Hi,

I m currently trying to come off this awful drug aswell and it's just terrible, I can't believe its allowed to be dished out. I feel so angry and also think it needs to be stopped. I am in the UK, not sure if that is helpful.

How long have you been on it?
12 years for me. Been having problems with it the last 2 years. I cannot take more than 37.5 mg ..but cant get off it as the sobbing does not stop. My head never feels right anymore. Might try one more time tapering to Viibryd...i'm! terrified. Almost lost my job last year trying to get off,,,and still barely hanging on this year.

Hi I saw your posts and thought I would comment. My friend has been Effexor xr free for 8 years. The taper was slow over one year. I would suggest joining a support group, theres a few on facebook "Cymbalta hurts worse" is a good one, although the medication is different, the withdrawal procedure is very similar. They always say don't reduce the dose more than 10 per cent at any one time. Also check out Ann Blake Tracey. Shes also very experienced with SSRIS and the damage they can cause.
There is also a class action in Australia for any Australians that started antidepressants when they were 18 years or under and had adverse effects. The Australian antidepressant class action is also on facebook, they have some good support tips.. Also check out surviving antidepressants website.

I've been off Effexor XR for four months. My short and long term memory loss is affecting my life. I have trouble focusing, insomnia and anxiety.

If you have only been on Effexor for a short time, I would try to taper off of it, before it is more difficult.

That makes sense because benadryl is considered a S.R.I. Not a S.S.R.I. It hit the market I believe in 1949. They used it as a psychiatric drug as well as an anti histimine. Looks similar to a technique some psychiatrists use called the Effexor Prozac bridge to ease the horrible withdrawal symptoms I am still going thru after I quit taking this drug over two months ago. Lots of purified fish oil with omega 3 and super b complex vitamins stopped the brain zaps. I took way more fish oil/omega 3 S than what was recommended along with NO caffeine and lots and lots of water.
I was on the max "safe" dose of Effexor Xr for a period of two years or so....225 mg daily.
Just remember, it will get better. Draminine certainly helps me with the vomiting/nausea thing.
Good luck to you and hang in there!

So tired of this...dont know how much more I can take. Doctor now wants to try cross tapering venlafaxine IR 37.5 mg down to 18.75 and adding 12.5 sertraline.
GOD HELP ME....been going through this for one year now.

I have been taking this drug for over 20 years ad can not come off of it, i can not find any one or any doctor philologist or anyone to help me. I was told this medication was going to help me because i refused to take hormone replacement so this was the alternative

Do your own research, take a look at Dr. Ann Blake Tracey, Dr. Yolande Lucire.
These two Doctors have lots of experience in helping people get off antidepressants. Check out a facebook page Cymbalta hurts worse. They always say do not reduce by anymore than 10 per cent at any one time.

The problem is that Doctors don't seem to know about the highly addictive nature of these medications, and the awful withdrawals. You need support from other people that are going through this and have gotten to the other side. Do not reduce by more than 10 per cent at one time. Check out the support group Cymbalta hurts worse on face book.
