Actually you might want to get your facts straight. Coumadin does thin the blood, which in turn makes blood clot formation less likely. If a persons INR is high then the blood is thinner than if it is low. Jose Vega M.D., Ph.D. quotes the following "Coumadin is an excellent medication for stroke prevention as a result of its potent blood thinning properties (i.e., it prevents the abnormal formation of blood clots in the body). Sounds like a blood thinner to me.

That is exactly what is going on with my husband. He is on Coumadin. He skips meals or eats really late and drinks what I see as a couple of 24 oz beers. Shortly after, he is stuttering, shaking and on the verge of a black out. I thought maybe he is drinking more and not telling me or maybe taking pills. I know he has a drinking problem...but I am wondering If maybe the Coumadin is making the effects of the alcohol more exaggerated. His INR levels are always good when he gets his blood tested.

Sue, I am in the same situation with my husband. I'm not sure if he is secretly drinking (as he has before) or if the Coumadin is in play here.  My husband had chemo a few years ago too.  I can't find anything on the internet besides the "don't drink too much" in regard to Coumadin. His INR fluctuates but it doesn't seem to correspond with alcohol use.

Have you found any information out there?
