When I read the "cricopharyngeal spasm" explanation I tried what I do when any muscle in my body spasms or cramps.
I stretched out the muscle to relax it.

I stretched my neck up and tilted my head back somewhat then forced a swallow and its working.:-)

I'm having to do it a few times but at least I know how to fix mine now.:-)

Thanks!

I have been having this since 2 months now.

It is more like a small dry lump towards my right side of the throat and when I swallow grainy stuff I feel it is getting stuck there. It scared the hell out of me and I went to a GP. Since I also post nasal drip, she gave me medicines for cold and throat irritation. But it was of no use. Then I visited an ENT and 'asked' her to do a Diagnostic Endoscopy. :'( She could see some irritation which was not due to dust allergy or heart burn. I had pharygitis too for which I got antibiotics. Her diagnosis was Adenoids which was also rare for my age (twenties). Anyway, since it did not get cured, she asked me to take a Nasopharynx lat view x-ray. It showed minimal opacities in the region and that scared the hell out of me. I got more antibiotics and anti inflammatory triggering off my acidity/gastritis making life miserable.

So during a conversation with an Onco Surgeon I know I mentioned this. Immediately he consulted it with his senior and said that there was no reason to worry. He was God in white coat at that time for me and I will always remember him for his prompt assistance. The senior consultant said that it would subside on its own.

Even now, I have the irritation though it had subsided for a few days. :-( If I have an ice cream it kind of bothers me. I don't like the idea of surgery if it is adenoids.

Any insight would be helpful! Thanks.

I've been having this same problem since Dec,2010 . It showed up 3 weeks after gallbladder surgery. My ears itch on the inside , i cough a lot , my nasal passages are completely dry and where the adam apple is  , my throst feels completely dry and that is where the "ball" of whatever is located. I have been to the ENT , no luck tells me it's all in my head. What worries me is , when I had the upper gi done prior to my gallbladder surgery, the "lump" disappearred for 3 wonderful days . This has me scared to death, and I don't know what else to do or try.

I just had a meeting with a Throat Doctor and this is my diagnosis:

Tonsilloliths, also known as tonsil stones, are irregularly shaped, whitish/yellow, foul-smelling globs of mucus and bacteria that get caught in the back of the throat. They form in the tonsil crypts which are simply small pockets or divots that appear in everyones tonsils. The scientific name for these white globs is tonsilloliths.

I came across this doing research for a friend.  I'd like to link something by Dr. Oz, especially for the person who had a problem with his vocal chords as well.  Turns out this lump sensation can be, among other things, vocal chord tissue swelling caused by acid reflux, allergies and infections.  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***

You didn't mention WHAT it was your ob/gyn actually found. Please come back and elaborate to include your diagnosis as further options for the readers of this post to follow up on.
