Strange feeling on the right side under the rib cage was experienced by many who participated in this discussion. This problem has not been fully 'deciphered.' However, several conditions have been named as possible causes.
The feeling was described by many as a bubble down below the right rib cage, which began as a 'pins and needles' sort of sensation, and is more prominent when sitting, particularly with bad posture. The 'bubble' feeling was also reported to come and go and is usually felt after eating a big meal (usually fatty foods) and sometimes relieved after urination.
The member who replied first reported having exactly the same thing - the annoying pain that feels like something is under his/her ribs. He/she also said having an ultrasound scheduled to check for gallstones, after finishing a course of acid reflux tablets. This member also said that he/she doesn't drink any alcohol which doctor suspected to be the possible reason for the abdominal tenderness. He/she also felt the need to burp to get rid of the ache.
Not sure if the lump was related to the gallstone or not?
Several other members reported or suspected gallstones as a possible cause of the strange feeling under the ribs. Some of them had their gallbladder removed which sorted out the problem. However, for others, the problem persisted even after gallbladder removal. For most participants in the discussion, diagnostic tests couldn't find anything wrong. One member said he/she had urine and blood tests, as well as an ultrasound and CT, which found he/she had a swollen tube going to my kidney and diverticulosis, which wouldn't contribute to the problem because it would affect the left side.
This member left the ER with a diagnosis of gastritis and was given a dose of Mylanta and a prescription of Prilosec to clear up this condition. Neither of the medications didn't help with the strange feeling under the rib. Along with it, this participant also developed diarrhea that lasted 2 weeks and got the diagnosis of viral infection along with gastritis on a follow-up appointment.
If this is the case, why am I still having this strange feeling?
Another participant with the same symptoms had an ultrasound which found 3 kidney stones. However, the kidney stones were not the problem related to the symptoms because they were very small and laying on the bottom of the kidney.
Several participants reported having acid reflux, few of them with a possibility of an ulcer. In this case, the acid suppressants worked healing the discomfort, though it occurred again.
I am overweight and I have often thought it could be a hernia. Is that a possibility?
Several participants indeed got a diagnosis of hernia that could be a possible culprit for the strange feeling under the right rib. Both diaphragmatic hernia and hiatal hernia were mentioned in the discussion.
One female participant suffered very similar symptoms. It turned out she had a form of endometriosis for over 12 years.
Other possible causes mentioned in the discussion include:
- excess gas
- diverticulitis
- IBS
- H. pylori bacteria infection
- slightly elevated lipase level (indicating a pancreas or gallbladder issue)
- lipoma, a benign mass of fat usually encapsulated, harmless, hereditary, and located in more than one place (so if you have one, you probably have more somewhere else)
- fatty liver, non-alcoholic
- an overworked digestive system causing inflammation
What do experts say?
Our stomach is divided into four quadrants. The right upper part of the abdomen, also known as the "right upper quadrant" (RUQ), contains many important organs, including liver (part of it), right kidney, gallbladder, pancreas, and large and small intestine.
The pain, discomfort or heaviness under the right rib cage may be a result of minor injuries or postural changes. However, sometimes it could be an indicator of a number of diseases or conditions affecting these organs.
Gastrointestinal causes of discomfort and pain under right rib cageGastrointestinal causes are the most common reasons for pain and discomfort under the right side of the rib cage.
Acid Reflux
Acid reflux is often a common culprit for pain and discomfort under the right rib cage. This is caused by regurgitation of food contents and reflux of acid into the food pipe. Besides pain in the chest and under the rib, the burning in the throat can also be present after eating food or when the stomach remains empty for long.
Ulcers
Peptic ulcers, particularly those affecting the duodenum, which is located on the right side, can cause similar pain and discomfort. Ulcers may require timely diagnosis and treatment to avoid further complications, such as perforation and abdominal bleeding.
Liver disorders
The liver is one of the vital organs located in the right side of the body below the rib cage. Many conditions affecting the liver can cause pain and discomfort in the area, such as:
- inflammation of the liver (hepatitis)
- enlargement of the liver (hepatomegaly)
- liver cirrhosis,
- fatty liver
- infections
- liver damage caused by toxins, drugs, and alcohol
Besides the pain under the rib cage in the right upper part of the abdomen, the associated gastric complaints may be present as well.
Gallbladder conditions
The gallbladder conditions, such as inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis) or gall stones (cholelithiasis) can cause the pain in the right upper part of the abdomen, under the right rib cage, which may even radiate to the right shoulder. The pain usually occurs after consumption of fatty food and may be accompanied by bloating, nausea and vomiting.
Pancreatitis
The inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, can cause pain in the right upper quadrant and below the rib. The pain from pancreatitis slowly worsens over time and may include additional symptoms such as:
- nausea
- vomiting
- fever
- increase in heart rate
Inflammatory Bowel Disorder (IBD)
The abdominal pain and discomfort under the right rib cage, accompanied by vomiting and altered bowel movements can be a sign of an inflammation of the gut caused by conditions like Crohn's disease or Ulcerative Colitis, which are known as IBD.
Other common causes of pain and discomfort under the right rib cageCertain disorders and conditions of the musculoskeletal system can cause pain under the right rib. These may include:
- Fractured ribs
- Costochondritis - an inflammation of the cartilage joining the ribs due to trauma or certain infections
- Osteoporosis
Kidney conditions such as kidney stones, a urinary tract infection (UTI), a kidney infection, or kidney cancer can lead to the pain and discomfort located under the rib on the right side.
Preeclampsia is a condition that typically occurs in women who are at least 20 weeks into their pregnancy. It causes a rise in blood pressure, but the pain in the right upper quadrant may occur as well.
A consumption of particular food items, imbalance of vitamins, shingles, build up of toxic ketone acids as in diabetic ketoacidosis, and many other conditions can also cause the pain and discomfort under the rib in the right upper quadrant.
Diagnosis of pain under right rib cage requires a thorough evaluation of medical history and physical examination, along with laboratory and imaging tests. The precise diagnosis will determine the course of the treatment.

Discussion highlights
What symptoms have been reported?
- I still have the tenderness, and feeling of something there under my rib along with a lump that doesnt hurt but like you said a very annoying feeling.
- Along with this strange feeling I've also had a bout of diarrhea for the past 2 weeks.
- In the beginning, it was like a 'pins and needles' sort of sensation.
- Hi I have exactly the same type of symptons, feels like there is something under my right rib I have terrible back/shoulder ache on the right side!
- It feels like there is a bubble or some mass under my ribs just below and to the left of my sternum, but I cannot feel it with my fingers.
- I notice it the most when I am bent over, slouching at all (like at the computer), or when I am reclining on my back reading.
- I can also feel my pulse in it when i am bent over, which creeps me out.
- But mine started after i got in an accedent and it hurts when i breath its a funny pressure but at times its super painfull.
- But when i look at it in the mirror it looks like my lower right ribs are bentand on my side theirs this funny lump and my sholder and back hurt and it almost feels like i broke a rib cuz when i breath its like someone is siting on my right rib.
- and it also feels like something is moving in the same area.
- not like a bubble.
- its feels big.
- kinda like a snake.
- Whenever I make certain movements, the side of my body starts to crack, as if my bones are moving inside of me.
- Feels like my bone is becoming misplaced, until I adjust my body, in order to move it back into place.
- This is a very severe pain that only goes away once I adjust my position.
- The pain is mostly on my right back side, going up and down my back.
- It feels like my ribs are overlapping eachother.
- When I raise up in bed, bend to tie shoes, etc.
- Uncomfortable painful feelingi have to hurry and straighten up to release it.
- I feel one rib going under the other.
- It is a discomfort that develops below the last rib on the left or right side.
- It usually got worse for me when I was sitting for a long time, or when I put on weight.
- Felt like something was poking in to my internal organs and I would massage the area but to no effect.
- I have knots on my ribs, but also a varying number of dime sized knots in the tissue covering my ribs - not in the skin, but deeper.
- I've had fairly constant pain with these this last week - one at the rib line is SO sore- feels like a boil.
- I, too, have Hoshimotos thyroid condition and this week, have had shooting pains from my collar bone up the right side of my neck - several tiny nodule-feeling places when I try to find out "what's hurting" so badly.
- But why do I have the discomfort on the right side why does it travel and why is it so uncomfortable.
- Sometime I cannot sleep as it is just uncomfortable.
- It does flare up when I am stressed but some days its notthere at all.
- It travels down to my pelvis and around my back.
- I have now had a slight discomfort under my right rib for 5 months.
- This time it wasn't just a sensation, it was pretty painful (at one point I thought it was appendicitis).
- It really felt like a serious injury (sharp pain), but it's gone now.
- I was slightly overweight (BMI 25) when I had it about 2 years ago, but back then it felt more like a "fist" underneath my ribs, which would turn into a cramp when I would bend down.
- I first got a sharp pain when bending forward quickly under rib area on my right side 5 years ago.
- Same symptoms under the rib pressure, radiating pain in the back.
- I can feel my pulse in the rib area like something is restricted.
- 33 male :( I've been going through hell with this feeling under my right rib / right flank area for exactly a year now.
- 4 months after quitting while at work one day I suddenly felt this discomfort under my right ribs when bending over .
