Well, if I did it finally went away. I found that many of the responses I received were on the same antibiotic that I was on.
I have the same problem .. someone please advise before it's too late.. I hope I am not worried too much .. Should I consult a doctor or visit the hospital ? Please tell
I got to bed in the wee hrs. of the morning so I knew I would be sleeping in but I wanted to take my antibiotic on time so I had it by my bedside with a bottle of water. I woke up and took it this morning and then lay down to go back to sleep but a pain in my chest and esophogus area woke me up... That was close to an hour and a half ago now and I am still in very uncomfortable pain. So, after reading some of this discussion I decided to call my pharmacist and she was quite helpful. She told me that with some antibiotics this happens and one shouldn't lie down after ingesting until they wait 1/2 hr to an hour. I would probably after this exxperience err on the side of caution and say an hour. I will never do this again. My pharmacist told me to take some Tums and wait for it to kick in and if that didn't help to take some Prilosec. So that is what I am going to do. Hope this helps someone.
Thanks for your post about the Clindamycin. I have had my pain since 8:15 this morinng and it is now almost 8:00 pm. My Dr. switched me from Keflex (which didn't cause any problems with my esophagus) because it wasn't touching my infection in my parotid gland. At first after talking to my pharmacist this morning I thought it was from having a capsule and then lying down but when I called poison control a little while ago because the pain was so persistent plus I have a small hiatal hernia in my esophagus and after reading that Clindamycin can have serious effects on the esophagus I wanted to make sure that my hernia wasn't strangulated now due to this med. The lady at the Poison Center said that the whole reason I got this was becaue I had no food with it. Well, my pharmacy script said that I could take it with or with out food. She also told me that any of the meds ending in 'myacin' need to be taken with food. Unfortunately, even though she said it should resolve within a day or two she said that she couldn't give any guarentees and that if it persisted beyond that to get in touch with my doctor. I also won't ever lie down again until after about an hour has gone by... Who knew?
