Hi, my doctor suspects I have gastroesophageal reflux disease, but he needs to perform endoscopy. Shall I be given anesthesia for this procedure?

Hi, usually, the diagnostic test, an upper endoscopy GERD is performed. It is done by passing a flexible scope through the patient's mouth and into the esophagus and stomach. it can be done with or without anesthesia. Remember that if you take anesthesia, you will be confused whole day, and need to cancel all your other activities. If you can sand to have something being put in your trough it is better to avoid anesthesia. The tissue samples and pictures provided in endoscopy will enable the doctor to put a diagnosis.