- I prodded the c**p out of my rib/abdomen area feeling for a lump but all that seemed to do was cause pain and no discovery of anything .
- I also have this nagging feeling in my right flank.
- feels like a tight muscle .
- when lying down on my tummy it feels as if my lowest right side rib is too far forward.
- I also had a similar pain underneath my right rib and I could feel it most when I would bend over.
- I also had intense back pain and this has lasted for many years.
- At one point after drinking a good bit of it I felt a queasy feeling on my right side and almost felt nauseated .
- I have the same thing when I bend at the waist, it feels like a balloon is blowing up really quickly.
- Doesn't hurt, just feels like it is blowing up inside of me.
- These are very similar to symptoms that I have suffered (still have the lump under ribs with pain) but the other symptoms cleared up after I went gluten free.
- mine is on the right side and used to start moving?
- when ii bent over and i could stand up straight until it had finished moving?
- but now its happening a lot more often and getting annoying.
- it does hurt me , similar to bad indigestion pain :( the lump goes away after a while, till next time,I also have put on weight after having a Tumor and ovary removed a year ago.
- I have some hypermobility, that causes these problems in the first place.
- My symptoms where a feeling of pressure, like a bubble, under my left side ribs.
- Sometimes I could feel something soft moving where my ribs end, like the bubble would have moved little right from under my ribs when I inhaled and back under when my ribcage squeezed back.
- A little pain sometimes, but mostly just the feeling of pressure.
- I have had a sensation of something under my right rib, I can only describe it as a hardness.
- With a feeling of numbness, for a few months now.
- At times it also feels scratchy, and it moves around.
- I am always uncomfortable and constantly readjusting my position trying to relieve this feeling.
- Recently it has begun wrapping pain around to my shoulders and back.
- I have had this (i wouldnt call it pain but rather an uncomfortable pressure under my right rib) for about 3 years now.
- But, 6 months ago this irritating pressure returned.
- It feels like something is popping out of my right side, just beneath my rib cage and not only is it painful, it's bizarre!
- I started working out today and the strange sensation is back.
- When I bend over I get this pain in my stomach below my right ribs, I have to lie back and try and arch my back for this thing to flop back into place, it hurts and freaks me out.
- I can feel its slide and kinda flop, its very unpleasant.
- Its about 4+ finger widths under my right lower rib, I know the prednisone effected my liver once before and I was on methortrexate which made me sick in different ways,
- When I sit at the computer, bend over, or sometimes even when standing it feels like there is an extra "mass" under and behind my lowest left rib.
- I too have shoulder pain but didn't associate it until now.
- It scared me because when I bend it feels like it is licking into another organ and I quickly get up an wriggle a bit to get it out.
- Can't physically touch it but I can totally feel it in me.
- Right under my right rib about an inch to the right of the centre.
- Tightens up like a knot and feels like its protruding out.
- Moves upward.
- I have a pain which feels likes its where my rights side of my Large Intestine & this occurred when i was forced to bend over by laughing hard (not very severely) but all of a sudden my lower right side of my rib squeezed something or popped something & now i feel a bit warmer in that area all of a sudden & im becoming breathless like if i have internal bleeding because of it.
- i have an ultrasound booked for 23rd of this month to check for gallstones.the pain is more annoying than anything and feels like something is under my ribs.i have just had a course of acid reflux tablets that have got rid of the acid(up to yet ,4 days left)it feels like i could scoop deep under my right ribs to get it out.the doctor i saw today examined me and i felt tenderness where he was prodding about,he also asked if i drink lots of alcohol which i dont have any.its worrying me to death.i feel like i need to burp to get rid of the ache.so you arnt alone and when i do the scan i will post back and let you know whats happening.x 4 now
- I have this lump (although I can't feel it) that when I sit down pushes up under my right rib.
- Some times it feels bigger than other times, I am so confused that my mind gets into a spin.
- I worry about it being serious but it does go down at times and then at other times reappears.
- It started as just a feeling of something just below my right rib, but as of last night, it has become tender to the touch.
- It feels like it is bigger now, but yet I can not visibly see it from the outside of my body.
- I can feel it the most when I am sitting down or bending over.
- I also have pain if I press on the spot, plus pain along the right side and sometimes pain in my back.
- Then after a couple of weeks pain-free, the pain and the feeling of something there came back again.
- The pain gets worse, especially in my side and back, when I walk or do housework.
- The feeling of something under my ribs comes and goes and it's tender to touch.
- I am scared stiff of hospitals so I will have to really feel that its time to do something about it before I go in.I have no pain but still feel it pushing under my right rib.
- Sometimes it feels bigger than others.
- I have decided not to worry about it at the moment, I dont get pain just the feeling of a lump or something pushing up under my ribs.
- it's most certainly frustrating and annoying-but mine really, really hurts when it flares up-and that's what it does-flare.
- I, too, for years, have been getting the painful lump in the bottom of my ribs, right side.
- Mine come and goes (but I can't figure out what brings it on or makes it go away).
- I get a really painful, dull ache that goes from the inside of my bottom ribs, around the waist, to the back.
- In my back, it radiates up to my mid-back, even to the shoulder blade.
- I feel like I have a rib out, and it needs to be 'popped' up.
- Plus, I can actually feel my rib catching on/bumping something, when I twist at the waist or move wrong.
- It really, really hurts.
- the area right above the bad part feels bruise, also.
- I have this same feeling under my right rib cage and a dull pain at times in the same area on my back.
- Because I too have had a couple of what I think is charlie horses in the upper right quadrant, the last one was three weeks ago prior to Zumba during a stretch and from that point on this weird low grade pain in the right upper quadrant and weird moving sensation at my lower rib has not ceased to happen.
- Also when I bend or sit it feels as though it is pushing on my lower ribs.
- I have belly fat or bloat even above my navel, not uncommon for someone in my advanced years, but is it due to fatty liver, which can be reversed, or is it something more serious?
- I registered now Also standing only for a few minutes I feel clammy sweaty and nauseous. ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
- I have had this bother me before but this week with the virus has been bad.
- When I stand up for just a few minutes I start shaking inside (like when you feel you are gonna throw up), then I feel clammy.
- After laying down for a few minutes that calms down.
- For the past few months I have had a feeling of something under my right rib when I bend over or sit down.
- I cannot feel anything there when palpating the area but feel like something is there when I sit or bend over.
- Also right shoulder area is aching.
- I believe from the same issue.
- However now I feel like there is something bigger under my ribs on the right side.
- It started off about 5 years ago, just under the right ribs, a little right of the solar plexus (soft central spot under the ribs).
- Then a feeling like a bubble which I would find myself pushing at with my finger.
- Five years later, I feel this discomfort, especially during times of stress or after eating fatty foods.
- I've also noticed I have diahorea at times, often I get a pain at the bottom of the abdomen and I just have to 'go'.
- I keep getting a cramp like feeling every now and again as well by my ribs - anyone have any ideas?
- Hello, I have had the same feeling in my chest, but under my left side.
- I have had this feeling for 6-8 months.
- It is annoying, but not at all painful.
- So I guess, whenever I am compressing that area of my chest by curling my mid/upper back.
- It also seems to worsen when I have a full stomach, leading me to believe more that there is a physical object there that is reacting to the compression of my stomach wall and pressing against adjacent tissue.
- When I breathe while reclining on my back after I eat dinner, I can feel a subtle pop every time I exhale, again like it is reacting this time to my lungs being full.
- One other thing I have had in the same area since I was around 18, is a strange numbness on the surface of my skin.
- I cannot tell if it is completely dead to feeling, it just feels like a numb spot about 3" in diameter, but it is definitely weird.
- I get the "painful" bulge under my right rib sometimes when I bend over "hard" like to shave my legs, etc.
- After having my gall bladder removed the problem dissapeared but is back now with a vengeance, especially if i bend down or stretch out on the couch etc.
- It started as an uncomfortable feeling/light numbness on the right bottom of my chest, somewhere about underneath the right lowest rib.
- It's gradually becoming worse and for about one year now, I too feel as if there is something under my skin at that area.
- Now it feels more like it's even under the ribs.
- Something like a bubble, as someone posted above.
- A soft small bubble which feels bigger and harder everytime I get it.
- That spot constantly feels weird and uncomfortable but when I bend my upper body, like to tie my shoes etc., it hurts really bad.
- It feels like the worst cramp.
- And this kind of "bubble" thing that I feel in there gets all big and hard and I have to immediately straighten my body and stay still while pushing this thing down hard, in order for it to ease up.
- When it eases up, usually after a few seconds, it feels as if the air in this "air-filled bubble" goes away and the thing gets pulled back inside between the two lowest ribs.
- So I had stomach pains for abt 8 months on and off.
- So I never mentioned it but when I would bend down for a minute or so and then come back up it was like something was moving back in to place.
- Depending on intensity, it can take my breath away and make me dizzy, and make me sore for hours afterwards.
- It feels like it pushes on my lungs.
- The bulge still protrudes in the same area, but the hardness and pain intensity now goes up between my rib cage and sometimes mid-belly.
- Since then it has gotten progressively worse and is very painful.
- It was hard, but didn't hurt.
- About 7 years ago when working out at the gym, I had a bulge that came out right below my right rib cage.
- worse when I sit at the computer, or just sit for a long period of time.
- some days it feels like a muscle pull.
