Well right before I had my GB taken out the pre-op dr said it was the alcohol that caused some of my gall stones, i was 24 when i had it removed. Im 26 now, Ill admit i am a binge drinker and boy do i like to drink. I have noticed that i cant drink like i used to, i dont think i get the abdominal pains but i get headaches like a hangover if im buzzed then it goes away. i went drinking with a friend and after many of tasty drinks i passed out on her couch.. when normally she passes out on me. oh i also need days to recover when i used to be able to do a whole weekend binger... i thought it might be my age cuz im not 21 anymore but i think the no gb has a part.. hmmm.
When i got my GB taken out dr said it was so full of stones it was also infected... id rather be a cheap drunk then have to deal with another GB attack.. i thought i was gonna die...

I had my gallbladder removed in September, I'm 19 so I used to drink a fair bit being young and whatnot. The reason we can't drink much anymore is because your liver takes over the job of your gallbladder managing bile and fat digestion, and drinking on top of this gives it too much work. I get an attack when I drink too much, particularly heavy drinks, I can't drink port or lager but I can manage one alcopop or a glass of cherry sourz and coke!

I had my gallbladder removed in April of 2012 when I was 19. I used to be able to drink basically whatever I wanted and however much I wanted and I felt fine, never felt sick, never had a hangover. After my gallbladder was removed I was feeling it after the first beer and by my fourth I was almost drunk, which is very, very unlike me. I also feel nauseous and light headed after just a few beers. At first I thought it was in my head because I'd heard about people having a lower tolerance and I hate throwing up so I thought maybe I was only feeling nauseous because I was focusing on it so much and all that. I realized fairly quickly that it was NOT in my head and that I really was feeling very sick after only 4 beers. I tried eating some food, switched to water. Water helped, food made it worse.
I just turned 21 and I want to drink without getting sick. Apparently I'm asking for too much from my body. Oh and I spend the next day in the bathroom if I drink too much the night before. It sucks.

it takes about 3 months for your liver to "learn" to take over the job of the gall bladder, so after surgery you really should be careful about eating/drinking substances that can stress the liver. I was careful for 3 months, then when I felt like my old self, I went slowly in introducing alcohol and fatty foods. Now I can usually drink one or no more than two alcoholic drinks but I have to be careful of not eating fatty food with it or the next day I have to go to the bathroom many times (BM). So I usually just drink one drink when I go out, drink lots of water and eat healthy before i go out or at the bar/restaurant.. the last time i went out i had two strong margaritas and alot of pizza and the next day i had to use the bathroom 3-4 times and had to take immodium for diarhhea and had stomachache. next time i wont eat fatty pizza with alcohol. I think the liver is just working over time and your body makes you sick by diarrhea or vomiting to get rid of the food/alcohol that it can not process. Its your body's way of getting rid of potentially dangerous substances. I am going to try to listen to it better.

I was just searching for gallbladder and alcohol intolerance and found this. I had my gallbladder removed in 2010 and I have not been much of a drinker since then and so I never connected it but I cannot hardly drink at all without a long terrible hangover, heart palpitations, insomnia, naessea, etc. now and sometimes body pain. I thought it was my fibromyalgia, but this makes more sense.

I am 33 and had my GB removed 7 days ago and i kept on researching on the effect of GB removal, well i am an occasional drinker and have read a lot about the relation of liquor to GB removal and i think i have a pretty good theory about it. We all know the GB is a sort of storage of bile produce by the liver that breaksdown fats... and since the GB was removed we lost the storage of over produce bile and it goes straight to the stomach together with the liquor which is dissolve almost immediately and delivered to your system instantly. I think prior to the GB removal very few bile goes straight to your stomach and all the liquor that you have taken wasn't dissolve, some were taken by urination. Just a wild theory... Thanks

Hello:is very weird to read all the comments and I didn't find not even one that is feeling the way I do, after my GB removal in April I had some complications very painful recovery, after a month I started with my regular diet I don't like fatty food and I cook in home that was fine, when I had my first drink I was scared that is going to afect my body in a bad way but after five months I can feel "nothing" that i drink gives me not even a buzz, it's weird and it's not that i want to get drunk but at least feel something!!! i drank the other day a bottle of wine by myself and a glass of rum and coke and nothing, before i used to feel the buzz after the second glass of wine. What is going on please, somebody help me to understand, I don't want to over drink. it makes no sense if I can feel nothing should I just stop drinking? thinking about my poor liver...

I had my gallbladder removed about 3 weeks ago. Yesterday was my birthday, and I decided to celebrate with some White Russians. I used to be able to drink like a fish, and assumed I could handle it. I noticed that I was buzzing pretty fast, and had about 2 more. I felt fine all night, had fun, and went to bed drunk. I woke up still drunk, and that lasted for about 2 hours. I was awake, but felt as if I was in a dream. I had a hard time making sense of reality. My body felt slow and soon enough I started to feel motion sickness and the drunkeness wore off. I started vomiting, and of course no alcohol came up. It had already been processed. I've vomited on-and-off throughout the day, which is anything I've tried to consume for nourishment. I can't keep water down, I've tried gatorade, juice, crackers, tums, and a popsicle. It all comes up. I feel tortured because I'm so incredibly thirsty, and I'm too afraid to try to drink anything because I don't want to puke anymore. My stomach muscles hurt from heaving all day. There is nothing in my stomach, so when I do vomit it is a bitter-tasting yellow liquid. It is almost 6PM and I still don't feel well. No appetite whatsoever. This is hands-down the worst hangover I've ever felt. I suppose I figured I'd have a small headache in the morning, but this whole thing is lasting all day. I have no energy, if I sit up or move too suddenly I feel nauseous again, and FORGET getting in a car. I puked all over my lap. I am convinced the only way to avoid this feeling is to NOT drink. At this point, I'm perfectly okay with that. I honestly think if I felt even a little bit worse, I'd have my boyfriend drive me to the hospital.

Well I can empathise with you on this score- I had my gal bladder removed 14 th oct 13 .... And I had stopped any drink since 28 th sept in preparation and fact that I'd felt so ill for so long.....and 4 days ago had my first drink....having tried to WANT To have a drink and failed miserably several times before this......well......NEVER AGAIN Have been my resounding words....... Worse than a gal attack...felt sick, motion sick, whilst stationary....and diddent even enjoy while was trying to have fun and a drink....this by the way is WAY. Out of character and I did enjoy a glass of wine or two and loved my dark beers.......
Still having internal pain and feel a fraud for such and the eating still diff.....and nothing normal has really resumed as far as what I feel I can try and eat.....don't get me wrong it's a joy not to have the pain in my upper back etc and was under no illusions I could resume eating for England ....but getting advice and direction is very hot and miss and not quite sure what to believe and try...... Hey ho.......bring on crimbo- NOT........

It takes time. I had my gallbladder removed when I donated part of my liver to my son 18 months ago. At first all was good. No issues. I'm starting to get a little acid reflux after drinking beer, usually after the third or fourth schooner. I find that dark liquors like rum and bourbon to do as much damage. Also, cereal for breakfast is more preferable. I used to have coffee and toast but found that'd send my off to the dunny after the surgery.
