Dilaudid used in an intrathecal infusion pump.

The only side effect I experienced was severe pruritis (itching) from head to toe. Antihistamines did not work for me, so my medicine was changed to fentanyl. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I've had an intrathecal pump for scolios for 4 years. I started out with morphine but was switched over to hydromorphone because the morphine was no longer helping with the pain. Today the med was increased to 3.2 mg. every 24 hours. I no longer have pain but I am sweating profusely.

I have Prialt in my pain pump for almost two years. Works great! Definitely worth asking doctor about.

Dilaudid is great, although a necessary evil as are all wetern pain meds. I've suffered from 30 + inflictions of Idiopathic Chronic Pancreatitis over the last 8 years. Fasting (Dry) and pain relief was all the Dr.s' could do for me. Sometimes it was so bad that they even had to give me Ketamine at first to settle me down. Morphine wouldn't even touch the pain. My mind is so powerful and naturally seeks clarity that during an invasive scope procedure, the enethitist had to put me way under because when the GI Specialist was asking me Q's, my mind was fighting so hard to get threw the meds., I was able to hear and answer the questions, they were shocked! On another occasion I remember being at U. Of M. hospital in Ann Arbor MI. A nurse walked in and at shift change & asked the outgoing nurse, "What Cowboy is on this cocktail?" Haha, that's how painful Pancreatitis is it's like you have a red hot brick just behind your sternum and it's trying to melt it's way out of your back! The worst, most painful and similar thing a man can experience next to childbirth. So I was told. I even asked for a epidural, & 2 be put into a medical coma using Ketamine. A few X's. The problem is when you are so well educated and well versed, no matter what you've been through or how many times you've been through it, when you ask for something like that they have a tendency to label you as drug seeking,.. Hardly. Extremely well tuned to my own body and very well educated, yes. Certainly not drug seeking I took myself off all the medication; 75mcs of Fentanyl patches every 24hrs. and 30mgs. Oxycontin 4x daily, large doses of both,... Extremely large, on my own. I've also managed the desiese by using natural methods, & by checking my own urine for total Alkalinity (pool test strips). I have recently beaten the Infliction, so no more Pancreatitis, and no more Pharmaca'. Now it's time to force new neurological connections between the left and right hemispheres of my brain. You lose those; as well as other things, along with your natural hormone levels after being on such high doses of medication for so long. I was subconsciously aware of my state, but consciously unaware of it. I was truly in a type of medical induced coma, due to the side effects of long term opiate dependency. You will have to go thru a long process. if you are sensitive to any narcotic be prepared for this. It depends on your body if you are able to handle the medication or not. Just to let you know that the Dilaudid is a severly strong medication and it is on of the best as they say so be prepared.

Hi I too have been thru a hellacious life & on top now I'm having to be treated so badly by these so called Pain Clinics becouse of all the fakers & opoid overwriting by Dr.'s that once again have the nerve to turn around & treat us all like that. Well anyways I had a few q's for you it's very hard to talk to anyone couse they just can't understand it, ya know. I'm sure you do. This has been over 30 years for me starting at age 12 & then having quakes as surgons  once of the 3 major lamectomy's at all levels of the spine but my last one was just low back(4 levels only) hardware/cages exactly more and more damage to my poor nerves if they even exist. Right now when I lay especialyy which I do alot of it feels like big snakes are trying to come out of my legs. its horrible.  Anyways please respond and I hope you are having a good day today, signed Cronic Pain suffere of 30 YES over 3 decades of being a guinea pig. please HELP!

 

I just had my morphine infusion pump trial. was extremely light headed all day. 5 hours later, I was vomiting for he next 8 hours. couldn't eat or drink. is this normal? should I go forward with the surgery? really need answers. thanks. bw

Hi, I've had an intrathecal pump for 20 years it has Duladid and other cocktails in it. I was wondering how many milligrams of Duladid do you get per day in your pump? Mine was set a 13mg per day but my doctor has just discovered OLD guidelines and is reducing it to 4mg per day don't know if I can live this way.

Yes I know exactly what you are in for i have had a pump with dilaudid in it for 22 years.
The dilaudid makes me thirsty all the time. I always have a bottle of water with me. It also make me very constipated. I use plenty of Miralax in the water to keep things moving. If i miss the Miralax it is absolutely awful. I get lots of head aches sometimes they are so bad I have to go to bed. Don't feel pain when asleep. It's not an easy life at all. I would be glad to talk to you but I dont know how to reveal my contact information with risking my privacy.

Are you on 5 ML a day or 5 MG a day? The pump only holds 40 ML

I have been on a medtronics pump over 5 years. I was up to 3.0 ML a day but it was not working very well, spend most of time in recliner. Previous doctor also prescribed oxycodone daily and it helped a lot. Where I live now doctor will not add oxy. Six weeks ago he started new doctor weening me off the dilaudid its so bad I feel like I am dying. In another week he wants to start me back on the Dilaudid. Doctors do not listen