- but then that bubble or "thing" feels like it there.
- Some days are worse than others.
- I feel the palpatation under the ribs on my right hand side just now as I write.
- I have a feeling like a bubble down below my right rib cage.
- I notice it especially when I'm sitting, particularly with bad posture.
- This bubble does seem to come and go.
- I usually feel it more after I've eaten a big meal and sometimes it goes away after I take a leak.I also have the muscle tension in between my shoulder blades and it's just on the right side so I think it's related.
- I've had this muscle tension for a long time already, maybe two or three years but it seems worse lately.
- I guess I did have pain once or twice recently but it wasn't very bad and it wasn't after eating fatty foods either.
- I feel like there is a fist up under my right rib cage.
- Mine started about 3 years ago as a dull ache under my right rib cage that eventually became a strip/mass that I could feel along with terrible indigestion and bloating.
- I couldn't sit for long periods of time and when I bent over (tying shoes, etc.) it felt like something was folding just below my ribs and getting stuck.
- It has been going on for years, when I bemd over it feels like something pops out of my ribs and I have to wiggle around to get it to go back.
- It id painful in that area for a fee days after it happens :/ I have an appt in a couple days
- It wraps around my back and sometimes into my lower pelvis.
- Feels like pressure, not pain.
- 3 days ago i also got this phantom discomfort under my right rib.
- I don't get any pain just this lump.
- I have finally come to the conclusion that it feels like a Charlie horse right under my right ribs when i bend over!
- The dull ache that i have all the time goes to my right side.
- It almost feels like something moving around in there, weird.
- It really hurts for like a minute or so.
- Like if i strain in the bathroom, all of a sudden it tightens like a leg cramp and i feel it tightening like a knot.
- Yes but sometimes it really is painful.
- Every time I bend over to tie my shoe, pick up something on the floor, etc.
- the bulge will protrude.
- I've felt pressure (I wouldn't call it pain) on my lower to mid right abdomen.
- I feel like I have an alien living inside me that moves and gets stuck under my right rib especially after eating.
- I am overweight and if I go over a certain weight it stirs it up and I have the problems all report with discomfort, pressure and a feeling something is bulging or pressing under my ribs with bloating and tightness.
- I usually am able to settle it by going on a stricter diet and dropping a couple of kgs which is hard having a Metabolic problem, however it does settle down and can go away until I get careless and put on the extra weight again.
- In the past I have had mid back pain especially when walking which is caused from the liver swelling.
- Bend over and something gets stuck.
- I have to straighten up fast to get it unstuck.
- I have a chronic "ache," I guess you could say, on my right side.
- I think it just feels more "alien," as someone else put it, and it travels.
- It doesn't really hurt, it just feels like something is remiss.
- it is usually just below my ribs on either the front or back side of my body.
- i very often have a gut discomfort feeling due to pressure i mostly put on myself.
- i used to think i get this feeling out of toxic gas i used to inhale in my work.
- not hurting, just very discomforting.i'd like to start trying to collect data from everyone who's willing to, in order to find a pattern.
- This all started for me with a feeling in my lower right side, like when I flex my right oblique muscle.
- Within the last year, I also have a slight burning/swelling just to the right of my sternum, and maybe an inch down.
- It feels "prickly" when irritated, a bit tender, and really annoying.
- It usually doesn't hurt, but a couple of weeks ago, I got about 7-8 sharp stabbing pains when I tried to inhale.
- In October 2012, I began to feel uncomfortable while sitting-- under and behind my right lower rib.
- I went to the doctor for the flu and told them of my symptoms which besides the uncomfortable feeling included a pain in the middle of my back on the right side and sometimes radiating up to my right shoulder blade.
- I was very uncomfortable laying on my left side - felt like something pushing on my side.
- pain on the upper right side under rib when bending over.
- I have a weird feeling under my right side that feels like an organ is moving.
- If I press on my ribcage it is now tender.
- when I had problems with my gall bladder it was a pain in the center of my stomach like bad heart burn then I started throwing up.
- Now I get a sharp in my side below the ribs.
- it;s there the whole time I am bent over and for a few minutes after I get out of the bending position, Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be?
- Mine contracts like a muscle spasm/charlie horse.
- It is very frustrating though when I need to bend over and then I feel like I am paralized with pain for 2-3 minutes.
- So mine is on both sides.
- I also get the same feeling on my left side if I bend over or twist my left side.
- Hi, I have had something rolling over my ribcage just as you stated, and I quickly push it back in place.
- I don't know if any are still suffering from this but it most definately could be phantom nerve/back pain causing the symptoms of the stomach pain, this has been concurrent with me for a number of years, had ultrasounds and blood tests and urine samples but when I went to a massage therapist, osteopath and physical therapists through my years of travelling and working I have found every time that it relieves this intermittent dull uncomfortable pain, I rarely drink alcohol and I am the opposite to inactive now, but I realised I don't drink anywhere near enough the water our body requires everyday which I have realised contributes to it too.
- If i go to sleep and start breathing full and relax the area, "eventually" it feels like my kindey area is breathing bubbles and it palpitates and it gets less swallen, its almost like there is air trapped inside, also, bending for a while makes it alot worst, please reply i really need to get in contact with you if possible.
- Something pushes under my right rib and l cant breathe.
- I hold if until it moves.
- But the weird feeling that used to feel like a small ball rolling under the ribs has become more of feeling a lump when I bend over.
- I have had this same feeling and feel full even after eating a small meal for a couple of years.
- In pain when I overeat (I have to lay down to rest).
- I too only feel this pain when I reach down to tie my shoes.
- I normally feel it on my left side just below my rib cage and I too have to sit up straight or stand up quickly to make the pain go away.
- When I bend over acutely to do something from a seated position I get a terrible muscle cramping feeling under my left rib cage, almost like a charli horse.
- And it feels like it hardens up like a rock and then slowly relaxes.
- Although here I am again, I gave the dog a bath while sitting in a chair and was really bent over in the chair and then bam it struck that intense cramp pain that feels like it gets as hard a rock.
- It has continued to stay sore and Ive contemplated going back to the dr but I feel like they will think I'm crazy.
- It is so uncomfortable I am not able to wear anything constrictive near the area.
- I have also felt the sensation of something popping out under my ribs when I bend over.
- The pain is tolerable yet very annoying.
- The numbness is troubling it is so hard to explain to someone that hasn't experienced it.
- It started with like a pin and needle sensation by my right breast and then I had dreadful swelling.
- So sore too as if something is rubbing against my rib and when my abdomen swells I can feel a little lump which is sooo tender and sore!
- but still get where I have to go to the loo all of a sudden and my stools have been loose for well over a year now.
- not really loose, but thinner and the smell is not pleasant.
- Speaking of morning, that is when the pain hurts the most.
- I, like many others, am feeling a irrititable sensation when I sit down or bend over.
- It is right under my lowest rib cage on the right side.
- My symptoms are: Shortness of breath(sometimes) Mild pain under my lower right rib This pain started about 5 days ago and has lowered in pain over the past few days.
- But the mild pain is still apparent.
- Its so uncomfortable and causes pain every time I bend over because it seems that something moves outa place and it hurts but when I stand up it goes back into place and then the pain stops but it stays uncomfortable.
- Yes its causing me to gain weight but it started before I was heavy.
- (I am not over weight) it literaly looks like I am pregnant but I am not (they say) my stomach keeps bloating, I have been gaining weight rapidly for the past couple mths and the drs still don't have an answer.
- also i get kidney stones ALOT and i have that same pain and one thing i have found is if they r small docs always say tht cant b the prob cuz thy smal and dont hurt well from experience they r wrong ive had multiple stone n both kidneys at same time n no matter how bog or small they ALWAYS hurt .
- And lately when I bend over the wrong way the pain is really bad and I have to stretch until it feels like whatever this is goes back into place!
- My symptoms started on Thanksgiving of last year and continue to get worse.
- My pain seems to come worse after periods of heavy stress and when I bend over, like when working on a puzzle at the kitchen table or at my work desk typing, like I am now.
- I can feel a hardness under my rib case but lower, close to the bellybutton.
- Unlike some of you, I can feel mine more concretely.
- It worsens when I really poke at it.
- but it's like a scab, you are compelled to it.
- I also feel it when I walk or move something/carry something with my right arm.
- I've had the same issue for many years -- pain and mucles cramps right side ribs, when sitting or bending over or down.
- When I bend or sit or carry heavy things the right side ribs hurt and muscles cramp.
- Just happens when I bend over in certain positions.
- Mostly getting in and out of bathtub.
- I have found that if I firmly hold the lower one down before I have to bend, it helps.
- Sometimes they seem to get stuck in that position.
- very uncomfortable.
- When I bend forward, it seems as though the lower ribs on my right side overlap.
- Feeling as if something is stuck pushing up under my ribs on the right side.
- I also have right shoulder pain.
- Pain on right side of abdomen with a seizing feeling.
- Pain would sometimes shoot through right arm, up my neck, into my ear or down my leg.
- All right sided.
- Couldn't sit, couldn't lay down.
- Husband would massage right side, but these attacks could last for hours.
- I lost 22 pounds as a result of not wanting to put anything in my stomach as that seemed to make it worse.
- At times the pain would come on for no apparent reason.
- I noticed the attacks starting the 5 dys.
