That is interesting does anyone else have any experience with removal by yourself? I am a former egg donor (multiple times) and discovered that now egg donors can have the surgery done while they are using Mirena.. I'm 34 and looking to do another egg donation but my age is restrictive/ a problem... anyway after having three surgeries I had developed heavy bleeding... which has been resolved with the Pill... which was protocol then anyway for egg donors. Very interesting.
I would be interested to know if anyone else has tried self removal. That is probably what a lot would try I suspect. I am a former egg donor. I am 34 so I am looking to do another egg donation but my age is restrictive/ a problem... yes I was in a known arrangement so no accusations about my motives... as well as anonymous... I was searching for information about Mirena so I came across this website. I think it seems interesting and should probably be tried in egg donation surgeries if the egg donor chooses. Back then when my surgeries happened the Pill was the protocol... it has worked well since then to cease heavy bleeding... very interesting.

Abstract
We report the safe use of levonorgestrel hormone releasing intra uterine system (Mirena) as a contraceptive in egg donors during a treatment cycle. In the first case report, a 29-year-old egg donor using the Mirena coil for contraception and two egg recipients, aged 41 years and 32 years respectively underwent standard IVF treatment, oocyte retrieval in the egg donor and in vitro fertilization followed by embryo transfer in the recipient. The outcome of IVF cycle using donor eggs was satisfactory with successful pregnancy in the egg recipient. The second case involved a 34-year-old egg donor using the Mirena coil and a 44-year-old recipient. Our findings suggest that egg donors can safely use the (Mirena) as a contraceptive device during treatment, without compromising follicular development and oocyte quality.

he said installed haha
i started out very good on mirena. had it for 2 years. when i got close to that 2 yr mark i started having painful sex, nauseua, extreme bloating and stomach pains and so on. i thought for sure i was pg. i 3 or 4 pregnancy scares. i decided on removal.glad i did cause i feel normal again. i started back on oral contraceptives and all those terrible side affects are gone. its been out for 2 months and my period hasnt regulated back out yet but i guess it takes time where mirena stops your period after awhile
I had the coil fitted at 40. In feb 2013. Great point was light pain free periods!! But then the weight gain has bothered me so much I can't tell you. I'm fit , work out regular and eat quite healthy. No weight loss . It's like a disease!! I hate it and will
Probably have it out in July when I have given it 6 months. Feel fat, frumpy and my boobs are now 32f. Not laughing.
I am in a slightly similar place as you. I was 5'9", 135 lbs, 32DD, and a bubble butt. Shortly after I switched from the pill to Mirena my body changed dramatically; I now weigh 124 lbs, have no butt, and am a 32D. Though I derive my confidence partly from my intelligence and capabilities, I still derive a significant amount of my confidence from my boobs and butt. But now they are gone. My friend who saw me before insertion and then again two weeks after got so worried about the change that she called her own gyno! What is wrong? What can I do? What is going on? (I'm not trying to complain about my size, i just really miss my boobs and butt)
I posted this before:

I forgot to mention I got pretty bad acne out of nowhere. I have never had acne and suddenly my face is covered in acne..
I need help!
Hi, I'm having mine removed too. I have gained 30 pounds too and weigh 164. I exercise and run half marathons and I gain weight. I'm convinced after reading your post that it is the right thing to do, can't wait for my appointment next week.
Hi,I too have experienced sudden weight gain and enlarged breast! I changed my diet and started working out 5 days a week and the weight is not moving as I would like. I was also very curvy, even after I had my baby boy but in 2 months after I inserted Mirena, my belly become bigger and my curves were gone coupled with bra cups jumping 4 sizes up!!!! I am taking up this thing ASAP!!!!!
I know there has been a lot of negative messages about the mirena cool but honestly it's been brilliant for me. I used to get very heavy periods and when I got the mirena cool fitted I got cramps and spotty skin to begin with but that settled down very quickly. Honestly can't recommend it enough!! My boobs did shrink but that was only a minor side effect everything else is great
Me too, i am 45 had 2 mirenas. Took 1st one out after 3 years as breast pain was like mastitis.. However within 6 weeks started flooding..reason it was there!! Replaced it after year..sex drive is zero have vaginal itch feel totally emotionally detached and boobs have gone from 34d to 34 f.. I still have periods but scared to take it out as have to way up what is worse..hate the breasts x
I'm 23, a mother of two, and I've been on a Mirena for almost two years and never experienced brown discharge. But now I got brown discharge for two days! It doesn't have any odor, but I'm cramping. What does this mean?
I'm planning to remove Mirena next week after 10 years on it. After the first 5 years, I replaced it with a new one. Now, after reading all these reviews I am really, really worried. How to prevent side effects?
For all of you that have had your Mirena removed. What type of birth control are you now taking? I'm thinking of having mine removed, but need to decide on a new type as well. Any suggestions?
