This site is very helpful. I woke up Monday with severe pain to the upper right quadrant . continuous pain for 3 days . then it relived itself. When I ate something. It returned in full force. I refused to eat for the next 2 days. I felt great. I had had a ultrasound that revealed chronic inflammation of the gallbladder and a fatty liver. No Stones. They suggested taking it out. I refused because there were no stones. That's when the pain returned ans I refused to eat. They gave me a HIDA scan and found my gallbladder at 19.9% and said I should take it out. I refused because i have scar tissue fro a partial hysterectomy and some bowel surgery. If they could get in and get out with laser. I would not care, but the doctor said if they run into scar tissue then he will have to cut me open while i was under. I said no because i did not want to wake up to a major surgery after being put to sleep for a minor one. I decided to take the fat out of my diet and do this gallbladder flush i found on the web. Apple juice with a teas spoon of apple cider vinegar for a day or two, then apple juice an a few tea spoons of olive oil, then increase after no solid foods for at least 3 days start on a raw diet, salad, with seed oils, raw beets with lemon juice and olive oil, carrots, etc. then eventually increase to soft vegetables, rice. skim milk cereal like cheerios. definitely no beef. Then add fish baked not fried eggs boiled. No fried foods. So far no pain but the condition is still there. The only thing i fear is if only 19.9% is being release then 81% is staying back. Will my gallbladder burst? Will it continue to be filled by the liver even though it has 81% of the bile from the previous fill in it still sitting there? Does the liver only produce the amount of bile that the gall bladder does not have in it or will it just fill with regular capacity amount on top of the 81% in there causing it to eventually burst? What is the consequence of it bursting? Anyone know. Thanks for this wonderful web site.

Hmmm, very interesting. I have all these symptoms and sever attacks, pain, bloat, etc for over 25 years now. Was told at 17 I had IBS and not much ever helped. Just thought all these years I had to live like this. SOmeone suggested a gallbladder test and today I learned it is operating at 20%. COuld have been forever. I have a consult with a surgeon next week. This could really be great news, something to actually fix me! I never heard that a gallbladder could burst before?

I am now 42 and generally in great health.  My diet has always been healthy, lots of salads, non-fat milk, cheeses, etc.  I exercise frequently and have no weight issues.  However, for over two years or more, I have suffered with heartburn, bloating, cramping, pain radiating into back, feeling like a giant ball was stuck in the pit of my stomach - you name it.   I complained to my doctor who just suggested heartburn meds.  These did nothing.  Was sent for an endoscopy, more bloodwork, ultrasound - which showed nothing.  Not that I wanted anything to be wrong, but when you are having constant digestive issues, you want to have something to point a finger at and not think you are losing your mind.  I was finally told it was just irritable bowel and told to drink Metamucil.  The whole time I was convinced something was not right but felt like a hypochondriac so didn't want to bother the doctors.   After dealing with these symptoms for years and the pain worsening under my ribs and radiating to my shoulders, nausea, etc., etc., I finally could not take it anymore and did some research on my own and "everything" I read pointed to the gallbladder.  I did not think I fit the typical profile as I am not overweight and have a low fat diet.  I read many posts where people had been through multiple tests and the only thing that showed the problem was the HIDA scan.   Requested my doctor do this and found out today that "yes" it is my gallbladder - functioning at 28%.  Not that I am happy about this, but comforting to know that I was not losing my mind all these years and something was not right.  If you are out there and having any of these symptoms, be persistent and make sure you are requesting the right tests.  Hope this helps someone.

I had my GB out a week ago as it wasn't functioning right. I still have the same burning that I had before surgery. I hope I didn't make a mistake by having it removed. Glad you are doing better. How long did it take.?

I just had a HIDA scan and mine is operating at 1%. Am I in danger of it rupturing?

Hi, i just had my HIDA scan yesterday and got the results today, i only have 1% gallbladder function. I want my gallbladder out as I heard leaving it in can cause sludge and potential for malignancies (my grandmother died of cancer of the stomach and liver) so I have to be extra cautious. I am on an acid reducer which helps with most of the pain, which is felt mainly in the middle of my upper abdomen under my breasts, this was also followed by extreme nausea. I went into the hospital a couple weeks ago and they did an ultrasound and said everything looked fine but i had extra acid in the stomach ( which led to the acid reducer). I am so glad i got my HIDA scan done and all along I knew it was the gallbladder as my mom, grandma, grandpa, aunt and uncle had it too, so it was a good indication of a diseased gallbladder. Just thought i would share my story with everyone. Thanks.

I am unable to find anything about % of gall bladder functions on internet also. I have for the past year been hurting off and on on the right side under my rib cage. Continually getting more frequent and as you described it feels like someone is taking a board or large rock and it's just sitting inside your ribs hurting. Vomiting sick feeling most of the time. Just had a hida scan two weeks ago and gall bladder is functioning at 23%. Lost my health insurance due to changing jobs so unable to go back until 2/3/13 to schedule surgery.

My husband was going through the same thing. Had all the tests two weeks ago and they said they didn't want to remove his gallbladder. He just died Sunday. Don't mess around with the gallbladder. Make them take it out!

My husband Kevin is going through a lot of similar stuff as you described (Sjogren's Syndrome) He'll be having a lip biopsy with in the next week or so and he has many questions. It would be nice if he had someone with Sjogren's to talk to.  Thank you Mindy ☺

My 11 year old daughter had been experiencing mid to lower abdominal pain for at least past nine months, having a constant pain level of 5 and occasional "gabbing" pains of 8. (usually during a lot of activity) After doing every test under the sun they finally did a HIDA scan, it show her gallbladder was only functioning at 23%.  Her pain was not typical gallbladder pain "URQ" because she has Celiac Disease and does not eat fatty or deep fried food, they figure.  The doctor took her gallbladder out one week later 12/27/14, (the gallbladder had significant scarring on it also)  One week later she is free from her old pain and has a pain level of 2 only by surgical sites.  She eats less but more often now because she now can tell when she is hungry.
