I've just completed 3 of 6 banding sessions all done at a Hospital. They are permitted only 2 bands per session. Quite painful during procedure but so far no pain or discomfort after a few hours! Everyone is different & afterward effects worse for some!
I had 2 hemorrhoids banded a few weeks apart. My doctor said he would only treat 1 at a time. With the first one I had minor cramping for a couple of hours. No worse than that time of the month. The 2nd one didn't hurt at all. Going to have my 3rd treated soon. It was done in the office, not the hospital and I didn't have to fast or anything. After each banding I was told not to exercise for 24 hours. Which was no problem. Any excuse to skip the gym! I had done a little research and this thread definitely had me freaking out. But I'm glad I got treated.
I had a hemorrhoid band on Thursday. It's now Sunday, still painful. Bands are following off, but I can tell you, it's not as "easy" as they make it sound. It was extremely painful and gravity is not a friend. The experts say to "resume normal activity the next day"?????? What?????? I couldn't even get out of bed. I have had 2 kids so I have experienced pain before. This was BAD.
All I can say is that if I knew then what I know now . . .
I was given Tramidol for pain. That was a joke. Over the counter Ibuprofen works better. My instructions were for 0 straining during a BM. Really? Is that even possible considering that I'm swollen? Obviously, all the doctors giving out these apathetic instructions have never had this type of procedure themselves.
I understand that everyone's situation is different, but I truly believe that if the doctors told the truth about the after-effects, no one would want to have the procedure done. I know I wouldn't have. At this point, I don't even know if it will be successful. Live and learn, I guess.
Oh, and the fact that I woke up before the doctor even finished the banding . . . ya, not good. The response??? "I've only got 2 left." Oh ya?? Thanks for that doc.
Thanks for letting me vent.
feel a lot better now after reading this you should be on the stage
I was due to have this procedure done last Friday, but after reading these posts and other information on the subject I decided to cancel my appointment and try something else. I did a great deal of research into it first, and in a moment i will tell you what I am doing....but first i will tell you about my particular case.
I have no pain at all, but i do suffer with bleeding, after a bowel movement - not every time, but a fair bit. More worryingly I have bled when not visiting the bathroom - and not just a little!! This is what prompted me to visit the doctor - as I was afraid it could be somehting more sinister!! Anyway doctor confirmed it was haemarroids - internal medium grade - 3 of them - and booked me in for banding. So after reading about it, my course of action is now this.....
Every morning before breakfast i am taking:
bio cucurmin - a strong natural anti-inflammatory and anti-oxident.
Horse chestnut - to strenghten, tone and protect blood vessels
Butchers Broom - used as a vaso-constrictor
Bilberry extract -helps circulation and another powerful anti-oxident
Good pro-biotics
My breakfast is porridge with flaxseed - valuable fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and protein; and psylium husk - for good intestinal health -used to relieve constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and diarrhea.
Results so far - i have been doing this for 2 weeks, and so far have had NO bleeding at all!! its still early days, but I think its well worth a try- rather than going through all that pain and discomfort for something that may not work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had one done yesterday. My doctor will only do 1 at a time per every 3 weeks -probably because he's done thousands and knows it is better to minimize trauma and make BM's easier during recovery. I asked to do all 3 and he said no, be patient, it is for the best. That being said, my experience was pretty easy, took all of 5 minutes in the office. I left at 10:00 AM and felt like I had to take a BM (they told me I would feel like this) until I finally did at usual time about 5:30-6:00 that night. I did see some blood on stool, but no band yet. Had feeling similar to cramp in abdomen area but not too bad and felt a feeling like getting over a minor groin pull. This morning I woke with almost no perceivable pain or pressure like the day before. BM was regular this morning as well with no blood.
Looking forward to getting the other 2 done but will have to wait 3 weeks until next one and 3 weeks after that for last one. All in all not a bad experience if my itchiness and raw butt goes away in the end.
i had 2 banded yesterday. it's 406 am right now and I just got thru crying. this is the most intesnse pressure/pain I've ever had to endure. My father had the same procedure done and said that its gonna be painful but you just have to stick it out. I took some percocet for the pain but I think that had constipated me and now It feels like there is s a brick in my ass that wont come out. This is sooooooo painful! I hope there is relief soon.. I don't know how much longer I can take this. ouuuuuuch! never again!!!
I previusly had sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy with sedation but as I had other things wrong up there I had a GA. I had 2 haemorrhoids banded together with a polypectomy and a excision of large skin tag (caused by a previous large haemorrhoid), I had a general anaesthetic for these procedures and had packing inserted. This was 2 and a half weeks ago. The pain I have experienced can only be likened to giving birth to a small child every morning! That is once I was able to open my bowels again, which did not happen until day 5 after the operation. I went to see my GP who advised me to stop taking the Co-Codamol and Tramadol I had been prescribed as these can cause constipation and suggested plain good old paracemtaol to be taking at intervals with Ibuprofen. She also prescribed a numbing cream with a steroid in.
My attempts to open my bowels have caused near syncope, sweating and I am ashamed to say screams and tears.
16 days later I am back at work, I went back last week and was told by my colleagues (doctors incidently) that I looked like the living dead! I worked the minimum I was able to and have had a diet of only fruit veg and soup but still the stools are very hard despite the fybogel and lactulose.
I now sem to have a new lump forming, which feels similar to the haemorrhoid I had removed when it was at its very worst years ago in 3 pregnancies! I darent try to push it back in as the scarring and pain is too intense. I agree to the hot baths creating relief - I must have had 3 a day!
In short, total agony and if this had failed or created a new one, it can stay - I would never have this done again.
I want to have this procedure is it worth the pain.I have bad hemorrhoids for 30 yrs.
I had three bands put on Friday. Saturday wasn't too bad but Sundayad a lot of pain and sitz baths didn't help much. I don't have a lot of control of my bowels and urinating starts and stops. All stools have been soft and hurt. I was never informed of any post op things such as pain or what to eat and no meds. I would not have this done again. I sneeze a lot and any sneeze or cough is very painful.
Went to work Monday , left after an hour and came home to sit in the tub. I have no desire to eat because I don't want the stool that comes with it.
six weeks into this regime......still not a spot of bleeding !!!!!!
Update on the above. 4 weeks post op, and 2 visits to the GP I have been forced to go back to see my consultant. He was astonished I had managed 4 weeks and said he would have been back after 2! The muscle is in complete spasm making defecation total agony, it has prolapsed and hence all the pain. My only option - Botox into the muscle to relax it. Hopefully this should sort my problems out once and for all.
ha ha ha altho it hurts to laugh,u hit the nail on the rectum, its dam near killing me,thank i needed to lift my spirits in this truth
