I'm a 40-year-old grandma who wishes Suboxone had been around when my kids were growing up! Now that I've been on it for approximately a year, I DO NOT want to quit. I was lucky enough to qualify for the manufacturer to pay for it for a year for me, which will be up in August. For 17 years, I was so addicted to opiates that I could not quit, no matter how many rehabs, meetings, detoxes, etc., I went to. Suboxone has allowed me to have a life, finally. I even wrote a book and got a Master's Degree. I've been diagnosed with a possible terminal illness, and have chosen to live in pain instead of taking opiates because I don't want to become addicted again. However, my doctor wants to take me off the Suboxone just because my year is up. I am TERRIFIED of quitting it. Why stop the only thing that has helped me in 17 years of serious addiction? Does anyone know of a doctor who will keep me on it? Can I apply for the manufacturer to pay for another year? I am desperate and mortified at the repercussions of quitting this medication. -- Kerri
Hi honey! you ARE addicted to this and I TOTALLY get your worries for this ending - as it did with me! Due to your illness your doctor will NOT let you be in pain, you can be on Fentanyl etc, which is a VERY good pain medication! What did you mean with "possible terminal illness" ? Suboxone - as is Methadone - is VERY addictive! So you need to realize that you are now addicted to this! This does NOT mean that you will be taken off everything! You just need to be honest with the your doctor! Honesty is key, I KNOW first hand about that and I promise you IF you aren't honest and he takes you off evrything you WILL be in a bad way! Let me know if I can give you any advice etc, OK? As I've been through that hell! So hugs to you and know this CAN and WILL get better!
