Hi, few days ago I went to see a dentist. It is not that I have had any serious problems with my teeth; I just went on a regular checkup. The dentist made me another appointment. He said that he will have to perform a deep scaling. I just smiled and agreed to that. The thing is I have no idea what deep scaling is. How is it performed? Will I have some post procedural shocks? Need I be worried?
Hi, there is nothing to worry about. Deep scaling is quite harmless. It is a simple procedure done under a local anesthetic. The difference between the deep scaling and regular cleaning is that the deep scaling is done bellow the gum line. That is why it is much more affective. You might feel some soreness after the procedure. It will probably last a few days. Beside it, there are not any other complications or side affects that can follow the deep cleaning.
How often should you have the scaling done once you have been told you have peridontal disease?