- before my period, the 5 dys.
- during and the 5 dys.
- after.
- Since the first attack, I have been rushed via ambulance 3 other times as the pain is unbearable.
- Now, this past Friday, 12/5/14 they started up again, with my worst night Sat.
- up all night.
- I should also say, that in the beginning of my episodes I always had the need to bear down.
- As if to push out whatever ws stuck.
- Something pops out under my right rib hurts so bad I could scream.
- Lately since I have this new job sitting for 8 hours straight it is starting to pop out 1-2 times a weeks for as long as 15 minutes!
- Not constant, rather dull but noticeable.
- No bulges, lumps or anything else.
- Feels like a heavy area, cannot bend over because I feel like my ribs are curling and have pain in that area when I stand back up.
- I started getting like this and now it is a terrible feeling in my side.
- Just like you, if I bend over a certain way or too far, I feel as if some kind of floating mass gets caught up in my bottom ribs on the lower right side.
- It not only hurts, but I cannot stand up.
- I have to contort my way around sideways while pressing in on what is popping out between my ribs, and it goes back to normal within a minute or two.
- A few years ago, I found a lump in my neck and was terrified that all the immunosuppressive drugs I had taken for my lupus had caused me to develop leukemia or another blood-related cancer that is a risk when you take those drugs.
- You can literally see it poking through my clothes.
- I have had pain under right rib cage that can lead to spasms or cramp especially if I bend over on the right side.
- I have had all the scans, blood tests, endoscopy and what the found was a rather strange looking hernia that they think I must have had from birth so they don't believe this to cause my pain, I do drink alcohol at the weekends but It still happens even if I stop.
- Yes, it's like bending over triggers it.
- it hurts and bulges and takes a minute or two to go away.
- It gets your attention and you have no other way to get rid of it but to stop bending and stand up.
- I can actually see the bulge in the mirror when it's happening.
- It hurts a lot.
- I've been going through the some simulator problems for about a year and a half I've been to four different hospital er everybody said the smart thing ,I've had all tests done all the way to staying at a heart hospital but just recently I been experiencing major nausea feels like I want to vomit but can't,now that's strange. This is starting to annoy me,if their anyone experiencing the symptoms help me please.
- that made a boil come up on my inner thigh and the pain left my right side now, the boil has collected the poison most likely coming from my liver or pancreas and when it discharges i hope to be all well again.
- Basically I have tenderness at bottom of ribs on right side, painful spot on back of ribs on right side and pain in hip on right side.
- Can't lie on that side when sleeping as feels like I'm lying on something.
- Whenever I go to bend over and twist something or strain in anyway I get I big "Air filled bubble" on my right side and by my ribs, and the only way to fix it is by standing up straight and breathing with my hands over my head.
- And when I lift my arms it shows where the "knot ' shows and when I breath in and out I could feel It ache a little it's annoying me and my husband both have this problem also my right shoulder.
- My pain is intense.
- I can see the bulge and push on it and have to straighten up.
- as bending over to tie shoes brings it on.
- it really hurts.
- for me a "10" while it is bulged.
- like a huge knot like bulge that happens when I get the pain in the middle to the right near the sternum and rib.
- It is for me.
- If I laugh, cough or am in any weird position it brings it on.
- and it is debilitating.
- when I bend over to tie a shoe, pick something up and especially if I am slightly twisting during the bend it feels like I have a muscle or something jammed up under my left rib cage (like its stuck or something) then I have to stand up stretch to work the pain out and stretch whatever it was that was stuck out to get back to normal it is extremely painful and happens all the time.
- I have had the pain that feels like something gets hooked on my lower rib cage for 40 years.
- It mainly happened when I bend down from a seat position.
- I have always been able to lay flat on my back and I can feel it fall back into place.
- This morning Every time I tried to get up it would catch again.
- Baby rolls across your stomach and slides that foot right under right rib and you have to push it down until they move (I am 50 and tubes tied) so no change of pregnancy already went through menopause.
- Anyway this one has been the worse ever.
- If I eat within minutes it feels really tight in my stomach and my breathing is so tight.
- a baby moving !
- yes I agree that is exactly what it feels like !
- Feels like something is swollen up just below the right rib cage.
- Occasionally I get a back ach directly behind the same area.
- Mine sometimes feels like a Charlie horse as well.
- When we over stretch this area it's the muscles that push on this rib and causes the bulge/lump so once the muscle settles down so will the pain I find aleve/naproxen works well for both symptoms.
- I'll get pain and a bulge under right side of rib when staining eg bending over or pulling something while bending.
- The pain is minimal but the Charlie horse feeling is a weird feeling.
- I have the same feeling like it's a Charlie horse under my right ribs when I bend over too.
- (I get this when bending over, e.g.
- tying shoes)
- I feel its like a hernia the way it spasms and get hard and ball shaped.
- It acts up if I bend over, lean forward, and sometimes just sitting up in a chair.
- It can get painful as it happens so often every day.
- I also have a lump that pops out under my right rib cage not painful but uncomfortable until I wriggle and to goes back where it belongs until it happens again.
- I personally would say it feels more like a form of inflammation, under or on the skin or lining, on-top of "something", within or around the ribcage.
- Wow me too I bend over and feel like something is inside right-side just to the front upper abdomen under rib.
- I sit down and can feel it had an ultrasound and they said no at ones x sometimes it aches and it is worrying me xxx
- It feels like spasms/palpitations on my right side in line with my belly button but a few inches to the right between my hip and ribs.
- It's not painful just a very weird and uncomfortable feeling.
- It almost feels like someones poking me or like a there's a big hard knot or bubble (I can't physically feel anything though like a lump) or almost like a baby kicking (not pregnant) It started last month but has got worse now it seemed to happen a few times a day but it's getting more constant.
- I had given up drinking milk about a week before I started to get this weird feeling when I bent over.
- I also get bouts of diarrhea and fatigue.
- It makes my back burn.
- Hurts to move and at times feels like a ball under the ribs or a constant stitch in the ribs feeling on the right side.
- It's a terrible pressure like feeling.
- I also gave the "bubble feeling's and bending over also cramps and like an organ is sittig on another.
- Cramps onrrightright side under ribs.
- It's like if I sit bend or move a certain way it feels like something pops out on top of my right side of my ribs and I have to like push it back down.
- Whenever I bend down something (like liquid or gas) flows inside the skin from upper right ribs down to the bally cavity.
- Mines similar but it feels like it's in between the flesh and the rib .
- and feel it move when I move a certain way.
- Feeling of like a elbow under my rib cage.
- Once i started recovering I noticed everytime I bend over my inner right rib feels like it cramps up and hurts badly.
- I can actually feel a movable lump that goes in and out of my right rib area, but I'm very thin.
- It's painful and scary when it happens.
- Years ago, I got a sharp pain under the bottom of my left rib when bending over to put on stockings.
- Over the years, on occasion when I bend down to put on socks and shoes I get the sharp pain again.
- While driving the other day, I felt like maybe my bra was too tight and pressing on my ribs so I thought that was the answer.
- Today I'm going bra-less and bent over slightly to go thru stuff in a box and got that sharp pain again.
- Most of the time I'm okay but bending down triggers the pain.
- I have the same feeling like a "fist size" of pressure under my lower right rib cage.
- She said I have a long rib cage and that's prob what happens, I bend over and something slips under my ribs and hurts, then it fades after awhile, like when little and would bend over back of a chair!
- we human being all are suffering from different diseases but some are the same,i am experiencing with the same problem in side my right hand ribs ,doesn't pain any more but feel like a something sponj or smooth item like especially when i bend or sleep aside Who can help us?
- I felt as though I was pregnant it's only way to describe it I wasn't as I would rather be having a kid at 42then this it always hurts moves around pushes pullls makes like unbearable.I had a cat scan few weeks ago they found a mass on my liver I was sorta relieved.
- I have been having pain in my rib area, left side, when bending over to tie shoe laces.
- It started about a month ago, I noticed when I tied my shoes that something was not right in my rib area, right side.
- Since I got this in my right rib area I have noticed I get gasey if I eat the slightest thing.
- I have started getting diarehia and usually have to go to the bathroom immediately after eating.
- My stomach has also expanded.
- Hello all, I too have had the same issues with the pressure/ bubble under my right rib cage.
- When I go to sit up and feels like an organ is getting caught on one of my ribs right below my diaphragm in the middle but left side there is no pain it just feels really strange and I have to slowly go back down position and try to get up again differently.
- Tonight I was brushing my teeth and while bending over I gagged a little bit and the pain got severely sharp, it almost felt like I split something open.
- Now I am having repeat tingling sensations in that area.
- Hi, I was in my car driving and dropped a lit cigarette and was bending down trying to get it and I had this before and something very hard comes out like a snake body or a wrist of a child maybe, and it hurts, just below the upper front right rib cage, maybe 3 inches or so from the solar plex, I usually lay down to straighten myself out but As I was driving I could only push it back it with short jabs.
- Hi Ken, mine is something that protrudes out from under the upper right rib cage and is very hard and I have to get it back in;
- it happens when bending or straining while bending.
- I have been unable to get a picture of it but it feels like a pipe or a hard bone of some sort.
- Generally, it stays on the mid-right-lower ribs area, this is like a knotted muscle, sometimes it can be felt a bit moved up-rib or even to my back.
