I am so sorry to read all the pain everyone is going through! I had one hemorrhoid banded today (the dr will only do one at a time)...after the initial banding I hurt so bad I could not sit up and started crying. He calmed me down and told me he needed to lower the band a little. The doctor told me that if some MUSCLE is pinched instead of just tissue it is very painful. It make me wonder how people who are put to sleep can KNOW that it has some muscle. He adjusted it and all I have had is a tiny bit of pressure this afternoon. I have also already had a bath and a bowel movement.  Hoping the rest of this experience is pleasant.

Ive just had banding done and I'm in so much pain. Lots of pressure and pain dragging from lower back down to my ankles. I wasn't given any advise leaflets so dosed up on over the counter pain killers. I wish I had known how much pain I'd be in, as I doubt I would have gone through with it. I was just told I'd probably experience a little discomfort. :(

Agree all that precedes this; its a nightmare! If your thinking of having it done or some smooth talking surgeon is gently nursing you down this path ask him if he has had it done he's probably related to Dr Zell from the film Marathon Man! I am not sure exactly how many have been banded if that's the polite word for this hell I have been in for the past several days the whole works which route one takes is screwed up. Try the xxxl pampers!

Well I went into today to get banned....I was very glad because I am going to the police academy in a month. The Dr said I also had to have a colonosocopy so I agreed. The dr told me creams did not work and banding was the best procedure. Well I got all done, ready to go home, asked for directions for my banding and they said it was not done that the dr said I never consented to such a procedure and that they would not do it. When he was done with the colono. he went to talk to my mom and told her my grade 2 hemorrhoids could use cream and that banding was very dangerous. We realized that they were in a hurry to goto lunch and made a mistake but after reading this site, I am not doing it tho I am filing a complaint. No reason at all for a 29 year old to have a colon. My insurance com. will find out as well. I am sorry for everyone's pain but guess I am glad my dr screwed up tho that liquid prep was torture in itself.

Sorry to hear thow many of you have suffered so badly.  I think I was extremely lucky.  I had two done around a month ago and apart from a dull ache later that day I had no problems at all (including not needing any meds).  I think I may have one more to do but reading everyone's experiences here I may just count my blessings and leave well alone.

I knew all the people that did my surgery at the hospital. I think it has gone well and they gave me good instruction. I had 3 large hemorrhoids banded.

I was instructed to take:

Metamucil at least once a day
2 non laxative colace (100mg) a day unless i have diarrhea
Vicodin every 4 hrs
- take all medicine with at least 10oz. of water
eat high fiber foods such as applesauce, prunes, plums, peaches, oranges, strawberries, watermelon, carrots, apples, etc.
stay away from greasy foods like meats, fast food, butter, etc.
stay away from high starch foods like rice, corn, potatoes, bread etc.
When sitting or if I have additional pain I'm to use an ice pad NOT a heating pad
sitz baths at least 4 times a day and after bm's and more if I felt I needed to

I also haven't eaten any meat, I've been replacing my meal w slim fast which is high in fiber and protein and has lots of vitamins and minerals. I haven't done a sitz bath yet. . And if there is ANY bleeding or I'm in too much pain, I am suppose to contact my doctor immediately! If you have a good doctor that knows you well then your recovery will be a breeze wbanding over cutting! Just had surgery about 30 hrs ago so I haven't had the joy of a bm yet lol. But I'm in less pain now than I was with a flare up I had a month ago b4 surgery.
I've found that using a maxi pad between my cheeks not only lets the area breathe and stay dry but it helps relieve pressure when sitting or laying down. Fiber, rest, no lifting, no excessive sitting or standing, lots of water and fluids. I get up to pee every 1-3 hrs. My pee is nearly clear that's how you know you are drinking enough btw. I have been leaning forward a lil too when I pee so it doesn't fall back and burn the affected area. I seen a tip in another post about squatting when having a BM kind of like eastern/asian countries do when there's a squatty potty. It is suppose to help naturally take the pressure off your anus to easily, wo strainning, have a bm. Someone mentioned to Google it if you need further instruction. Obviously this may be a lil more difficult for a shorter person on a western toilet (I'm 5'1''), tho when I had to use a squatty potty I couldn't squat that low and relax enuf to go. So I'm sure it will help me now some how. Sorry this has all been graphic but I know it will help someone.

Good Luck and get well soon!

I am now on my 3rd bout of banding in 6months due to the severity of them I am afraid you can't make omelette without breaking eggs and can't fix problem like heamorroids without some discomfort first 2 times went back to work within a day and I am yes you guest iti am a bus driver on my 3rd and hopefully last time i had the usual symptoms bad stomach pain fear of 1st bowel movement and that horrible pain that always seems to come with this procedure the feeling of severe dull pain at base of spine but I adopt the philosophy no pain no gain and fingers crossed the end of being governed by these annoying and excrutiatingly painful things that only those who suffer it can appreciate

I had my banding done 6 days ago for 2 roids. Since then I haven't been able to sleep. Taking Tylenol3 and it only helps when I take it w ibuprofen. But I can't take it anymore because Im bleeding so badly today. It's like I'm urinating blood out of my back end. In so much pain don't know what to do.

Sorry you're having problems. If you have diverticular problems, fibre will increase the problem. Try stool softeners up to 4 at bedtime. Warm drinks will help and softer fibre (cooked) vegetables and fruit. Beef is particularly hard to digest. Beans, rice etc are very heavy and gassy for the bowel. Relax your body with deep breathing and resting. Had a colonoscopy and banding yesterday and my first bowel movement this morning with no pain. Start your research about allergies around food and gentle fibre for people like us. Talk to nurse or doctor about bleeding immediately!!!!. Good luck!

had 2 done this afternoon during a colonoscopy. Didn't expect the discomfort. 12 hours later, I feel my bottom is falling out. She didn't tell me it would be sore but apparently they will fall off/out in a week... but must take laxatives to help. Will it get better??? Pain killers can make you constiptated...
