To All,

The numbness appears to be either caused by alcohol or aggraviated by it.

I had drank wine when it happened the first time. Thinking it may be the sulfidies in wine, I waited several weeks and then tried beer and few days later Crown & coke. Both drinks set off the left side numbness the next monring. And I only had 1-2 drinks.

I have read posts where others experienced the same. Needless to say, I am not drinking any alcohol ( which is not a big deal as I was only an occasional drinker). But I would still like to find the exact cause or factors with this condition.

I had to provide a hair sample which is a section of about 1" (2 centimetres) x 1/2" (1 centimetre) as close to the roots as possible and send it to a technology laboratory that specialises in hair and saliva samples, etc.  I had to wait until my hair dye grew out about 1/2" or so and inform them of hair dye brand/colour, shampoo brand and any illnesses suffered so they know what, why and how.  It cost $120 Australian dollars (around the same for American $) and after a couple of weeks they send a report and graphs detailing non essential toxic elements, essential elements, minerals and nutrients stored in the sample as well as what it means.  It was considered quite rare so doctors don't learn it at med school but it is become more common now because we use so many metals in society, ie. silver in innoculations, aluminium in anti-perspirants, lead in make-up and so forth.  Mercury and silver from fillings is a huge one.  Mercury and lead are stored in the brain and affect the neurological system therefore can cause numbness.  Detoxing for heavy metal toxicities is the only way to rid them so they can pass.  The pass through urine, bowel movements and sweat.  Some naturpaths are experts in this ... or a holistic doctor as I had.  Best of both worlds.

Most people have metals but they pass through them but mine have accumulated because of my liver disfunction.  There is a lot of information on this subject on the net.  They sent me to a neurologist for the numbness and again for the tremors.  I became sensitive to alcohol.  Suffered depression.  When I moved house and became overstressed physically and mentally my adrenals glands shut down so I became quite ill.  My metabolism doesn't work so well now and so I can't lose weight and gain it easily.  I am tired.  The metals cover the cells (all/any) so therefore the nutrients can't get into the cells so I am deficient in magnesium, calcium and so on causing muscle soreness etc.  It will take me up to 5 years to rid mine as I have to detox slowly because the metals can let go but then they have to get out and that's where I have trouble.  Most people don't have this problem.

Red wine made my face go numb at half glass per night until 3rd night when my tongue started to swell up.  Heavy metal toxicities (reply before this one) blocked the things that reduce your sensitivities to things.

Hand and arm tremors and numbness were due to neurological symptoms of heavy metal toxicities also.  Had 2 brain scans that showed nothing.  Tested me for parkinson's disease etc but nothing.

Symptoms became exaggerated when stressed either physically or mentally.

I have very similar symptoms, so if you find out any answers, I would love to hear them. The feeling is mostly a skin sensation and not actually a complete numbness. The feeling is more a loss of sensation or a deadening of feeling in certain parts of my body. I first noticed this sensation about 5 years ago in my big toes. I had an EKG test and the practitioner informed me that I do have slight nerve damage in my legs, which is somewhat common in women who wear high heel shoes. About 6 months ago I noticed this feeling again in the outer part of my right thigh. The sensation has not gone away, but it has also not affected my daily life and only really notice it if I press down on the area. Then a couple of days ago I was sitting down studying and noticed a spread of the same feeling of loss of sensation mostly on the right side of my body, along my arm, lower leg, and face. The feeling briefly went away (or maybe I was preoccupied) during language class and afterwards yoga class. The feeling came back that evening as I was sitting down to dinner, but this time mostly on my left side. The feeling is in my arm, down my leg, face, and even tongue. Today the feeling is accompanied with an incredibly stiff neck. I don't have my usual range of motion when I try to move my neck towards my chest or back. I am concerned that perhaps my yoga class may have something to do with these symptoms. From what I have read on the internet, I am pretty sure these symptoms are a result of nerve damage, possibly even a slipped disk.

Thanks for your post. My numbness is the same as you described, i.e. not completely numb, but loss of senation.
Very sorry hear that you are having similar problem. Quick questions -does alcohol worsen the condition?

I actually don't know because I very rarely drink alcohol. That's a completely different issue of being Asian and missing an enzyme to digest alcohol.