- I had severe bronchitis 4 years ago with violent (even bloody) coughing that felt like hurting very much my chest muscles and my back as well.
- Before that, i used to lifting and moving heavy objects, I remember once I was very concerned since my mid torso suddenly felt numb and like there was a blob/glob of some very uncomfortable thing that didn't go away and making me feel something was wrong like my front body had become a rubbery plank.
- That gradually receded though never disappear.
- It stays now in the center-right-lowery rib area.
- When i do exercise this 'knotted' feeling sometimes felt like moved a bit up or even to the back.
- The pain is so bad that I have to do Lamaze breathing to deal with it.
- I can feel the bulge and have to lay on my back and arch for it to stop, and even then takes a good few minutes sometimes.
- HI, when this thing pops out it is about the length of 4-5 inches wide and an inch vertical, like a piece of pipe and it hurts like ****.
- I have to lie down to make it go back in.
- I've been wanting to take a picture but the pain is so excruciating I can't get my camera out and the first reaction is to put it back in.
- approx.
- 4 inches from my solar plex to the right below my upper right rib cage.
- It's not exactly painful but it's an uncomfortable feeling.
- You can see the movement when it works pops back in.
- but then my other experienced was when i tried to get curl ups(exercise)i try ti bend my body up and this pain started again.
- The best way to describe it is it feels like a Charlie Horse pain on the right side under my right rib if I turn my upper body to the right or bend over.
- It also feels like something is bulging out when it happens !
- I had this same feeling of a bubble and would try pushing at it with my fingers or scratch at it.
- The discomfort feeling of some sort of mass or bubble has returned.
- I assumed hernia, hurt to touch and below liver.
- 3 year before being diagnosed celliac I noticed golfball shaped , muscle like mass potruding out under lower right rib.
- I have been experiencing the same pain for over 8 Months now and its too the point where its intolerable.
- At first the pain was more of a discomfort and annoyance than anything , but now about 8 Months into its its almost unbearable at times.I have recently changed Doctors due to the first Doc seemingly at a loss.
- This pain at times is so intense that I can hardly function.
- or whatever it is, goes away, which I find strange because is feels so big, but it comes back.
- It just feels like a HUGE knot.
- I have the worst heartburn/indigestion a LOT!
- The know itself.
- I feel it now.
- I did not feel it all day today and now it's back.
- I just feel like it's a big "something" that needs to move when it's there.
- Whenever I'm at the computer (sorta slouched over) I feel a bubble like sensation directly under my bottom right rib.
- Even laying in bed on my stomach I swear I feel a slight lump but can never feel anything with my hands.
- It's not exactly "painful" but extremely annoying.
- It also brings on anxiety at times which sucks so bad.
- I have to literally stretch out until I feel whatever it is pop out.
- It stops me in my tracks, it is very painful!
- Any pressure on my right side causes a feeling of breathlessness.
- It's a very strange feeling and I get somewhat nauseous.
- I also have a ton of heartburn all the time and can only take Zantac because of the heart meds.
- I have endometriosis but only used to get this pain under my rids when I had sat not straight for a while but been getting this pain more recently now tbh and becoming very uncomfortable.
- Hi, I have this too very badly a and it catches my breath.
- Sometimes only when I yawn or bend over, etc.
- and this small pipe type thing protrudes and I have to either lay down or stretch until it goes back in.
- In reading your message I too have heartburn and only Zantac works for me and also I have gallstones.
- Feels like something pops under my ribs when I lean over and it pops back out when I stand up.
- I've had 2 csections but I am curious about the feeling of a cramp popping out from under my rib cage so sounds similar.
- Last week there was pain made worse by movemnt in the area that lasted for an hour or so then as quickly as it came it went.
- Often discomfort is felt more in the morning then nothing later in the day.
- Initially it started a fluttering sensation in the area that would come and go over 8 months
- Lately I have been coughing badly from colds and this weird muscle knotty feelings sometimes moves up to the middle of the chest and when I have cramps on my back I can feel I can stimulate the same effects on my other side of torso (the left side).
- Tightening of chest along with shortness of breath though.
- Same it hurts odee it's been happening to me like I'm ribs or deeper then that hurts when I bend down and I noticed while I was singing and used every bit of breath left in me it started hurting for like 2 seconds again
- I just found this site and so good to hear others have similar issues with this "catch" type discomfort on right side.
- I have this feeling of something "catching" and dull soreness on right side of body, feels like lower rib rubbing something.
- Well, that's about what it feels like now, but worse, and its starting to spread slightly.
- Eventually it progressed to a slight aching numbness whenever I would bend forward.
- I fist noticed it when I bent over in the shower to wash shampoo out of my hair a few years ago and it kept doing it like a stabbing pain but now I am aware of it all the time mainly when I'm sat but could feel it lead down last nights get.
- Hi I'm experiencing the same it's like something if holding the bottom of my ribs.
- fist started when i bend over then lately if i sneeze or coff is getting consecutively but no pain just feeling something move up and then i have to pusshed it down so i be on its place but now when i snezee or coff it just go down by itself and quickly im ssuper concern
- It's been happening now for years, If i bend over forward, and stay down for more than a couple seconds, something under my right rib "catches" and it sends me into a 10 out of 10 gasping pain!
- I usually feel nauseous for a couple hours afterwards, and the pain quickly changes in to a dull semi-burning ache.
- I also burp a lot, which is bothersome, not sure if anyone else also has this issue.
- I feel like something inside of me is turning inside out, causing the horrific pain, and when i stand up it feels like it turns itself back the correct way.
- I was in the middle of we'll i sure u can figure what i saying but out of no where i felt this pop that sent this pain so bad i couldn't move at all & it got worse as days turned to weeks & now months it didn't matter wht i did it just hurt so bad then i started feeling something there from the (R) lower from midway to the side of my rib just wasn't sure wht it could b i had only xray done so far it came back Clear & the meds we'll they helped a little & now since my last visit to the doc it hasn't gotten better so now they want 2 do an MRI so im wanting to have that done but for now i have to put up with this annoying thing.
- Yes that alien living in me is the feeling and if I bend it is like it moves.
- It seems like my rib or something on top pops out and u can actually see the lump.
- I have been having a mysterious lump hit me in the ribs either right below breast bone or slightly to the right of that first happened when tying my shoes 3 months ago.
- Feels like my ribs come crashing down on a babies head, but I am not pregnant.
- The thing that pops out happens irregularly maybe every other week to once a month.
- One thing I didn't see others mention is that my spouse can't put his arm around me on my waist (right side) when we are both lying on our side it increases the pressure to be painful and gives me terrible heartburn.
- this muscle spasm like moving thing occurred a ew days after coming out the hospital.
- I feeling a burning cutting pain now, for 1 week in the upper right area.
- I had ultrasound & its normal stillin horrific pain.
- Went 2 urgent care bc it hurts so bad.
- Then y am i in sooooooo much pain she doesn't know and tell me 2 go to er.
- after bending over I will randomly get this acute muscle spasm on top of my right rib cage towards the center of my chest.
- The muscle bunches up in a knot then slowly relaxes.
- That area will remain sore for a day or two.
- This last time the pain has remained constant and it's been a week.
- I have had the same tingling, balloon like oressure under my right rib for a month.
- Sometimes it radiates to my right upper back.
- It goes away after a few minutes, but I can't move until it subsides.
- If feel like an organ is "caught" under a rib cage, or the rib cage needs to be "repositioned" on top of he spine.
- For the first time last night, I was adjusting the back pillow in bed, so I could lean against the headboard when it happened, but this time the pain didn't subside.
- I couldn't move, I had to stay in a 45 degree angle until it slowly "uncramped" but it's more than a cramp or charlie horse, it's like something shifts.
- My feeling of something getting "stuck" under my rib cage in the exact spot you mentioned--it's not constipation or related to medication.
- There were no residual muscle pains after it subsided until yesterday when it happened while laying in bed and just trying to adjust a pillow behind my back.
- That sudden "caught" feeling- was so severe, I had to stop breathing, arch backward and remain that way for 10 minutes, and every time I thought it was over, it started again.
- I had gained weight, felt bloated and couldn't eat a lot.
- Then a few years ago I had a soft, movable lump form on my right rib cage.
- Two years later, I have again the weight gain with very little food, bloating, pain in my entire chest cavity, especially under the heart notch.
- Burning sensation with tightness is common.
- I have to slowly move it out, and I can literally feel my insides 'move' out from under my ribs.
- It literally feels like my organs are getting stuck under my ribcage, usually if I sit up too fast from laying flat or bend over too far too quickly.
- It hurts.
- Hi im not sure if its same but a few times when im bending over i get a cramping under my bust on my rib that makes stand up i have to rub it til it goes away and it makes breathing hard, and tge other day after my run i did situps and it happened again but both sides and it wouldn't go away kept coming back i ended up pushing it in which helped my breathing you can see it stuck up as though my muscle has come over my rib and after its red and sore for ages its a horrible scary feeling
- when i suddenly bend down it feels like a lump bulging out.
- Except tight uncomfortable pressure under ribs.
- or reaching up with my arm.
- It never hurts if sitting still but more when leaning over and squishing the area.
- For 4 years I've had what feels like a bruised rib on my right side.
