I have been post-menopausal for 15 years. Had a cortisone shot in late early June and 2 weeks later started bleeding. Of course I freaked out, got a quick appointment with my GP, then was sent to a gynocologist. Neither one asked if I had had a cortisone shot.
A few days later I wondered if the cortisone shot had anything to do with it...I had had the "hot flash" syndrome for a few days right after I received the shot where my face turned lobster red, periods of warmth like hot flashes, headaches and insomnia. So when I found this forum I thought I had found the answer. Went back to the ortho dr. (who is female, no less) and she insisted that she'd never heard of vaginal bleeding as a side effect, and was very dismissive. The medical community needs to do more studies, this is outrageous that so many medical personnel haven't compared notes and seen that there is definitely a correlation between cortisone and abnormal bleeding.
This sight eased my mind a lot, and having a GYNO that was very much aware of the problems that the cortisone caused was a god send. I still do not understand why all doctors are not aware of this side effect. My family doctor is positive that it was not caused by the cortisone. I just smile and nod. LOL Good luck with all your tests , mine were all ok just as my GYNO suspected'
I had a shot this morning in my shoulder and started to bleed vaginally this afternoon...haven't had a period since my hysterectomy around 10 yrs ago...how is this possible
I think you need to see a doctor soon if your bleeding, not sure how that is possible if you had a hysterectomy.
My obgyn agreed by phone when I suggested that spotting and bleeding may be the result of cortisone. I was about to panic and rush to the office before asking about the connection.
Your posts only help soothe. I'm dealing with enough given back and leg. No need to go up higher in a tisy. BTW I am almost 73, still taking HRT. It all goes together. Thanks all.
I have an underlying bleeding problem and if I had known that this would be a side effect, I wouldn't have gotten the shot for my shoulder. I would have requested more intensive PT instead.
I had injection on 819/14 - Started bleeding 9 days later. I went to Gyno and he gave me a sonogram and I had a D&C. Now I just went to get another shot on 11/20 - and started bleeding again 9 days later again! This is not a coincidence. Both Doctors said this didn't cause bleeding (the 1st time) but now I know this was the cause. No one gives us the possible side effects and say this is perfectly safe. I have been very emotional and feel as if I'm having a period. I am 59 years old and have been in menopause for 9 years. Very upset over this - I am going to have hip replacement next month and will never get this shot again. Who knows whatever other damage this has done to my body!
I had cortizone pressure point injections two weeks ago. I am 62 years old vaginal bleeding and urinating pink blood, I am a basket case. I have a appointment next tues one week, I could die by then. Lol
OMG! Thank God I found this post. I was thinking the worst,i have gone through menapause and I to had 3 shots on my back and 5 days later I started spotting and cramping. Now I can sleep in peace. :)
This same thing has now happened to me, except I got the shot in my knee!!!! I was trying to think of what I had done differently this month and was on the phone with a Friend and she said you had a cortisone shot in your knee and had told me that after a week of having rotor-cuff surgery she got her period again after not having it for 2 years!!!! Unbelievable you think they might tell you that this can happen or could be a side effect from the shot!!!!!