Hi everyone. I posted on this topic a few post's ago. Since then I have had tons of blood work done, Was tested for Lyme, and MS, only thing that was found through that was low vitamin d and b and folic acid. MRI as well, slight abnormalities that a high blood pressure, stroke person would have, but nothing to worry about(YEAH OK) Dr(neuro) said I shouldnt do anything about it since I dont have high blood pressure.Ok I'm STILL feeling this way. I go back to my endo(thyroid) Dr and told her all my symptoms ONCE again she sent me for MORE blood work, but this time she was looking into my hormone levels ONLY because a cousin of mine is a nurse and she suggested I ask the Dr about that. Few days later(lastweek) that Dr calls and tells me my Cortisol level is very high, and wants me to do a 24hour urine test, which I will do a week or so before my follow up w/ her (April 1)So the Dr started me on a very high dosage of Vit D, 50,000 that I SHOULD take 2 x a week for 4 weeks. Im really not convinced in taking those pills. The very first time I TRIED them when this all started to happen, the very next day is when I suffered my first and really bad Vertigo problems. ALL of my Dr's said that wouldnt have done that and I was thinking the same UNTIL I took the second dose that following week and low n behold 24 hours later, I was back in the ER with vertigo again. So it took me 4 days to decided rather to TRY the Vit D high dose again, that was this past friday, Saturday(yesterday) I did feel a lil whoozy but I had to almost talk myself out of feeling that way AGAIN!  Ok so now today Sunday all day I have felt  strange, in a dream like state, here but not here kinda thing, novacaine feeling in my right arms face, lips and tounge. My daughter in law happend to stop by today, also a nurse, told her what was going on, she suggested I see a cardiologist, only because her dad has high blood pressure and has the exact same symptoms. SO right then and there I called to set up an appt with a Cardio and I will see that Dr tomorrow afternoon. My daughter in law said it sounds like maybe something is blocked. I also have to add that this has been going on since Dec 2012, now being a few months later and I have had time to really start to see when this starts happening alot or not. It DOES get worse, very noticiable around my monthly cycle. I would say up to 2 weeks ahead it actually coming I can feel things starting to get freaky. So with ALL of that said I will try to get on here tomorrow night and let you all know what the Cardiologist had to say.

Also I am thinking this MAY have something to do with a pinched nerve, Also notice it gets worse when I am in sitting posistion. When I am on the pc, my right hand goes numb to the point of tingling, I had my 13 yr old son step on my back last night, not with his total weight but just to press on there, and that wasnt a good idea. The tingling got a lil worse, so AFTER the cardiologist if that turns up clean, i am going to a chiropractor. I will not stop until I find out what the heck this is. There are TONS of postsEVERYWHERE with people with the same symptoms and MOST of them say their Dr says its anxiety, which I refuse to believe thats what it is -IN THE BEGINNING!, IT may turn to that because we are so scared and not knowing what this is,why etc....Ok goodnite all. Will be in touch soon.

This is where naturopathy comes in handy.  Doctors don't learn about every tiny little rare disease "as my doctor said" and naturopaths still send samples of saliva or hair samples or whatever to laboratories just like doctor's do for blood.  If the issue is not one of blood then we hit a dead end.  I think doctors and naturopaths both have a place in society for healing and both should be used.  Western doctors unfortunately treat illnesses and symtpoms but Chinese medicine also treats the causes of illnesses and symptoms.  That's my personal view anyway.

your right! I'm deff not giving up, nor throwing in the towel. There has got to be a reason for this. Just for it to come out of no where doesnt make sense to me. Someone did suggest accupunture to me. I'm telling you. I'll listen to anyone at this point. Never EVER went to Dr's, since Decemeber I cant tell you how many times I have been, Im the type that needs to know why!

The doctors told me that my numbness, hair loss, arm shaking more than any tremor, tension and aches in my legs and vomitting were all due to stress because I moved house.  I knew it wasn't but they didn't know what else to pin it on until a holistic doctor saw all my symptoms (I had many more than I just stated) and said "Oh, I know what you've got" and she sent me for the hair analysis and confirmed I had heavy metal poisoning.  So even if you see a doctor that is also holistic ... they are willing to see beyond the standard education and listen to the body ... and the patient.

I will look around for a good holistic Dr around my way. I'm telling you when this all first started, I had posted it on my facebook page and EVERY person that gave me advice remedies I tried them ALL. Not that I am a sucker, but having something happen to you out of no where i really mind twisting, to me anyway. I don't like it, its not normal. I need to get to the bottom of this ASAP! Getting ready to go see the cardiologist, will give you all an update soon.

Just an update to my previous post, I went to see a GP today. Her assessment (although inconclusive) thought the problem is probably due to a muscular issue from poor alignment. She noticed both sides of my neck were very uneven with my right side being significantly more relaxed than my left side, which is extremely stiff. She recommended I see both a chiropractor and neurologist.

I plan on going to a chiropractor ASAP. went to the Cardiologist yesterday, they hooked up a 24 hr heart monitor, the Dr said she doubts its anything to do wth the heart. but just to be safe they are doing the monitor, next week I have to do a stress test. This thrusday I go ack to the ENT to get the results of the audio-vng test. I am just thinking more and more that this really has to be a pinched nerve, since time has passed by and I am starting to relize exactly when this weirdness starts to happen, and how the feelings have slightly changed, my righ hand actually turns a different color-not drastic, and tingly-itchy like theres no circulation. Im TRYING and doing everything that I can to figure this out. Will keep you all updated.
