I'm having endimetrial albation this week. I was wondering about not only recovery but how long before normal activity (exercise & sex) can resume?
All the necessary information you will certainly get from your doctor according to your health, ablation procedure and type of anesthesia but I will tell you a little bit of how things should work in general.
The procedure is done on an outpatient basis, which means you will be released from the hospital/clinic after you have recovered from anesthesia. It takes around 2 hours if you have taken spinal, epidural or general anesthesia. After the surgery, your blood pressure, pulse, breathing will be checked and if everything’s ok, you will be released.
Ablation may last from 15 to 45 min. Make sure someone picks you up.
A few days after the surgery, you may experience vaginal bleeding but similar discharge may persist for a few weeks. You are likely to be using pads until the discharge and bleeding subside.
Another possible side effect that may persist is cramping. You may decide to take painkillers but ask your doctor which drugs you should use. You should know that Aspirin and some other painkillers increase the chance of bleeding, so you should avoid these.
Besides cramping you may feel nauseous, and like vomiting and may have an urge to urinate more than often.
Avoid douching, tampons, and of course inserting things into your vaginal cavity for at least 2-3 weeks or for as long as your doc orders. This goes for sex as well.
You may go back to your normal dietary habits but if doctors says differently, make sure you follow his/her orders. As for the exercise, you may want to wait for a few weeks as well.
Now, the following are situations in which you should contact your doc: if you experience foul odor or discharge from vagina, strong abdominal pain, heavy bleeding and if you develop fever and chills.
I hope everything turns out well. Good luck!