- I have exactly the same thing under my rib cage when I bend and twist.
- Charlie horse feeling is a good description…
- Almost like an organ is twisting and flipping up under your ribs and then flipping back down and you do have to move slowly and it really really hurts!
- I to have that same bulge in my right side while sitting down especially when I reach between my legs and have had my gullbladder removed.
- I have what feels like a floating organ/lump that rises from just under my heart/ribs that I have to push slowly back down.
- very uncomfortable.
- Feels like something knots up harder than a rock and like it is moving upward.
- The pain is horrible and I have to keep stretching to opposite side to get relief.
- Feels like a knife twisting in my ribs.
- This aroma h spasms really are becoming unbearable
- I've had knot type spasms in my stomach the lasrcyear getting worse n worse.
- It almost feels like menstrual cramps then I go to move bending or sideways and the knot looks like a baby moving in my stomach a day or two before delivery.
- I am 72 years old and have had this same pain like some piece of "gut" getting pinched by my ribs ever since my 48 yo daughter was born.
- Lately I have been having the pain without bending over.
- So I started having all these symptoms in August and it continually gets worse all the time and unbearable at night or if I have a normal bra on I also have Endo found it about 6 years ago but this feeling is knew.
- I feels likeba muscle that rolls under my left rib cage vety painfull , what can this be for now in the last two months it also is doing the same on my right side my Dr.
- Said breath thru this how with such pain after this happens i am very sore in that area , need help
- Feels like something folding up under my ribs on the tight side when I bend over just right.
- I bend over and feel something pop out.
- I have to push my back in and pain goes away.
- I really am starting to think that somehow something is pulled under the rib like I jerked when I bent over and felt pain from the hernia.
- I recently did that and the next day noticed this bubble under my rib and backache is back.
- I have that bulge under my right rib ,, when I bend over ,, itcomes and goes ,, had it before dc and it went away ,, back again ,, sore,,
- Well, it’s been roughly a week since I’ve been to get an ultrasound and guess what- the lump is back!
- I thought that this was the cause and left it for a bit but the lump began to appear even when I wasn’t full or needing to go.
- I found after a week or so that I could push it and it would literally disappear and come back on a full stomach or when I ‘really needed to go” for either.
- It slowly developed into a larger lump that sometimes felt very hard and large and sometimes felt squishy and large or small.
- I began to realise that I was feeling some sort of lump in my lower left torso when I was sitting in class at school or laying on my front on my phone, etc.
- If I bend over or turn in an awkward position, something pops out and feels like a Charlie horse.
- It forces me to straighten my body out to get it to go back in.
- I can only describe it to be like a small hernia.
- My pain also comes and goes when I gain weight.
- It also gets worse when I eat fried foods, so it may be a combination of conditions.
- It’s been going on for over a year it’s off and on feeling of something stuck under my right rib.
- I fell then it got worse.
- My ribs hurt all the way around to my back.
- Just below my right rib cage I'll get a really painful cramp that you can see while it's happening.
- It's a very painful burning sensation, and will happen sometimes when I'm doing something where I have to flex my abs.
- Just driving my truck today I could feel it trying to come on, and if I straighten my back and move a bit where I'm not flexing it will often go away without a full blown cramp.
- My dad had these same cramps in his abdomen too, but we thought it was due to his dialysis.
- I've just lived with it, but the past couple of weeks It's been more frequent.
- Whenever I bend over to tie my shoe to put a shoe on just bending over in general I feel like my organs or something is getting stuck under my rib cage and I have to stretch out or hit that area to get the organs or whatever it is back into place.
What diagnosis has been made?
- I have had a ultrasound on my liver kidney and gall ladder and they say I have excess gas and diverticulitis plus ibs.
- I have seen had an ultrasound and they found 3 kidney stones.
- After a follow up appointment with my PC, she said that after looking at my tests, that she can't see anything wrong and that she thinks I just have a viral infection along with the gastritis.
- But one gyno suggested a particular scan that showed a thickening of the uterus wall/lining so he did an op (for something else at the same time) and found I had advanced endometriosis.
- The most recent test was an upper endoscopy which included a biopsy that came back showing that I am positive for an H Pylori bacteria infection.
- I have had all possible tests and my conclusions are, because I have Metabolic Syndrome and fatty liver is one of the four criteria it causes the problems.
- They did a blood test and found my lipase level was slightly elevated (which can be a pancreas or gallbladder issue).
- Im 17 iv had one kidny stone and one surgry when i was less than 24hours old.
- I went to the doctor and he said i was just soure an dit will go away.
- After I had decided I was dying of liver disease I saw a doctor and he examined me and felt my stomach and he explained that it was just my last rib was poking in to a sensitive area.
- My GP referred me to GI doc a couple years ago to have the knot checked - nothing found - but it isn't always in the area even with or lower than the ribs.
- I, too, have Hoshimotos thyroid condition and this week, have had shooting pains from my collar bone up the right side of my neck - several tiny nodule-feeling places when I try to find out "what's hurting" so badly.
- It turned out to be a Hiatial Hernia.
- eventually went to my gp who done a sonar and claimed all normal.
- It took soooo long to discover the diagnosis (I also have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis) of Severe Celiac Disease that I am worried that it has caused something seriously detromental to my health.
- Turned out its just that i have some problems with my ribs/chest, back and general posture.
- Had a physiotherapist check me and tell me that it actually was the case.
- After this the symptoms got so bad that I went to a doctor, who could not really tell what was wrong, but assumed it had to do something with my posture changing after the surgery.
- U/S shows nothing (no stones, no enlargement in liver or gall bladder etc).
- Chest Xrays were clear.
- I had a complete hysterectomy in 2011 and after the surgery this weird pressure went away.
- My Dr said I had tons of scar tissue (organs grown together etc) from 3 past csections that he had to clean up so I figured the scar tissue must have been the source.
- GRRRR I just had a $5000 round of blood work done that tested me for everything, and every level you can imagine and it all came out perfect.
- I have gone to doctors in the past who say they can't feel a hernia or anything that could be wrong.
- I have a similar thing happening to me, Im on prednisone and have fatty liver.
- I have lupus osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, so the drug list goes on.
- She said it must be an inflamation of the cartlidge in the ribs and gave me the bums rush.
- I was sent to consult with a surgeon.
- I had a CAT scan, (paid for without insurance, OUCH) and it showed nothing.
- I had an ultrasound and I have between 15-20 stones.
- She urgently needed me to come back in, when I arrived at the office I was informed that I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit in my abdomen.
- She then informed me that I would need to undergo surgery to drain it.
- i have an ultrasound booked for 23rd of this month to check for gallstones.the pain is more annoying than anything and feels like something is under my ribs.i have just had a course of acid reflux tablets that have got rid of the acid(up to yet ,4 days left)it feels like i could scoop deep under my right ribs to get it out.the doctor i saw today examined me and i felt tenderness where he was prodding about,he also asked if i drink lots of alcohol which i dont have any.its worrying me to death.i feel like i need to burp to get rid of the ache.so you arnt alone and when i do the scan i will post back and let you know whats happening.x 4 now
- Diabetes 2, one large gallstone, Hiatus Hernia and acid reflux.
- I have had blood tests and they have all come back negative.
- My doctor doesn't seem unduely worried and she knows that I am scared stiff of hospitals so wouldn't go unless a matter of life and death.
- Thought of liver and kidneys but after blood tests came back negative then I have to dismiss that.
- I went tot the doctor some weeks ago and he examined me and took blood to test my liver function, though he also said he thought it could be muscular.
- My blood tests were clear and after a week or two the pain went away.
- I don't think it's stomach related as I had an endoscopy a few months ago to have my esophageal stricture dilated, and I was told my esophagus, stomach and duodenum were all in good shape (apart from my stricture which I've had for years).
- My doctor has said that she thinks its muscular.
- I have 1 large one which I will, at one point, have removed.
- All my blood tests were clear (I have them done regularly as I have diabetes), so I am just leaving well alone for now.
- It is just one big one not a lot of little ones.
- Maybe it is skeletal-I had an ultrasound to check out a an area I had over my bellybutton, but it was a 'fatty lump', lol.
- Oh-I am prone to getting lumps, which are nothing but annoying, called lymphomas.
- An ultrasound does show a fatty liver, non alcoholic, as I have never liked alcohol, I am hoping to resolve the fatty liver with a complete change in my diet and see if the problem is fatty liver.
- My doctor was not alarmed by the fatty liver and had said a great percentage of the USA has fatty liver, so I did nothing for a couple of years, but after reading about liver failure and diabetes coming from advanced fatty liver I woke up.
- After suffering from these identical symptons I went to my local hospital, they did some x-ray scans and it turned out I had some bubbles of air and fluid between my lungs and pleura (I hope that's the right term, I'm Swiss), they deemed it necessary to operate, so here I am hospitalized and with a drainage system attached just under my left nipple.
- I had it checked out via ultrasound about a year ago and they found nothing.
- I've had urine and blood tests done as well as an ultrasound and CT, all done at the ER after becoming seriously panicked.
- After all the tests were done the only thing they found "wrong" with me was that I had a swollen tube going to my kidney (which they said was nothing) and that I have diverticulosis, which wouldn't contribute to the problem as that is on the left side.
