My horrible pain started back in the last week of Oct 2012.  I went to te ER had blood and urine work done.  I also had an X-ray, cat scan and and MRI.  Sent me home with some pepcid and codeine.  They found nothing!  I then went to my personal Dr. and he thought it was an ulcer.  I had a HIDA exam done in early Dec. to see if the gallbladder was ok.  It was working just fine.  I then had an endoscopy done first week in Jan.  Everything came back ok also on that!  I was frustrated!!!!  The pain was keeping me up at night and I was having a tough time at work.  Did not know what to do next.  I scheduled a appt with another GI Dr. at the end of Jan.  He ended up giving me protonix which is for acid reflux.  After the 3rd day of taking this stuff I felt the pain move to my left upper abdomen, and then an hour later move toward my navel.  It did not stop there, it then moved to my lower right ab and then it shot up toward my upper left back.  (all over the place that morning for about four hrs)  I think it was a really tough bubble that had finally moved!!!  All those tests and they could not find anything!!! WOW!!!  It has been 2 days now and life has changed again for the better!  Hang in there!  I feel your pain.  P.S.  Try charcoal pills or Metamucil

@David: I'm sorry to hear about your problems. If you look back through this thread, some people have had improvement with gluten-free diet (after 3-5 days), Magnesium (I do Natural Calm or Philip's Milk of Magnesia), and digestive enzymes (Now Foods Superenzyme). Good luck!

Anyone suffering from these symptoms who drinks a lot of tea or coffee could try stopping it altogether.

I discovered coffee caused this for me 25 years ago and stopped drinking it altogether. I went through every test imaginable and was finally diagnosed with IBS - but no treatment helped (in fact the pills they gave me made it worse) then I gave up coffee.

Recently, past 6 months or so I started back on coffee every day, I get bloating, acid stomach, pain in right side, constant belching, feeling that I have something the size of a melon in there which I can feel when I move about or bend over. It is hard to get to sleep at night because I feel I have to balance this lump in my side to stop it hurting.

I'm such a coffee addict I find it hard not to drink tons of the stuff now I'm back on it and have been living with the symptoms. I've had other health issues recently so time to stop the tea and coffee again.

If it is related to coffee/tea consumption you may be delighted to find it stops literally within a day or so after abstaining from it, or at the very least the symptoms may become much reduced.

I fully understand that this sort of pain could relate to gall bladder/liver pancreas etc - but it only takes a few days in my experience to see for yourself if it is related to consumption of tea or coffee.

Hello GiGi and I have been suffering with the same problem for over 4 years now. At first ever doc I went to they diagn. me wrong, so finally I went online and found my problem and SOD(sphincter oddi dysfunction) kept coming up. So when I went to a doc in MI and described to him my pain he said it sounds like I have sphincter oddi dysfunction but was unsure which type (sphincter oddi dysfunction come in 1 type I, II, III). I had every test yo can image and nothing was coming up, and in 2009 finally showed up on the MRI. The ducts finally showed some pressure. The down fall to sphincter oddi dysfunction is if you have to get a sphincterotomy (which means te doc will go in anput a small cut in the pancreatic duct and bililary duct) to reduce the pressure which is causing the spams there are only a hand full of hospital in the states who have a capability to do the surgery and there is a very high if a sphincterotomy is done you will fall into a pancreatic attack, in which this happen to me and I was in the hospital for over 3 weeks. So you may want to ask you doctor to test your SOD and sometime in most cases you may not shown any signs of you pancreatic blood elavated, so I had to push the issue with my doc and tell them I know I have SOD. So they just took a chance of doing the surgery even though my blood work was coming back normal. Lucky they did take that chance because I may not be tel my story to you right know or I would have beeneven worse off than I am today. Please do not get me wrong I am still in pain every day, there is not a day that goes by when I am not is pain. As a matter of fact I am on a daily dose of duilde (pain med) to control my pain and they are about to implant a pain pump in my ab to see if they get the pain under control. I hope this help and God Bless you!

Have your doctor check you pancrease!!!!, I am having the same pains and with upper rightquad pain. Every doc I went to keep telling the same thing (OH it IBD, GERD and etc.....) I knew I did not have any of the things they where tell me. I had my first pancreatic attack in 2007, and it was then the docs finally realized I had Pancreatis and sphincter oddi dysfunction III wich is very had to detect. However it sounds like you having problems with your pancreatis and none of the symtoms are showing up in you blood which is what's happenin to me, however they doctor now that I am having problem with my pancrease. It is very very frastrating but don't give up, because this disease is a very silent killer and will take yo under fast if you don't continue to fight with your doctor about your pain.

