I've posted twice on this site because I went through it, including an abdominal ultrasound, only to deduce that it was, in fact, caused by the cortsone shot (there was no other explanation). The manufacturer apparently doesn't recognize this problem, and neither do the doctors, and it's our job to report to our multiple doctors (OB/GYN's and orthopedists) that this is happening. The fact is, these drugs work, but we need to make sure these side effects are listed and explained to us. Why would you want the drug to be removed from the market, which is what often happens with class action suits?

I posted on this subject several months ago, and you can be sure that the unusual bleeding was caused by the cortisone. Don't be surprised if the bleeding persists, stops, and then returns a week or two later. Cortisone is a hormone and can cause estrogen levels to increase; it's a very powerful drug. Many doctors don't know about this side effect, and it doesn't seem to be on the list of reactions. Crazy! I don't know about the other side effects you're having, but I believe anything is possible and you're not imagining it. Just don't get too worried, it will straighten itself out. I had the shot in my hip, also.

That seems like a long time, so you should see your gyn. if you haven't already. Everyone is different. Hopefully it will taper off (if it hasn't already), and it may depend on how much estrogen you have in your system naturally (i.e., if you are still menstruating or are post- menopausal, etc.). I'm not a physician, just someone who experienced this problem and did research. Definitely report this to the doctor who gave you the shot, and also to your gynecologist. That's the only way the message will get back to the drug companies.

I had a cortisone injection in my hip in October and 2 weeks later started bleeding. I havent had a period in 8 years. Anyway I went to my doctor and now she is sending me for a ultrasound and going to do a biopsy to r/o endometrial cancer. Say a prayer that it is from the injection and nothing else.

I wouldn't stress a single bit...of course it because of the cortizone shot. If you have never had any other break through bleeding and then low and behold it happens after the shot--you can count on it being the shot.

Again, I absolutely agree that it's caused by the cortisone. If it makes you feel better, have the abdominal ultrasound, but DO NOT let them do a biopsy unless there is concrete evidence of a problem. I had an ultrasound and it was negative, and I never would have had one if I'd realized this possible side effect at the time. Most doctors are clueless when it comes to this, and they need to be educated by us, their patients!

I had my first cortisone shot on this Thursday and I have been cramppy ever since. I chalked it up to ovulation since it is mid cycle. Then I woke up this morning and I'm staining . I wiped and saw blood and was scared to death! I never had this. Then I read the posts and feel like the cortisone shot may be the cause. When I called back the orthopedic I think they thought I was crazy and the secretary said she never heard of this. I also put a call into my obgyn but didn't here back from dr yet. The gyno nurse. Did not think there was a connection but that seems like the normal response according to a lot of your testimonies . Thanks for everyone writing this , it helped to make ms think it was the shot then anything more serious . Please tell me you are real people and these are real stories!! Thanks

I have a herniated disc at L4/L5 and had a cortisone shot on oct 31. Then had vaginal bleedingmNov 9-19. Went to the gynecologist and had an endometrial biopsy. Still waiting for those results. Then had another injection yesterday (Dec 17). Bleeding started again last night. I had told my gynocologist I was having the steroid injection but she didn't say anything. I just notice in my discharge instructions it says one of the side effects of the injection can include Disruption of menstrual cycle. So I have calls in to doctors. I'm 60 and shouldn't have any menstrual bleeding!  So glad to know others have had this haEven too.

Post menopausal ladies who have had endometrial biopsy due to vaginal bleeding after taking cortisone shots - what was the outcome of the biopsy? I hope it came negative and everything is fine.

I am 2 years post menopausal and have never had problems with spotting or anything. I had two cortizone injections in my lower back a week ago, and now I have my period. I am going to the doctor, but I am freaked out!

What happened with the tests? Did you have a bioposy? I am in the same situation, The doctor say's if I don't stop by Friday I will have to have one. I am flowing like Niagra Falls! The only difference with me is I had already started my period and then I got the shot. It was my first period in 7 months as I am 55.

Unless it's a tremendous coincidence, it's got to be the cortisone shot. If you do anything, have your doctor order an abdominal ultrasound before you even consider a biopsy, which is invasive (and no fun). Then if the ultrasound shows something, go ahead with further tests. And try doing what I did: take a few pages of these testimonials for your doctor to read, highlighting the areas that point out the relationship between the cortisone shots and the bleeding. Many doctors don't know anything about this, and you would be educating your doctor at the same time you save yourself a lot of time, money, discomfort and worry!

I have arthritis and the pain in my knee was so bad that I went to my orthopedist to get an injection in the knee.  Later on I started spotting and was so alarmed I went to my gynecologist and they did a biopsy and a pap smear.  Everything was fine.  I mentioned that maybe it had to do with the cortizone shot I had been given a while ago and I was told that the cortizone shot had nothing to do with it.  If it happened again I was told to return.  It cleared up after a week.  Well, it has been a week since my last cortizone shot again, I am having the same symptoms.  I feel terrible, I am spotting and have pms.  No one told me before I had this shot the consequences that I could have. I wish my orthopedist would have told me of the side effects.  He is to do a knee replacement for me and now I am wondering if I should seek someone else.

I had an injection on the 5th of jan and just started spotting and feeling like i am going to get a period and i don't get periods anymore. I feel like i am pmsing, have tender breast and tired and sluggish. I told a friend of mine how terrible I was feeling and then realized that maybe it was the cortizone injection eventhough I thought it was crazy. i just got on the computer and started searching and found this site and I am shocked and upset to read what others are going through. I am glad to see that I wasn't thinking something crazy but I am upset that my doctor did not make me aware of this too.
