This happened to me maybe 4 to 5 times already...I would wake up in the evening with some kind of a cramps pain- I can't really determine where the pain is coming from- if it is around the anus, or inside or between the anus and my testicles. It would take around 15 to 25 minutes before pain will go. The pain is like the anus muscles are so so tired of holding back my waste for a very long time, but pain is deeper. This does not happen when I am awake, only during sleep. I don't really know which doctor to consult and besides i don't know how to explain my problem.
Im a female but i have had similar pains and asked my doctor about them...i was told it was related to gas pains all though i never noticed feeling really gassy when the pains were occurring and I was awake never just in sleep. the pain would be striking like little jolts and I couldnt exactly tell where it was starting from but it shot up with so much pain it would make me stop and cringe.I dont know if it could be the same thing but hope it helps. My doctor didnt seem to think it was a big deal.
hi,
sounds similar to a problem I experience every now and again- the doctor called it Proctaglia Fugax (meaning fleeting pain). Trouble is it dont seem so fleeting when it happens! used to wake me from sleep- and occasionally experienced it during waking hours. Intense spasm type of pain. Aparantly there are no drugs/cure for it- as it comes and goes so quickly. i have read that a puff or 2 from a ventolin asthma inhaler helps......sitting and rolling on a tennis ball....anyway I normally pace the floor until it subsides. I havnt had it for several months although I have been experiencing other problems, ahem, down there!
Anyway- aparantly this is nothing to worry about, as painful as it is- and can be linked with irritable bowel syndrome- look it up and read up on it- hope this helps.

I read this on another post and it WORKED! "Yes, you can get the muscles in your cheeks tight and then they have to be released to get past the pain. Here is how you can release your muscles in your butt:
Lower Back, Lumbar:
While sitting place your hands behind your body just above the buttocks and press in on the muscles next to the spine and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your self forward as far as you can. Then release the pressure but hold your body there for another 30 seconds. Move a few inches down and do it again and keep repeating until you reach the end of your tailbone."
I have had this happen to me a few times a year for 8+ years. I get a strong cramp feeling between my vagina & my anys regin inside me about an inch or so. Im not sure whats even there to hurt but its very sharp pain where I cant even walk or stand or sit, nothing helps the pain it just slowly goes away on its own but by then its sore for the rest of the day.
This is also to remind myself in case this happens again. I DEFINITELY recommend warm/hot enemas. Especially if the pain last more than 20 mins. It's starts working as soon as the water enters the colon and when you....."evacuate" it.
Enemas aren't just for fun, they are a medical tool.

I just came to this thread having the pains, and there gone now, THANK YOU SO MUCH this is amazing
I had the same pain. You are not drinking enough water!! Simple solution. You are severely dehydrated
I'm SO "relieved" to have found this thread as I'm currently having this issue and haven't known how to explain it but like others have said, it ONLY happens when I'm asleep and I'll wake up from such sharp pains right at my anus.
Thanks for putting a name to this condition that I’ve been experiencing for a decade. 5-10 minutes or so of excruciating pain 1-2 times a year. This thread has made it easier to understand and live with.
Proctaglia Fugax described my symptoms perfectly. Thanks for giving it a name. For me it’s 5 to 10 minutes of excruciating pain once or twice a year. I had a doctor tell me it’s nothing to worry about, though it can be worrying when it happens
