Can the cortizone shot cause this vaginal bleeding?

I posted on this site earlier in yr. Ended up having 2 bouts of bleeding, the 2nd for over 2 weeks. Am post-menopausal and on estrogen, and cortisone causes a boost in hormones, thus causing bleeding (periods) in some women, and unusual bleeding in women still menstruating. I ended up having abdominal ultrasound, which was normal, but it sure scared me, because doc was using "C" word.
My gyno, internist and orthopedic didn't know anything about this, but there's plenty of anecdotal evidence that this happens. Dont' worry too much!

I had a cortisone shot for my shoulder ...8 weeks later I felt so tired and short of breath. I am 65 and haven't had a period for 20 yrs. I started bleeding in my abdomen , not vaginally and needed a transfusion ....got 2 pints of blood. Not one doctor or nurse would agree that the cortisone made me bleed. Never heard of any such thing, not unless steroid was taken orally.????

Hi----I'm Susan, and I'm getting bleeding a couple weeks after cortisone injection as well. However, I'm going to Dr. soon to be sure I don't have something more serious. Yes, this is upsetting. I'm with you!

I recently had a cortisone injection into my shoulder and having just finished my period one week earlier I was not advised about post bleeding. 6 days on from the injection and I started spotting the following day I had a full on period with cramping pains. My period usually only lasts about six days this one lasted for approx 16 days and who knows when my next one will be now. I am 34 and on advising my doctor of this he said it usually only happens to post menopausal women. I guess I got unlucky!

I am age 48 and I too recently had a cortisone injection into my shoulder. My period arrived 2 weeks early and I am now on day 18 bleeding. Thanks to all the women who posted this information. I was not informed by my doctor regarding a possibility of this.

Fascinating. Just out of interest I typed do cortisone steroids cause mid cycle bleeding and here I am with what sounds like an explanation as to why I am suddenly bleeding quite heavily 10 days after my last period finished and 9 days after a jab in my hip. Has anyone else had a swollen tongue, over salavation (just like when you think you are going to be sick?)and felt really sick too?

Weird things eh? none of these side effects was mentioned to me.

I am in uk

I posted on this subject several months ago, and you can be sure that the unusual bleeding was caused by the cortisone. Don't be surprised if the bleeding persists, stops, and then returns a week or two later. Cortisone is a hormone and can cause estrogen levels to increase; it's a very powerful drug. Many doctors don't know about this side effect, and it doesn't seem to be on the list of reactions. Crazy! I don't know about the other side effects you're having, but I believe anything is possible and you're not imagining it. Just don't get too worried, it will straighten itself out. I had the shot in my hip, also.

Everything everyone is saying on here is a mirror  image of whats going on with me. Does anyone when the bleeding will stop? Like does it run its course in a couple of months? Has anyone  thought of a class action suit against there doctor, who failed to tell them the side affects? How about a class action suit against the manufacturer, who supplies the doctors. Who will make these doctors accountable for their failure to divulge this information? I personally would have liked to have been informed, as to whether do I want my bursitis pain? or bleed constantly for months?
