Hi. 24 yo F and was diagnosed with myositis. I took ANA test and it showed that there are some antinuclear antibodies in my blood. My doc has told me that my immune system is more likely to fight my own tissue. Anyway, if ANAs are in my blood, this it mean that I have myositis? I friend told me about CPK test, should I take a shot with that one?
Hi. No, if ANAs are in your blood, it doesn`t have to mean that you have myositis. More tests are needed to confirm such a diagnosis. A creatine phosphokinase test is used to evaluate suspected myositis, if you have no other symptoms. The doctor will take your blood sample, and this procedure may be repeated (in order to have an accurate result). It`s a bit painful, that CPK test. Myositis patients may feel better or worse than their CPK levels show. Normal range of CPK level in the blood serum is 22-198 units per liter.
