I work in the health care field and have a hard time believing a doctor would say he NEVER had anyone complain of that issue. Perhaps because they see you shortly after the surgery for your follow up and a lot of folks are just getting their diet figured out and probably haven't experimented much with alcohol yet. I had mine out a month ago and do okay with ONE drink occasionally. I did push it at a celebration and experienced the rapid inebriation and excessive vomiting others have described. Before surgery I consumed probably 1-2 drinks a month. So I would say I don't have any underlying problem. Every one is different!

i had my gall bladder removed april 1st 2014 and have had no issues whatsoever eating whatever i want. I had laparendoscopy. I also am able to drink just fine more than 6 glasses if i pace myself even more no pain no nausea everything is fine. i waited 2 wks to start drinking and i've had absolutely no issues eating spicy foods or greasy foods and of course drinking alcohol. I also have gerd and dyspepsia. i'm on rantidine x 2 daily and nexium x 1 daily. I am able to drink exactly the same as before! I don't get drunk any faster. I didn't drink for 2 months before my surgery I'm not sure if that made a difference but I'm doing great! After i got my gallbladder removed i was in excruiciating amount of pain i had to go back to my surgeon the day after surgery they put me on hydrocodine with acetophemine 40 mg for 2 days then they dropped it down to 20 then 10 then eventually 5 once i was off my pain meds and ibprofen i began drinking by then it had been 2 weeks no pain from my gallbladder other than when i breathe in deeply which i'm told is normal. SO uh, yeah for those of you out there that are about to have gallbladder surgery that are concerned about whether or not you'll be able to drink the way you did before the surgery everybody is different for me i've had no issues whatsoever i started off drinking apple cider to gauge if i'd be okay then i went ahead and started drinking kraken the black spiced rum and have had no issues i dont drink alcohol straight just mixed drinks 1 shot per 8 oz drink. Good luck and hope everything works out! Also remember that the filter you've had before, your gallbladder, has been removed so every oz of alcohol is going directly to your liver. Just something to keep in mind.

I removed my gallbladder in 2007. I can still drink any kind of alcohol, I've had vodka, beer, rum, cocktails, shots etc. But after I have way too much I start throwing up, both alcohol and bile (that never used to happen). I would still feel a bit buzzed in the morning and have some strange bowel movements. (This is also happens when I haven't eaten anything for more than 6 hours on end). I also noticed that I have "food poisoning" (or that's just what the doctors call it) and throw up bile at least 6-7 times consecutively; this would happen around two times a year and there was no specific kind of food (fatty vs. healthy) that would trigger it, just random. "Change in weather" , "food poisoning" or "oh, some virus", they would say.

I had my gallbladder removed a month ago, I am not a big drinker maybe 1 time every 6 months, yesterday I had some drinks at the river (just beer) like 4, I am a light weight so the fact I was some what tipsy is no surprise, but the fact that I now feel like I am going to die is all new, I have been throwing up, dizzy, stomach cramps and alot more, I have had a hangover before but this is different. I am just going to stop drinking all together, the pain and discomfort is not worth it.

Hey gallbladderless family!
I am 23 years old and had my gallbladder removed almost 6 weeks ago. I must admit I did like to have a drink with the girls and my family over dinner or maybe a night out. During my university days I drunk liquors like they were going out of fashion. However, after reading all of your responses I am scared to try any alcohol again.....but I miss being able to have a casual drink with friends/family....especially now that xmas is 5 days away! Should I risk it and give it a go? If so what drink should I try? Also what should i eat or stay away from during the day before I start to drink?
i am feeling so excluded from the social enviroments.
PLEASE HELP ME EXPERIENCED GALLBLADDERLESS FAMILY

You got that right. Legalize marijuana. It's an herb given to us to protect and serve pain, anxiety, nausea, panic disorder and a myriad of other ailments. Liquor prohibition lasted 50 years until the government just gave up. It's time to do the same with marijuana. I have found that most cannabis smokers do not drink, take pills, nor is it a "gateway" to a deeper and darker side than meth, etc. The herb grows wild in some places, ya know?
