I had this and it felt like popcorn or something was stuck back there. Next day I got an awful sore throat. Looked in the back of my throat and it looked like a mini tongue. It was Epiglottitis.

I just want to narrate my personal experience with this feeling, from when it started till now, as I don’t have the feeling again, and deliberate on what I did. I feel I might be helping someone since everything I did was based on reading forums as this as well.

So, first, if you’re having the feeling like something is stuck in your throat/acid reflux (and don’t want to be using acid reflux drugs every time), the first thing you want to do is first, remove the fear of the cause to be cancer. You can only remove that fear mainly by undergoing ‘tests’. By ‘tests’ I mean three test. One is a biopsy, you should go get your throat scanned or checked to see whether there’s any lump or signs of cancer there, hopefully, there is none. This test is often done by physicians who do “head and neck checks”. Secondly – the second test, go to a dentist, a dentist can also check and confirm/reaffirm what the throat scan reveals – i.e. that there is nothing in your throat, the dentist would check your mouth and throat for cancer signs, some of them have machines they use to scan your mouth and throat to detect. Note, usually, acid reflux/feeling that something is stuck in the throat does not necessarily mean you have cancer, in fact, you most likely do not have cancer. The last test you want to do is a (full) STDs test, I know this might seem as an overbroad, but, there is this STD – HPV2 or so that causes cancer. So, if it causes cancer, and one of the symptoms of cancer is the feeling that something is stuck in one's throat, then it might be necessary to do a full STD test, and henceforth practice safe sex. It might be hard to detect HPV test for men, but do the full STD test anyway, and see a dentist to do an oral check.

After you’ve removed the fear of cancer, and are certain the cause/feeling of something stuck in your throat is not cancer, then congratulations, the next stage is much easier. From my experience, the causes of this feeling/acid reflux are two – what we eat and the lifestyle we live. On the first – what we eat. The feeling/acid reflux is just your body telling you to stop eating some of the things you eat or like eating. So, first, google or search for foods that someone suffering from acid reflux should eat and not eat. I can assure you, there’s no way the feeling is going to leave unless you change your eating habit, you just can’t continue eating what you use to eat. Usually, you will find that you should NOT eat acidic foods, fatty foods, tomatoes, and fried foods. Mainly, you have to increase eating green – vegetables, salad, and eat only grilled foods (chicken should be grilled, avoid red meat totally), baked foods, ginger (tea or buy the roots and add to cooked food), potatoes (cooked or grilled, do not fry it), fruits (but not all fruits, pineapple, and watermelon are two fruits that I have been eating and they both haven’t given me any problem, but you can check for other fruits you can eat too), protein shakes (vanilla flavour especially, do not eat anything with chocolate content). Generally, just check google for the types of food you should be eating and restrict yourself to these types of foods, and drink water more often, as a liquid, coffee is totally bad if you’re having this feeling. I know it might be hard to let some type of food go, but, it’s the price, plus, which do you prefer?, feeling sick and eating all those food, or not eating them, and feel well. Avoid eating outside, most foods are fried, fried food would reinvigorate your acid reflux and the weird feeling of something stuck in the throat. If you want to eat outside, make enquiries as to how the food is made, don’t choose fried foods on the menu list, choose/request for grilled food instead.

Secondly, on lifestyle, I changed three things about my lifestyle – which contributed to my healthiness. One, I raised the tip of my bed so I sleep slant. I didn’t say I raised or increased my pillow, in fact doing this would cause more problem, what I say I did and still do is raised the tip of my bed – the part (of my bed) I put my head. So, go to the bottom of your bed and just put some hard object so as to raise it tipped, so that when you sleep on the bed you sleep slant, head up and the other part of the body down. Next, don’t eat too much food at once, instead, eat little, severally. Also, after eating any meal, don’t go and lie down immediately, allow at least 1-2 hours before lying down so as to allow the food to digest, if possible, eat gums, there are some gums like Trident that aids quick digestion (if you want to lie down earlier), you will know when you’re light, but do not go to bed immediately after a meal. Lastly, do some exercise, lift weights, run, just some exercise. Do all these things, and within a week, the feeling in your throat as if something is stuck would leave, no more acid reflux or heartburn. Also, maybe for the first one week when you’re doing all these things, you can use this drug – Lansoprazole – you can buy it off the counter at Walmart, it really helped me, use the drug as directed and continue doing all these things as discussed. Make sure you avoid stress too, sleep often.

I hope this help someone out there, you are not alone, your body is just requiring you to stop eating some food, and instead, eat some type of food, and asking that you change your lifestyle.

Holy c**p thank you that helped me a lot. I didn't go to see an osteopath, but my posture was definitely the problem. I spent hours slouching in front of the computer, but when I stopped doing that it didn't exactly help so i thought about my internet usage and that's where it hit me. I'm on my cell phone for hours on my bed when I'm not on my computer.

I lay on my back so my head is slightly tilt to look at the screen (looking down if I was standing up) and I have been doing this for hours for years. Looking at those devices whether we stand up, sit or laying mess up our posture badly. I stopped using my cell phone on my bed and I make sure my usage of my phone is minimal while taking of my posture and the symptoms started to fade away.

This is the first time the symptoms are starting to fade away since having this for 3 years.
