Hi B, I replied to you a few days ago but it never appeared so I'll try again. Your libido issue is not got to do with your age. Back in September I was 95% back to normal before I got cut off a bit again. You still haven't made a full recovery yet. You'll know when your there when you start to think about sex all day long, get really sexually excited and down below gets a mind of its own. What you're describing is that you're still about 80% there like I am too, even nearly a year after I accidentally ate whey a couple of times. I'm gonna donate soon and try B vitamin and folic acid like Adrian was sayin, keep us informed on progress, chat u later

Hello Mmm. I recently bought B Complex Liquid Vitamin because I heard that it helps with this condition like Adrian said. I've been taking it for almost 2 weeks now (1 spoon full a day in the morning) and I haven't seen any signs of improvement. I still have no libido and I still feel emotionally numb. How long does it take until I recover? Should I have bought the pill instead? I heard liquid is better because It goes right to the blood stream.

I've been taking Whey Protein Isolate (Now Sports brand) for about a year, 2-3 times a week after working out and I have also been gradually experiencing lower libido and not being able to achieve full erections.  For the first 6 months I was also taking saw palmetto, so I figured that was what caused my problems.  For the past 6 months I've been taking only the whey protein, and although my general ED problems have gotten a little better, I still can't achieve a full erection.  My question is what would be a good alternative to take for protein after my workouts?

Hi Under, I haven't tried vitamin B yet but I don't think recovering is as simple as taking vitamin B. if you've been taking whey for a long time your body will remember it when u eat processed food with it in it and could knock u off again but hopefully vitamin B will help. When I nearly made a full recovery I took nothing only normal food and avoided whey in processed food but it does take ages, it's a real pain in the ass. It's scary but it could take you up to a year to recover. The first time I recovered it took 2 years and longer the second time but I don't know if I may have been eating whey in processed food between that. It all depends too on how long u were eating whey from when u get low libido reaction, the quicker u realise and stop the shorter recovery time. The best thing u can do is avoid whey powder in all food, certain chocolate, custard powder, hot chocolate, analog cheese in pizza etc cause it may react with you again, try donating blood too I think it helps. Hopefully soon you'll notice your libido improving but it doesn't bounce back overnight it s usually a gradual increase over time

Hey M, thanks for your reply. Wait, so If I ate certain products with the whey in it that it could have the same reaction on my body if I eat it again? I used to put whey in my coffee in the morning. So, your saying if I drink coffee even without whey my body will recognize it and my libido will shut down again? I hope that's not the case because I need my coffee in the morning. I'm actually 17 years old. I started drinking whey when I was 15 and this happened when I was 16. Maybe I'm a little young to take whey protein? I gotta ask you though. A lot of people on this forum say that there libido got lower and lower. Well, for me I just randomly woke one day when I was 16 and I felt completely different. Idk its weird. What do you think?

Hey M, I'm starting to think all of this has to do with the massive amounts of excitotoxins that seem to flood the brain/body when taking whey protein shakes. Basically the glutamine gets converted to glutamate within the brain neurons, specifically the hypothalamous. Since the glutamate is an excitotoxin, it excites the neurons so much that they become exhausted and eventually die. When this happens there are side effects because the hypothalamous controls many important things, the most important is the pituitary gland. Sex drive is just one of the side effects of this. This makes sense to me, because the first week I started taking Whey protein, it had tremendous positive effects when I went to the gym. I worked out harder than ever, and I also played my best games of basketball. I also had a runners high like no other. Unfortunatley I think this buzz that I was getting, was basically my neurons becoming over-stimulated and then eventually dying. This is why this only lasted a week or so, and I've never really felt the same since. Whey protein shakes fried my neurons I believe is what has caused all kinds of problems since. I believe in order to recover, we need to stay away from all kinds of excitotoxins, not just whey protein. Excitotoxins are in almost everything that is fast or processed artificial sweeteners and especially soy sauces and msg. So stay as far away from these as you can, and replace these toxins with antioxidents. Things like berries and whole-foods. This way our body can hopefully detoxify itself of these nasty excitotoxins.

Hello B. Are you serious? Wow, this is honestly becoming too much. There's so many theories its insane. So I literally have to avoid everything that's sweet? So, I can't have chocolate or anything?

Hi B and Under, under you just need to avoid food that has whey powder in it, avoid it like the plague, so you can have your coffee!! B that is a good theory but I don't think it's excitotoxins either, when I make it to 95% recovery last year I was eating food with excitotoxins in it. I ate Chinese food a few times which is full of MSG, also any food with yeast extract, herb extract or anything with extract in the ingredients is a hidden form of MSG and I was eating it although it is a good idea to avoid it, are you going to try vitamin B??

No I never said you can't have anything sweet. Dark chocoltate would actually be good because it has antioxidants.

There is a lot of information on excitotoxins, too much for me to really explain here, but when you have the time do some research on excitotoxins and how whey protein increases glutamate in the brain which can cause these side effects that we have all been feeling.

No I haven't tried vitamin B, but I think I will.

You might be right, it might not be the excitotoxins or other inflammatory foods that are keeping me/us from recoverying faster, but I do notice that when I eat foods with a decent amount of soy sauce for foods that have known msg, my symptoms seem to worsen. The worst thing that can come from avoiding that c**p anyway, is better health so it's probably smart to avoid it anyway.

