i am one month "behind you"& I still have two k wires in.just this week my doctor allowed me to bear weight on the foot after he remo Ed a wire from the second toe and one from on top of the foot.it hurts like heck to stand on it. I have no idea how thebother lady was running in 8 weeks. I admire her endurance for pain ! I am just hoping to be ableto walk by the end of february and put on a tennis shoe sometime in march.my doctor says no heels for 6-12 months.luckily flats are in style this spring/summer. You should probably stick with cute flats so the bunion does not come back.I will be so glad to get out of this blue boot that flats and sneakers will be just fine.
Take care and keep us posted.

If you ice your ankle, it is effective for your foot.

I am so glad i found this discussion! I had both my feet operated on at the same time and im having problems with the r foot even a year afterwards. It hurts and still feels really weak. I cant run very far without my knees/feet starting to hurt. I was wondering if anyone was having problems with their knees? I think im a bit misaligned. My feet are pretty though, someone even said i had nice feet! First for everything hey!!

I had double bunion surgery almost 3 weeks ago.  I also had a taylor bunion on my right foot and I chose to shorten all toes except from the pinky toes.  I have had bad pain in my right bunion for a couple of years.

My first foot was done a Monday and the other one two days after.  The first week was in terrible pain.  The painkillers didnt help me since I got sick from them and couldnt take them. After two weeks it changed and the pain was something I could cope with.  However sleeping at night was not easy.  One hour in a chair, one hour in bed and the rest sitting up on the pc... trying to forget what the ......I had done.  But now last night I slept 4 hours!  FANTASTIC!!

I can walk slowly in my "Darco" shoes now.  Taking it easy, because of swelling after.

In 3 days I am taking stitches and pins out.  I have 8 pins to take out and I was told to take an Ibux before I get to the doc's office.   Hope its not too unbearable.  However cant wait to get my feet back without all of that.

Reading on net on blogs and input from others experiences has helped a lot!  Thank you for everyone for posting.

Hi, good luck with your surgery.  I had surgery March 5 of this year and still not yet back to work. Just started driving this week (almost 4 months later).  I could not take the Pergaset prescribed as I reacted negatively to the medication. Instead I relied on Tylenol and as you know Tylenol is not made for bunion surgery pain. It helped a bit but overall the pain was unbearable. Four months later, my foot always swells when it gets warmer outside, it's uncomfortable walking still (I walk with a slight limp and not yet perfect) and I have to repeatedly ice and at times elevate.  I also had the second toe done and that has been even more of a worse experience than the bunion on the big toe! It's been constantly numb, swells, and is usually stiff.  I can't wait to get back to normal and work out again and wear nice shoes :)  I've learned, however, to accept my healing process, as I've been told by the physical therapist that the healing takes 6-12 months (physical therapy helps...do it!!!!). So, it's been 4 months as I've said and I've realized if I can't fight the healing then I must accept it, because the body heals on its own time, and this has been the best healing for me in just getting my mind right and accepting "what is" happening to my foot and not fighting myself about the "what if's" (what if I didn't do the surgery? what if I chose a different doctor? the point is it's done! Now I must accept it and move on).  Hope I'm not scaring you but I'm being real.  I wish I had deferred to these blogs before surgery for the "real" side of the experiences, but I relied unfortunately on what others said and they turned out to be false!  So best of luck to you and I wish you well with your healing.

I had a bunionectomy the end of Jan. and 6 months later now, I'm walking without a limp but my toe is still quite stiff. I had a bone graft on the metatarsal as well. I was able to walk on the treadmill several weeks ago but decided to start back on my road bike till I can run. I think the biking has really helped strengthen the toe/foot but I'm dying to get back out and run! Getting up the courage to go hit the pavement soon! Only instructions my doc gave me was no heels for a year. I see so many others running weeks after surgery and wonder how that can be!

Hi there, I had bunion surgery, tailors bunion correction and correction of hammertoe on my right foot in 2010. The tailors bunion and hammertoe deformity correction went really well but I have had non stop problems where I have bunion surgery on my big toe I can't bend it anymore which means no heels,no yoga, no ballet. I am devastated because I am 35 years old and an actor and did a show last week and squeezed heels on for the role of a hooker, I always get prostitute parts for some strange reason and came off set in agony. I have lost many musical jobs since the op as I can't dance anymore. And if I can't wear heels won't get my usual prostitute parts I'm over! I sincerely regret having the surgery. :-(

I had my bunion surgery 7 weeks ago and after reading this post, it scared me! Not only is my name Tara, but I also recently lost weight this summer and now after 7 weeks, I feel like my body is jello. Now that your surgery is over, any advice? I'm in a boot still. WHEN CAN I HIT THE GYM AGAIN?!

I had bunion surgery on both feet and hammer toe correction on 2 toes.  Surgery went well and I experienced little pain (been told numerous times I have an extremely high pain tolerance).  I had the pins removed from the hammer toe last Friday after 6 weeks.  The joint in both big toes has been removed and fused and plated.  I will not be able to move my big toes due to the fusion and have minimal movement in the toes beside due to the hammer toe surgery.  Can't figure this out but the doctor has not prescribed physio but said eventually I will be able to wear 3 1/2 inch heels.  Go figure that one out!  Heels with fused bones???  Has anyone else had this kind of surgery.  I'm walking around reasonably well other than some swelling mostly concentrated on the bottom of my feet.  The only shoes I can wear are ones I can fit to my feet rather than being able to squeeze my feet into shoes!  Do not feel I have had much support from the doctor than sending me home.

stephy Hi, I'm 16 years old and just had surgery on my right foot. I had bunion and bunionette removed on 1/8/14. As far as me recommending surgery as soon as you are able to I'd say go for it. They're was pain present the first 3 days but I would say on a scale of 1-10 it was a 2. I took vicodin as prescribed for 5 days then, I took half a dose every 8 hrs. But, we must remember that we are all different and with different needs. In my own personal opinion it's just the not being able to bear weight on my foot and staying put on my sofa that was pain staking. As of 2/10/14 I've been in my sneakers; I did stay an hour first day, 2 hours the next etc. etc.

I'am 6weeks postop bunionectomy, and hammer toe.  My rt great toe is stiff as a board, I have been experiencing shocks to the top of my foot. I asked my Dr. he said that was normal.  My hammertoe feels floppy but good. I would highly recommend that you research your surgeon before going under the knife.  I was very blessed with my surgery I had NO pain what so ever... The only downfall was that my bone fractured as he was removing my bunion..My Dr expressed great sadden when he told me what had  happened. So now I use a bone stimulator daily to promote heal to my fractured toe... I only take mortin for the edema. I will be starting physical therapy soon. I'am finally able to drive. And thank God no more crutches... But my cam boot  helps when I'am out and about which not often. I miss going to  my Yoga classes. But I'am able to walk barefooted  at home... I do feel minor regret, but preparation for this type of surgery is the best strategy.....Good Luck ..

My doctor prescribed Norco for me, and I've had very little pain. I've already had the right foot done, with both regular and tailor's bunions. It's a long recovery, but I think it's worth it. Get lots of library books, and watch old movies. Let other people wait on you.

I am recovering from bunion/hammertoe surgery as we speak. I had the first foot done a year ago. I put on about 6 lbs. the first time, and I am paranoid about putting more on right now. I have been doing alot of upper body resistance and toning moves to try to keep muscle % up, as that will keep my metabolism up a little. Bottom line is, for me anyway, to keep calories down while I can't do much moving. I am ALOT older than you, but I have always been an exerciser, so I am very weight conscious. Just be aware of what you are eating, do upper body, and you will be fine. Good luck with your recovery. It does get better