- I left the ER with a diagnosis of Gastritis and was given a dose of Mylanta and a prescription of Prilosec to clear up the Gastritis.
- I too had acid reflex.
- The doctor gave me suppressant tablets to let the condition 'heal'.
- Although we discussed the possibility that it was an ulcer, nothing was said overtly.
- I too had ultrascans looking at gallbladder issues etc - nothing could be seen to be wrong.
- Been to doctors and he thinks it may be gallstones so have to go for scan beginning of October but freaking out a bit and wondered if anyone had had a precise diagnosis or knew what this could be?
- I went to my general practitioner, who did a blood test, a manual examination of my abdomen, took chest x-rays and gave me an ultrasound at an imaging clinic.
- i did HIDA scan, Ultrasound 3x, xray 3x, MRI, CT, all blood and urine test.
- and still nothing.
- Dear All, I'm having the same problem and as per my doctor this is called peptic ulcer.
- I turned out I have a form of endometriosis and had done so for over 12 years.
- Went to an Urgent Care they told me to take Prilosec or something like that.
- So anyways I decided to go to the Dr in November she sent me for an Ultrasound and they saw Gallstones.
- The surgeon said I have no muscle tears that relate to a hernia and it must be a muscle spasm.
- I had a ct scan, ultra sound, barium study, and colonoscopy but there was nothing wrong.
- Internal doctor thought a muscle pull.
- wanted to try ALEVE for a few days.
- Blood tests, Ultrasound CT scan showed nothing.
- was given meds for irritable bowel in case it was that.
- Doctors are clueless and they say everything is perfect since there is nothing wrong in the blood tests or ultrasound reports.
- I asked them to re-check the kidney and liver but they insist that everything is ok.
- My doctor thinks its a pulled muscle, I'm not with him on that.
- This was the reason they took my gallbladder in the first place.
- The first thought was that it had to do with my hiatal hernia, but the gastro doctor said it wasn't.
- I have had my gallbladder checked (both an ultrasound & hida scan).
- Liver function was fine, blood work fine with the exception of very low vitamin D.
- I was put on a regiment of 2 antibiotics and prilosec for 2 weeks and then did a breath test 2 months later to see if it cleared the infection.
- I just got the result today and it is negative so I'm now waiting to see if all the symptoms go away.
- I also have a simple cyst on my right kidney they found 8 years ago but unless it got bigger and needs to be drained i doubt its that.
- Im a 36 male that had my gallbladder removed 7 years ago.
- I also had a kidney stone 5 years ago.
- I went to see a specialist a few weeks ago and now they say I may have a fatty liver.
- They don't think it is the gall stones.
- No one seems to think that the feeling of something getting stuck in my rib feeling is something that is too concerning.
- My doctor says it is my gall stone.
- I have 1 large one.
- I have gad an endoscopy (twice) and if you ask to be anethistised it's ok.
- I too have a hiatus hernia and acid reflux so it could really be anything.
- I am now told I could have liver problems.
- I am overweight and have been diagnosed with an enlarged/fatty liver.
- I had a CT scan and everything was normal.
- bloodwork came out all negative, pelvic ultrasound came back negative.
- However, lower abdominal ultrasound shows I have a 2 cm x 1.75 cm gallstone.
- All other organs are fine.
- CT of lower abdomen showed mild ileium (just gas) and possible microscopic ovarian cysts but that was ruled out by pelvic ultrasound.
- Had an ultrasound and came out as fatty liver but my doc says that's not what's getting stuck in my ribs.
- Of course I worry about my liver, but I had an ultrasound last year after about six months of this nonsense and was told that I looked fine.
- I've since had bloodtests done, and my GP (he's an internal med guy, which by the way, for your GP just get an internal med doc.
- this was a tip from an ER surgeon I am friends with) said that while my bloodtests (liver enzymes) looked fine for the most part, my ST levels were slightly elevated and he couldn't understand the symptoms so he's sending me to a specialist (GI).
- I have had a CT scan, blood work, physical exams, barium swallow to check throat and stomach (found acid reflux) and now I am scheduled for an upper GI endoscopy and an ultrasound of my gallbladder next week.
- I asked him the possibility of this getting better and he stated it would probably not.
- When he removed the GB he said that it was 'ugly' with a thick vicous gray matter and definitely needed to be removed.
- he stated that the tendons attached to the GB were forcing my liver down on it and that was an indication of a problem.
- They asked me to repeat the blood test in a week which I did and the level had escalated a bit more.
- They then gave me the choice of doing an ultrasound which I did.
- The report came back stating that the bile in the GB looked thick and vicous.
- I was referred to a surgeon that told me I could see if it got better or have the GB removed.
- My Doctor thought it was gallbladder , but that has come back clear.
- troubled with same thing for awhile, then diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
- Results-fatty liver.
- I've had X-rays, scans, blood tests.
- Seen 7 docs total including my specialist who is operating this Friday.
- Turns out in my case to be a blockage and spasming of the bile duct.
- This was given away by raised bilirubin, lipase, and a couple other minor levels.
- I went to the hospital to get an ultra sound done and I had over 30 stones they took me straight to surgery, that was 10 years ago.
- One called it fat, the other wanted me to take acid indigestion pills.
- Xray, and lying flat CT showed nothing.
- I have already had tests for celiac's (gluten tolerance) disease and also had an upper GI test.
- I guess it prevents me from overeating, but went for ultrasound to check for gallstones and found out I have non alcoholic fatty liver.
- My primary care physician said the carbs I eat gets deposited into fat in the liver since I am prone to diabetes.
- I have no hepatitis (already checked).
- I spoke to my surgeon about this & he told me that we have nerves under our skin and when they get squashed that is what's causing the pain, even though I could swear it's my liver getting caught under my ribs.
- My dr said I dislocated a rib and is sending me for more tests .
- I had had two ultra sounds.
- all blood tests are okay, they mentioned ulcer and possible IBS., even hernia.
- I went to visit my doctor and he ordered a blood test and a urine sample because he thought that my liver was swollen when he checked it, which is a sign of mono.
- The blood test was negative for mono and he said it could just be a pulled rib muscle.
- I've had ct scans, sonograms, ultra sounds, endoscopy, xrays.
- My blood tests, CT scans, ultrasounds and X-rays have ruled out anything to do with the liver, glallbladder or kidneys and spleen.
- Seen all kinds of drs and had numerous test and best guess any dr can come up with is it might be a pinched nerve from the back to the front under the ribs There is some fatty deposit on the liver but drs aren't concerned with that, they say alomost everyone has that and it should not cause the pain and cramps at the right side ribs.
- Drs advice is stretching excercies, I've been doing those for a few years every second day and nothing is eleviating any of the pain or cramps from the right side where ribs are.
- I have been x-rayed, and nothing was found to be wrong.
- I do have gastritis and have been be treating for it.
- endoscopy, colonoscopy, botox injected in esophagus (they thought it to be esophageal spasms) ultrasound, CT scan, blood work ran, liver tested.
- They could find nothing wrong.
- etc.
- One night during an ER visit, they gave me a GI Cocktail.
- I finally found out that it was a rib out and I go to the chiropractor now when its out.
- Had gallbladder out in 2009, still have pain in that area and she said it may be scar tissue from surgery.
- I also have lupus and the possibility of the disease attacking an organ is serious to me.
- He told me that it was a lipoma (a benign mass of fat usually encapsulated, harmless, hereditary, and located in more than one place--so if you have one, you probably have more somewhere else.) He did not recommend removing it then because it was not causing any harm or pain (it wasn't catching in my ribs then, just sticking out on that side pretty visibly).
- Even the doctors thought the lump was cancerous.
- When they removed it, they discovered that it was a small piece of the lipoma on my shoulder that had broken free and become calcified.
- They removed the entire lipoma from the shoulder and all the pathology studies were negative.
- He cited a recent CT-scan I had done as evidence that there was no lipoma present.
- Then he came back and smugly told me that the radiologist saw no sign of a lipoma, after which he told me that the problem was indeed fat, but not any kind that a surgeon could or would remove.
- Recently told it could be endometriosis which causes scar tissue to grow in many places and can travel up to the diaphragm
- I have had all the scans, blood tests, endoscopy and what the found was a rather strange looking hernia that they think I must have had from birth so they don't believe this to cause my pain, I do drink alcohol at the weekends but It still happens even if I stop.
- I had blood tests, ultrasound, CT scan, kidney scan and rib x-Rays.
- They said not gallstones or fatty liver but can't help thinking it really feels like enlarged liver.
- I've had a ultrasound of my gallbladder.
- Nothing!
- not really , after heaps of tests, and the advice of a dodgy gall bladder , I lost some weight and took a tonic from a naturopath , containing turmeric, and stuff to help the gall bladder and it has been less troublesome.
- I was diagnosed with Spincter of Oddi Dysfunction
- I have been diagnosed with Diverticulitis , I am not sure if there is any connection , but is I mentioned above it has subsided now.
- I talked to my dr and he brushed it off as a "floating rib" im going to make another appointment with someone else
- The doctor didn't think it was anything serious, but it's making me very nervous.
- He said if it continues he will order a CT Scan.
- I'm not overweight but I do have Crohn's Disease, but I've had CD for over 30 yrs.
- I went for an ultrasound which showed I have fatty liver as well.
- My liver enzymes were slightly elevated.