I think B vitamins have been known to have a neutralizing effects on excitotoxins and protect the brain from them, which might explain why people are having success with them. So avoiding excitotoxins and eating antioxidants while taking brain protecting vitamins and herbs is probably a smart strategy for this.

To B and M. I just want to thank you guys for trying to help me out in this situation. I really appreciate the information you given me so far. If this thing is really curable. I literally think that I'm going to cry with joy because this condition has been making my life a living hell and I thought it was permanent because its been going on for over a year... There's also other symptoms I got besides no libido and emotional numbness. I also had gotten muscle spasms all throughout my body which literally lasted for about a year. It stopped recently. Did you guys get this? Another symptom that I am getting is heat in my body that happens randomly. And the last symptom that I have is (this may sound a little wierd) I feel as if my mind is blank. I literally feel like its difficult for me to think. Idk its kind of hard to explain.

Did you guys get these symtoms as well? Please Reply Soon. Thanks.

Everybody I think reacts to this differently. I remember when I was taking massive amounts of whey protein, when I would go out at night, I would get extremely cold. It was chilly, but I felt like it was 20 degrees outside when really it was about 50-60 degrees. Before I took whey protein, I never had this happen. Since I've stopped taking whey, I don't have this problem anymore. From the little research that I did, the hypothalamus actually regulates temperature in the body, if the hypothalamus becomes damaged from whey, this might explain why this happened. There are a bunch of other side effects that I've had too, especially the numbness and of course libido and impotence issues. Other issues are I don't really get exited like I used to, and before I took whey, when I would sprint during a workout, afterward I would get a feeling of almost bliss from all the endorphins/hgh released. Now I don't get that, I actually kind of just get a headache. The hypothalamus actually is key in the regulation of hgh, which might explain this also. So after stopping whey, some of the side effects aren't there anymore, and some of them are better, but definatley not 100% better. More like 60% better, but some days are almost 90%, so I'm trying to figure out why that is. But M is right in that you should stay away from whey protein. I think to have an even more aggressive response is to avoid excitotoxins because I think they can do the same things to the brain that whey protein does, but in smaller doses. When was the last time you had a whey protein shake?

The last time I took a whey protein shake was almost 2 years ago. However, at the same time I was using whey. I was also eating frozen yogurt which contained whey protein in it months after I quit whey. When I found whey was one of the ingredients I stopped eating that yogurt. The last time I had it was probably about 3 months ago. How long does it take for us to heal? I haven't seen any signs of improvement yet. And when you said that you feel "numbness" are you talking about physical numbness or emotional numbness? Literally for over a year I haven't been able to feel any emotions. It honestly sucks. At first I thought I was depressed, but after reading this forum I'm pretty sure that this was the cause of it. And I also have another question. I asked this before but I nobody answered it. People say that there libido got lower each day. Well for me, my libido crashed in one day. I was litterally fine one day, and than the next day I wake up and I simply wasen't interested in girls/woman anymore along with no morning erection and no sensitivity in the my penis (not trying to get personal). I literally get no pleasure from masturbation anymore. And this was months after I stopped taking whey (besides the yogurt that had whey in it)

So, how long does it take before we feel better? An what do you think about my libido crashing one day without it getting lower and lower like most people do?

Hello Under. Before about 9 months i took 3 scoops in one week and my libido crashed as you say in a day i had bad impotence for one week, loss of penis sensitivity, low sperm count , loss of ejaculate force (i couldn't throw it like i use to) and ejaculation anhedonia ( this is when you have orgasm and don't feel anything, very bad thing, very scary) anyway it took me 35-40 days to be completely normal again 100%. But like an id**t i did the same mistake again before 5 months i took only       -->1/4 of a scoop<--    to see what happens and this seems to be THE MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. 5 months since then i steel have problem. Fortunately i have seen some improvments but i am far faaarrrr way from my 100%. At my best days i am about 60% (and my best days are few). Some new symptoms i have after the last time i took whey are pain in my groin area and on my right testicle and also watery semen. Other than sexual symptoms i also have numbness in my hands sometimes, my acid reflex is much worst than before ( i always have it but now its worst). Of course depression as a result of all this.

After all that search i saw steroid users makes a big deal if their libido doesn't return a month after the cycle and i thing that i destroy mine with 1/4 scoop whey...

Does anyone believe that something like PCT steroid users do after the cycle would help us too?

The numbness that I had seemed to be physical and emotional. More physical at the start, but now almost more emotional as of now. When I was taking lots of whey protein, physical sensations were almost smothered, I didn't get much feeling from eating or sex, while emotional emotions were almost heightened for some reason. Now after not taking whey protein anymore, it seems kind of like the opposite. I seem to have some of my physical sensations back, but my emotions seems more numb. I don't get exicted anymore, I don't really have the desire to eat as much or chase after girl as much, yet my physical feelings of eating and women are about 70% better, I just don't really have the desire for them, if that makes sense. I first started taking whey protein I think in fall 2010. There was heavy usage in October and November, but then I started seeing side effects and first I thought it was the coconut oil I was taking at the same time, but then eventually came to the conclusion that it was the whey that was doing this. So I completely stopped injesting shakes in January 2012. I did consume food with whey in it off and on since then though. I got to be honest, I've seen some improvements but it seems like I'm missing this one thing that I don't know what it is. It's like my body has never been healthier, but it's missing something. I'm almost convinced the whey protein did a lot of damage to my hypothalamus, I'm just trying to figure out how to repair it, if it even can be repaired. In the meantime, I avoid Whey protein.
