Symptoms:
Every morning I wake feeling tired. My Body feels weak and I’m mildly nauseated. I don’t want to get out of bed. As the morning progresses my symptoms gradually worsen, my hands and legs become sweaty. I get pains in my shoulders and neck. I have episodes where I become more distressed. I hyperventilate and dry retch/heave. These feelings persist well into the afternoon. I have no desire to eat food. Then I wait for the symptoms to abate. By the late afternoon I can usually get out bed and I gradually get better. I feel reasonably well by the evening and can eat a good dinner.
This first started four months ago and got significantly worst a month ago. When it first started, it only lasted 2-3 hours in the morning and I would have days with no symptoms at all.
History:
The morning episodes of tiredness, leg sweatiness, weakness and nausea were very similar to what I had about eight years ago when I had a confirmed e-coli urine infection. I was hospitalised and it responded to a course of antibiotics. Over the next five years I had recurring bouts of these morning symptoms that didn’t respond to antibiotic treatment. I had a vast array of medical investigations which didn’t show anything and back then it cleared, after I recovered from a flu infection. I had a period of about two and a half years when I was free of these morning symptoms. It started again the day after I became tired from walking up a steep hill. The symptoms worsened a month ago after I took an amitriptyline tablet that my neurosurgeon prescribed to ease the pain in my hands. This caused me to be so tired I stayed in bed virtually for the next five days. I took only the one tablet. Recent tests show I have a normal Hb, white cell count, blood sugar, urea and electrolytes, thyroid function tests and cortisol level.
Extra information:
Six months ago I had an operation on my neck as I had a C4-5 cervical disk prolapse that had compressed my spinal cord causing pain tingling and numbness in both my hands, aches in my upper arms and numbness in the soles of my feet, mild gait ataxia and limb weakness. Since that operation there has been some improvement, but I still have numbness tingling and aching of both my hands especially my thumb and first finger.
TL;DR: Dry retching/heaving, very tired in the morning.
When the doctors can't help I try a naturopath. Standard Process practitioners are especially good for digestive problems and endocrine problems. You can find one near you by going to their web site and typing in your zip code. If you don't like the first one you find, try another. Good luck!
