I have the same problem in my head...do I need to see a doctor?
I started getting these 3 days after finishing a very slow taper of off Lexapro. I did a week at 20mg (my dose), a week at 10mg, a week at 5mg, and a week at 2.5mg, then nothing. About 3 days later the brain zaps started, peaked about 5 days after that and have been generally subsiding since. At the peak, there were very tiring, but more irritating and uncomfortable than painful. I have also heard described as a very short version of the light-headedness from getting up too fast or comparable to a brief nitrous buzz. In my experience, this is always related to depression, or more likely, anti-depressant medications, especially withdrawal from them. I also experience it in my hands (fingers) and feet at the same time if I'm moving at the time. Note - if you are not on anti-depressants or withdrawing or switching meds, etc, definitely see your doctor. I have also referred to it as Lhermitte's sign, tho I feel it in my brain, not down my neck, as well as parasthesia, which is a general term for tingliness, from simple pins-and-needles to what we're experiencing. Per pharmacist recommendation, I have been taking ibuprofen and xanax to try to mitigate the effects. It has been two weeks off the med, and 10+ days of buzzes, so I'm hoping for resolution soon.
Hi, so relieved to read your post. I started reducing Loxamine (think it's the same as Paxil) from 20mg to 10mg about 2 weeks ago after about a year on them and have these weird electrical pulses in my head also. Think from what I've been reading that I might have reduced too soon and it needs to be taken very slowly to avoid these horrible symptoms.
I have the same sensation. I think withdrawal has to be taken very slowly like by 2 mg a week. Horrible sensation having the brain zaps!!
Hi, I'm trying to come off Loxamine and have a lot of 'brain zaps' (as I call them). Can I ask how long it took for them to go away. The are not pleasant but I don't want to up my dose again. Thanks :)
Ok ive been taking drugs for years and last year ive stop for a little while then thoses electric waves like shock in my head would be craaaaazy, its like a dzzzzzzzzzzit i can also hear them ; so screwed, the only way to avoid it is to keep doing drugs ! Wow that is screwed! I guess the only way to avoid them is Dont do drugs ever. Even pot is proven to change your brain!!
I believe in that ' also it seem that when i eat a lots of sugar or stop doing drugs those shock comeback
I get this electrical charge feeling that consistently happens for a while, then it will suddenly stops too. It happened for the past couple days again. It hasn't happened for a few months. It's been going on for years. Thank you for the posts. It helps knowing I'm not the only one. I have Fibromyalgia.
Omg, someone feel's the same thing as I do.
Going through the same thing, been to Dr's....sinus infection!! Or allergies!! I'm so tired of trying to figure this out. Totally drained

First of all, don't panic. This is important. Next, I want to say people get that tight spin feeling in their spine upwards, which goes into the head, like an electric whiz feeling. Not that it is an indicator that you will get dizzy, but if so... it is at that stage that it has gotten too far. Why is this? Well for starters, it can be a lot of things. Stress is the number one thing out there. Panic (what we mean by that, there are different forms of that), "worrying." This stresses your body and mind out. Neurologically as well. Have you ever found yourself grinding your teeth? Like Pelosi did at Trumps Address in Jan 2018. Worrying can grind up a lot of your neuro transmitters. With that said, depending on your diet, what did you eat on that day while under stress? Let' say you have been drinking a lot of sodas, juices, etc (caffeine is one, but especially fructose). Yep, this isn't good. This gets your brain super racy. Causing fireworks between blood cells (the neuro exchange). The sodium was one that I thought was the problem. I would say, yes it is. Also, in the soda, some drink diet sodas that has aspartame in it. If you are taking medications, the aspartame, or another form of sugar sweetener replacement might not go well together. Causing the spark in your head. I had vertigo for like 23 yrs (on and off), it was debilitating. Over time, I learned that it what was happening in my life and how my diet was during this time was the culprit (an I did have an accident like a year before it all started and had bad migraines). PBPV excercises helped some. Okay, why stress? Here's what stress does, the neck & shoulders tighten up, if you have any discs that are degenerating like in the Cspine, or had an accident years ago, this area of the muscle framework will tighten up when under stress. Then this causes all kinds of things, it will limit blood from going to up your brain. This creates an ischemic like mini strokes. This usually makes you feel that feeling. But intermittently. So you never actually have a stroke. You really need to loosen up that stress, to keep your neck from starving your brain areas. Secondly, the nervous system runs up inside your spine, the tightening there in your neck too gets interrupted as well, thus the sudden dizziness.. Dizziness is related to the 8th nerve, that runs up into your semicircular canals/brain etc. There are also thin blood vessels that go into that area too, to your semicircular canals. So if it's either one of the two; or both, you'd be in trouble with that. Why diet? well sugars, sodium, caffeine and artificial chemicals will excite the neurological system and if you are under stress, these substances get into the cells and create havoc, then suddenly you feel weird or worse. After realizing that these things were the problem, I had to really get a grip here.Like it's time to relax more, to avoid this crazy head stuff, there are ways to do that. Have been on benedryl to take that edge off, lorazpham if it is really bad, meclizine if I think something is up, advil if it is related to sinuses, which sometimes mimic those feelings (as I usually don't feel pain in my sinuses, but if it is extremely dry that's where I think its sinus allergy related). As always, I put the humidier in my room because my blood cells generally doesn't like to be functioning like raisins, as it needs to be hydrated. This can give you problems neurologically, if you don't have proper hydration in your system. Also, another item magnesium is good too. I spray myself with magnesium on and off as needed. Lastly, if you keep track of your bowel health, you may notice that constipation (dry) is the symptom of bad hydration. So , that's where you get those head symptoms. Depends on how badly dehydrated you are. To resolve that, take some Citrucell, a fav of mine and then drink lots of water, this really kicks my bad head aches associated with those head fizzin creepers that buzzes in a whiz. That's it. I hope this helps. Be well all of you, my spinning, fizzin, buzzed out head friends. Take care of yourself. Kick the Stress in the ass and say good bye. (Hot tubs are real nice, when you are not too fizzed out).
Exact same here. Since 2011. Doctors seem hopeless. Had tests and am in line for many more. No answers yet.
It’s debilitating. I feel terrible everyday.

I've had something extremely similar to this, as to why it happens is beyond me. I find that sometimes I need to go as far as to wrap some bare copper wire i got out of an old TV around the bottom of my shoe to ground to keep this 'charge buildup' to a minimum.