- My was fatty liver and an overworked digestive system causing Inflamation.
- I do have a fatty liver and am obese.
- I sit down and can feel it had an ultrasound and they said no at ones x sometimes it aches and it is worrying me xxx
- Sorry should say no gall stones xx yet it worries me as I have put weight on and feel like I have fluid x can this be weight gain or an age thing I am 45 but fit and in good.health xx
- All tests were normal prior to removal but it was diseased and adhesed to liver and intestines.
- He said its nothing but my on mental feelings.
- He also suggested me some exercises.
- I had a ct scan and only problem they found was I have a 'fatty liver'.
- She said I have a long rib cage and that's prob what happens, I bend over and something slips under my ribs and hurts, then it fades after awhile, like when little and would bend over back of a chair!
- i took exrays scan but discovered something like enlagment of the heart ,dont have sure about this but are still suffering
- I felt as though I was pregnant it's only way to describe it I wasn't as I would rather be having a kid at 42then this it always hurts moves around pushes pullls makes like unbearable.I had a cat scan few weeks ago they found a mass on my liver I was sorta relieved.
- My Gynecologist suggested it may be gallbladder related.
- I have seen a psychiatrist thinking this is a mental issue and was prescribed multiple anti depressants and anti stress medications which help.
- The only two factors that seem to be related is that one of the doctors found that I have a hiatus hernia (after performing an endoscopy of my stomach) and I have issues managing stress.
- I have had multiple tests run including gallbladder/hida scans, 3 MRIs, 5 ultrasounds, 6 cat scans, etc.
- with no adverse findings.
- This may be years late but I had similar symptoms for 4 yrs having every scan test until I had a hida scan which showed up my gall bladder was not contracting properly so am on list for removal and hope in all hopes it works or the future looks a bit grim.marriage is starting to show cracks so I need to get better more than anything.best new year it will bring.please ask your doc about Hida scan.good luck.x
- I went to the doctor two days ago and had X-rays and lab work, they did find kidney stones however those were in my left side and my pain is definitely on the right.
- All these professional best guess is do some exercises and strengthen your sides.
- A doctor told me it's probably a muscle also.
- A gastroenterologist suggested to me that it might be a slipped rib, but no one else agreed, and no one was willing to diagnose it.
- I had another ultrasound and was told ifmt is muscular spasms no hernia no rib and liver size is normal so I give up.
- Diagnosed celliac last month got rid of gluten and seeing some improvement.
- First they did the ultra-sould , which came back negative , secondly it was a HIDA scan which also came back negative.
- I then went back for a CT Scan which showed my liver and gallbladder to be enlarged so I was sent back for a MRI.
- Now the Doc is telling me I have a mass or blockage in the bile ducts and I'm being sent to a GI Specialist.
- Well kinda he said my liver is coming up over my rubs and there is nothing they can do.
- Hi, I had my ultrasound, the doctor said it is muscle spasms, which I don't believe.
- I went and had a few x-rays yesterday and the med station doc didn't really have any idea what she was looking at other than the fact that I'm extremely constipated.
- She did say that there was a shadow of some sort which she wasn't sure was my gallbladder or what.
- it was only gallstones.
- I also have a hietal hernia and several on here said that they do as well.
- My gallstones were in a huge ball in one spot so the tech thought it was a mass.
- I have endometriosis but only used to get this pain under my rids when I had sat not straight for a while but been getting this pain more recently now tbh and becoming very uncomfortable.
- In reading your message I too have heartburn and only Zantac works for me and also I have gallstones.
- My ultrasound showed nothing and it is a mysterious situation to my doctor.
- He still seems to think it is a spegalian hernia just by my symptoms and said I could have surgery to fix it which I definitely will if it gets any worse.
- He ordered an ultrasound on me but they couldn't see anything because it wasn't "popped" out at the time.
- Hearts good.
- Lungs good.
- But low low potassium I found out.
- Doc says Im "deconditioned"--indeed!
- I, too, have a fatty liver and am overweight, so am thinking it is my liver.
- I'm over 70, not very active the past several years, overweight and have a fatty liver.
- Hi TinaMarie, I have the same problem only it doesn't radiate to my shoulder or interfere with my driving but I also have Hashimotos Disease no acid reflux Wouldn't you think Doctors would know what it was I am not to concerned about it now.
- Went to the ER, they did an ultrasound but found nothing.
- I do suffer with endometriosis and have a coil fitted to help this.
- I understand you feel better the pain isn't as frequent if at all and my dr said it's a food allergy although my lymphocytes and isophils are sky high like above the "high" range.
- i had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy done about a year ago with a small hiatal hernia showing up, but the doctor wasn't that impressed by it, and he gave me rx antacids.
- Yes I think so too, had results done an everything came back fine, but I was told had an fatty liver.
- I was told to not drink alcohol an to just flush your system out with water.
- Oh i 4got 2 mention its not my gallbladder had that removed after having my 1st child back in the late 80's & i was dioanoise with a enlarged liver several years ago not sure if its causing this problem now but hope its not when i find out a update on mine I'll let y'al know & hope every1 finds out good news whts causing ur pains in the same area as mine.
- But doctor said its a floating bone that is normal in men and he gets loads of people who are all worried.
- I had blood tests and have a slightly fatty liver but it wasn't cancer thank god!
- I am having the same pains now and I have a history of PCOS, endometriosis, and chronic pelvic pain.
- Just about 3 weeks ago I had an ultrasound and they found a cyst the size of an orange on my right ovary, along with my uterus being slightly enlarged and other stuff going on.
- I called my doctor and he thinks it's a combination of me resting so much right now while I'm in pain (we're not meant to be so sedentary, and it's probably also the way I'm sitting) and my large cyst pushing things around and causing discomfort.
- All my bloodwork is fine and I feel fine otherwise so since so mamy people are having invasive tests which tell them nothing, I figure I'll try this first.
- & I thought I'm the only alien on this panet with this unidentified feeling :P BTW I also went thru Ultrasound, CT, Breath Test, LFT, KFT, Endoscopy and everything was good.
- I've had an ultrasound and CT with contrast, no significant results.
- No gallbladder issues have been found in my bloodwork or CT scan.
- I was told in the ER two days ago, if it's smaller hernia it won't show on CT scan.
- I had fatty liver deposits, over weight, female, over 45 years old, ovarian cyst that is none related - same folding pain, uncomfortable.
- MY GI seems puzzled and my primary care doc things its a hernia near the excision area from them prob with scar tissue that has torn and that feeling is my guts going through the hole then going back when I adjust.
- The tell me tests came back fine .
- US, Ct scan, blood work all negative.
- Hiatal hernia and some ulcers (small) were found.
- Doc said it was a large lipoma and that I shouldn't worry.
- I have pretty bad gastroparisis but that isn’t causing the pain.
- I do have fatty liver.
- I have had blood tests for liver and kidney all clear.
- I had an ultrasound all clear.
- Got shingles and excruciating nerve pain and now this knotted feeling under right side ribs.
- Had tests and results were "normal ".
- After ultra sound i was diagnosed with fatty and enlarged liver.
- to check for hernia but of course no buldges of hard things in stomach when I saw the Dr.
- I went to Dr.
- X rays showed nothing.
- My doctors don't even look at the problem area, they just tell me it's a floating rib or one rib popping on top of the other one.
- Had 2 sonograms that showed nothing and now an MRI showed narrowing of a distal common hepatic duct.
- The dr said sometimes they just stop working.
- They found nothing wrong but took my gallbladder anyway.
- Now I'm dealing with an incisional hernia from the gall bladder surgery years ago whenever I bend over really far and reach.
- He said that it could potentially be a lipoma or a hernia and advised me to see my doctor yet again.
- I asked my parents to arrange a doctors appointment (thank the lord that healthcare is free over here because this would have been wasted money if not) and the doctors sent me for an ultrasound after feeling the lump.
- He now thinks that it may be costochondral separation (when rib is torn loose from the costal cartilage and is detached from the breastbone).
- My family doctor thought it was acid reflux, but it was strange that the pain was only under the right rib, and hurt when I bent over, coughed, etc.
- I have also been diagnosed with a fatty liver which I thought was probably the problem, but my doctor doesn't think so.
- My doctor said slipping rib syndrome possibly.
- All my tests came back normal, liver enzymes, ultrasound, chest X-ray, and HIDA scan.
- I have exactly the same pain as you describe and also have a floating kidney.
- Doctor's have told me there's nothing there to cramp, but that's clearly wrong.
- Same problem here, got the ultrasound report today, it reads as follows: “The liver is increased in echogenicity suggestive of fatty infiltration.
- 10mm Simple cyst seen within the left love of liver.
- There is a discrete low echo area within the right lobe of liver measuring 20x21mm, not in keeping with a simple cyst in appearance, unable to determine aetiology using ultrasound?
- Spleen, both kidneys, aorta and pancreas appear normal”.
- CBD of normal Calabrese.
- Normal gallbladder with no gallstones seen.

In conclusion
The discomfort or pain under the rib on the right side can indicate anything, from minor conditions that are nothing to worry about to the serious diseases. Since the right upper quadrant is the home to many vital organs such as liver, gallbladder, pancreas, right kidney, and small and large intestine, it is important to visit your doctor to get timely diagnosis and treatment if necessary.
