Hello! I would like to learn something new. Given that only begins to study medicine interested me the next area. I wish to know what is the difference between purpura and petechiae? Are there some associations with pressure on the bruise? If someone knows I would like to hear that argument. Thanks for your reply of this theme.
Hello there,
Well, both of these conditions, purpura and petechiae, are caused by small amounts of bleeding under the skin's surface. They appear as red spots, eventually fading to blue and brown similar to the way the bruises fade.
Petachiae are tiny, pinpoint sized blotches that usually appear in clusters that resembles a rash and the color of petechiae doesn't fade away when pressure is applied to the skin. On the other hand purpura are blotches similar to petechiae but larger, and it is the same as with petechiae when it comes to the color of purpura which don't fade when pressure is applied to the skin.
I hope that this satisfies your curiosity and that was helpful. Good luck with studying.
It is difficult to differentiate between the Petechiae and Purpura, whether the tiny Red spots arising on the Skin are due to the Petechiae or Purpura. The diameter of Petechiae spots in maximum 3mm in size while the Purpura rashes are larger in size. The diameter of the Purpura rashes is about 5mm.
A bigger spot than the Purpura is known as the Bruise or Ecchymosis.
