I was diagnosed with Polycystic ovarian syndrome for over two years
I have not seen my period for almost 3 months. I went to my Gynecologist who prescribed 7 Provera to be taken once daily along with 30 metformin-denk (500 mg) also to be taken once daily.
I started bleeding about nine hours after taking it the first day. This period lasted for 4 hours. After taking the pills the second day the bleeding restarted within 3hrs and haven't stopped up to now which is about 30hs.
Can you please tell me what is happening to me and should I continue taking these medications?
Your doctor gave you Provera to take for 7 days? I know one of Provera's uses is to induce menstruation, and it sounds like it has! Because you were diagnosed with PCOS or PCOD, he prescribed Metformin, which helps control blood sugar. Strange that you're only taking it for 30 days; it's usually prescribed as a maintenance drug, or at least until your blood sugar numbers can stabilize by eating right, exercising, and/or losing weight.

I don't know what to tell you about Provera, but you should find out from your doctor why you're taking the medications and what to expect, etc. PCOS can include symptoms like hair loss, and drugs that contain Progesterone (Depoprovera, Provera, etc.) can actually cause or exacerbate hair loss, and can also cause your hair to grow.....go figure, right?

I think it boils down to just being informed about the drugs your doctor is prescribing and why....?? If you want, update us as to what your other symptoms are etc., that might help a bit.

Hope that helps! :-)
