I could not feel the ice through the bandages and was advised to apply ice above the bandage which meant top of foot at ankle. It helped-I got a good quality ice pack through Amazon and it made a big difference.

I'm 16, I have recently haut gotten both of my feet done for bunion surgery. You will be down for a few months and will feel sore. It's been a month and a half and I'm finally walking again, but I'm not allowed to do anymore Han that. When I try to run or walk down steps, I can feel it hurting. You will have moments on which you will have no way to avoid the pain. I hope this helps even the slightest bit. Because I do every sport in high school besides swimming as I think this has been a really far set back on me. I'd hate to see it happen to someone else.

Hi, I'm 22 and I am 3 weeks into my bunion surgery. As for the pain it is non existent, the first 2 weeks were very painful, felt like my foot was going to explode many times but don't let that put you off!! It's sooo worth it I'm only 3 week after my op and feel great healing is a lot faster then I ever imagined. Although I havnt been able to excersize yet I cant imagine it to be much longer. Good luck x

I have had two bunion surgeries and Vicodin was the only pain reliever that was helpful.

Just had bunion surgery 7 weeks ago, came out of surgery with two screws in foot and pin in 2nd toe. Although the pain was rough for first 3 days I have followed doctors orders by keeping foot off ground, elevated, iced for swelling. This week pin is out still some swelling which will continue for months but for the most part I am walking around and excited to get back to my Pilates class. Get a good pair of flip flops.

Yes it hurts. The good news is you have Vicodin. Take it as prescribed and keep your foot elevated as needed. Probably for 2 days. By then the swelling goes down and the pain subsides too.

So how long after were you finally able to get back in the gym?

Hi everyone!

I had a bunion surgery on my left foot in 2007 and a subsequent surgery on the same foot in 2008 and 2009 (morton's neuroma both times). I started to exercise on the 2nd week after each surgery, and every time with crutches. The first couple of days I was only able to do a couple of hundred meters but towards the end of the 6 weeks I was doing 5-10 km (with crutches!), every day, sometimes in snow. Burns some calories, I tell you!! :) After 6 weeks the doctor allowed me to start putting weight on the foot. I would still continue with crutches but started jogging quite soon. Now I will have my right foot operated (Apr) and plan to follow the same program. Sounds crazy but worked for me. As the operation is slightly heavier this time over I'll probably to more gym (upper body) and start with crutches a bit later. Also, the streets are quite slippery this time of the year in Finland.

Good luck everyone

I'm so happy for you that you have such a smooth surgery experience. I had a bunion surgery three weeks ago. My foot was put in a soft cast right after surgery for two weeks. I was instructed not to ice it so that the cast won't get wet. The joint of my foot froze after the cast was removed. My foot is still very swollen and I'm going to start PT next week.
Since I plan to have another bunion surgery on the other foot, may I know which doctor you used? Was your left foot in soft cast after surgery? Thank you!

I am scheduled to have both my feet done the end of October.
I am a runner and work out daily....I am planning on running my first full marathon next May.
I was going to do one foot at a time but decided that I just want it done with so I can move on per say and start healing.
My question is has anyone out there had both feet done at the same time and how did it go?
My doctor said that I will be in a wheel chair if I do both, and he has completed only two other people that decided to do both.

Hi!

It’s been 8 weeks post op for my bunion surgery. I also had a few pins placed to correct the alignment.

As for the pain, I actually thought it’s wasnt nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I just used T3s at bed time. The biggest struggle was the darn boot and no driving for 7 weeks. After 7 weeks of wearing the boot, I was able to take it off. X-rays show the bone isn’t done healing and still fusing, so excercise is extremely limited.

I do a lot of crossfit / weightlifting and I’m dying to get back to it. Since the bone is still healing, the most weight I can do is 50lbs, there’s a big risk the bone could snap if any heavier weight.

I was extremely diligent with my icing and doing what the doc recommended for post op recovery.

Good luck!

Place the ice pack on your ankle, and keep elevating it. Also, don’t spend a lot of time on your foot, if possible.

Hi there, I had pretty moderate bunionectomy surgery on both sides of my left foot and I had hammertoe correction for the beginning stages of hammertoes 3 weeks ago. Pretty scary surgery for me as well. I’m extremely active so not being able to work out has been the worst part, but I eat really healthy for the exception of a few snacks here and there to cure cravings. I haven’t gained any weight and actually feel pretty great. I’ve been back to work for 2 weeks on my feet so my foot is super swollen after but I I’ve it and elevate with no issues.
Today I’m going to my first spin class so I’m pretty excited to go get some awesome exercise after 3 weeks. I have 6 days to work out before I go back in for my right foot surgery so I’m definiteky going to hustle in the gym to play some catch up.
I hope everyone on this thread is nice and healed and back to working out. It’s great reading everyone else’s stories. Thank you for sharing! Gives me great energy.

Just had it done Jan 15th. biggest mistake , I wish I would have never done it... here I am 4 weeks later, still very swollen, and still in pain and the scars are horrid. The first week was unbearable pain, and I had oxycontin and morphin and I have a very high pain threshhold