Hi all.

i lost my first post about this somehow i cant believe that. oh well. i shall try and rcall it best i can, and it was long.

recently i decided to go to a Traditional Chinese Medicine Dr. it had been suggested to me before a few time throughout this, by different ppl, but at that time i still had test and things to do yet and was hoping for a diagnosis.. of course i did not get one.

so i went tuesday of this week.

i have been taking percocet, baclofen, pariet, and sundry otc meds for a year and a half now.

after that first appt i havent had anything. none.

nor will i. im done with all that including western medicine at all.

what she did was take my pulse. and there are three pulses, within one, representing  liver kidney and heart.

from that, she could tell how they were functioning.

then she looked at my tongue, and from that could tell many many things.

she explained what they do, which is 5000 yrs old, is balance the body's energy, chi..

it is important to have good blood, good sleep and good circulation. this is all necessary for strong organs.. and it is what she is building up in me, as mine is weak as well as all over the place...

she said, 'you have almost cried three times since you came in here.'

lol. no one else would have seen that, as i did not cry.. but i knew the exact times she meant.

she told me many things. one of them is that i have too much fire. this is one of the body;s elements.

if it is out of balance, it can result in the things such as itch, rash, anger, inflammation, anxiety, infection etc

fire things.

mine is out of whack.

my circulation right now is jagged, she said..

and what she wants it to be is smooth.

this is what she calls a solid foundation from which everything else will follow. but this must be done first.

so that is what she is working on.

as it happened, while i was sitting there, my side acted up.. now, this was only supposed to be a consultation.. but turned into her saying ok lie down.. and she did acupuncture back and front..a bit of massage.. used a heatlamp and let me lie there for awhile.

i didnt know how much it wa all going to be but all i could think about was saying 'how much do you WANT!!' lol

i have spent hundreds on cabs and otc meds, scripts.. all kinds of things..

as most of you have..

and this was so worth it i cannot tell you.

she gave me tea, certain blend for this specific thing.. i tak it after food twice daily.

it is horrendously nasty.. frightening actually lol

but i know how to do it. this is not a tea in the sense of something you drink slowly.. you will want to boil the water, put in all the packets (there were 20 alltold - not much in each however) and dissolve it all.. in not more than half a cup as you will want to chug it down FAST.

dont taste it, hold your nose while doing this trust me

i have a toothbrush loaded and ready for after.. lol.. and  rinse like mad.. brush again, and then coat my tongue with straight lemon juice a couple times!

but it works. it aids the liver and gallbladder, it's bitterness helps it become strong.. and the circulation become smooth not jagged..

ive only had my 2nd appt, yesterday, and i am out for walks starting today. she said 'but not for half an hour.. just 10 min'  to start.

so i did that. also i am sleeping deeper. no sleep aids and ive used those for years.

that took a night or two to get used to but i am determined to get well.. and it came around pretty fast. so im ok with it now and can tell it has been a deeper sleep.

im also getting hungry properly and eating better things. before i would just eat because i should since half the time i wsnt able to.

so this is my journey.. it is just beginning and has give me ;ME' back.. my life my spirit.. i can remember.. my mind is not foggy and my vision is clearer.

that is just from the one appt.

i dont know what the second one has done yet but i am excited to continue and find out.. very time i go there i find out something amazing and as i reflect i think of other things too.

i implore all of you to go and see.

the way i found mine, i looked up Traditional Chinese Medicine in my city. .. and i prefer to have an authentic person from the culture rather than someone who learned it but isnt from the culture.

i wanted it to be real.

if googling it doesnt help then perhaps try calling chinese university or college in your area and asking if they know of any practitioners near.

but please you guys.

be done with the medication (she said it was killing me).. i felt at death's door and had given up hope....

i can only hope that all or some or even one of you goes to check this out.

if so please post the experience here :)

i am truly amazed.. grateful.. and looking forward to every day now.... i tell you that was impossible a week ago..

go see :)

I've had this same issue for several years (pressure, upper right abdomin). Years ago I felt it - did CT, ultrasound etc - all normal.

Then  I went on a fitness kick. I worked out regularly, ate a little better - but smaller portions. I lost about 20+ pounds... and the pressure went away.

I stopped working out - not sure why... gained about 20 pounds back, and now the pressure is back.  I have an ultrasound on Monday, and an elevated liver enzyme level (slightly). The doctor thinks its 'fatty liver', but who knows.

Nonetheless, I'm right back to where I started. About to start working out again and hope that it goes away.

I to have upper right gradual pain that has not been diagnosed. I've lost 120lbs.  It started out with just pain. Now I can't eat anything and now I'm allergic to everything!!! Things that I smell, touch and eat. I've been to several Dr.s  and have had several tests and they can't figure it out. I know somethings not right in there. They won't do a laperoscopy because they said they need to have a reason to open me up. I have abdominal itching and rashes. My throat closes up. It's not all up in my head. They tell me to take antidepressants and pain blockers but I refuse to cover up the real health issue at hand. '.ve went to Ann Arbor and that was a joke. My next resource is the Mayo Clinic. Any similar stories. I believe it is my liver.

I'm appalled with this post. This guest saying he/she doesn't think seeing a chiropractor or even getting advice is the height of stupidity and irresponsibility. I happen to know chiropractors actually cure things, whereas the majority of the medical industry drugs symptoms which causes many more problems.

Hi there.  I have been experiencing the same upper right abdominal pain, very sharp.  I have found this article and I think I have found my answer.  Go to Page 20 in the journal - Abdominal Cutaneous Nerve EntrapmentSyndrome (ACNES):
