I just had a lateral sphincterotomy performed do to a 6 1/2 month long anal fissure battle, wow was that fissure painful, or maybe it was the hemroids, from having a ruptured rectum. Basically I was fighting my sphincter to push poop out. Anyway in about week you feel way better and it gets better from there. Careful farting the first few times at work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be going for a anal fissure and fistula surgery in a weeks time. I am scared and pray that all goes well. I have been suffering for the last 3 years, after the birth of my son. I just hope that I will get this problem fixed and move on with my life as normal again. I am so scared of the BM after reading all the feedbacks from persons who did this surgery.
Thank you all for your views on this problem, it does help to know what to expect.

If you have insurance it should not cost that much especially if they do it at an outpatient surgery center. We paid 250 to the Doctor and 560 to the surgery center, only because we had not met our deductible. So check out a Doctor that does surgerys in surgery centers. You can also ask the Doctor if he can waive his fee if you let his students come in and watch the procedure, just in case you never know it does not hurt to ask and you cannot continue to be in this kind of pain.

Don't go to a general surgeon, I repeat not to a general surgeon. I made that mistake the first time I had hemorrhoids. Go to a surgeon who is a colorectal specialist. I guarantee you, you will heal faster and get much better information from a specialist. I have had hemorrhoids, fisher, abscesses, and until I went to a colorectal specialist I truly suffered. Specialist don't cost any more than a general surgeon either, you will be more than happy you went to a specialist I guarantee you.

You should call surgeon back and let him know your situation, they may want to see you right away. Be sure to drink tons of water or you will pay dearly for not doing that. Also try a combination of Mirlax and Citracell to make sure your movements are soft. Also every time the pain becomes unbearable hit the tub, you will learn to love the tub and the hot water. Eventually it will get better. Try to minimize the pain medicine as they will constipate you, I actually have lots of oxicodine remaining from my prescription and if I really need a drug now I take ibuprofine. Sorry about the spelling on the drugs but I think you will know what I am referring to. Good luck.
