I had a flexible cystoscopy done recently under local anaesthetic. I found it unbelievably painful. I'd read some reviews of how it's 'more uncomfortable than painful'. Well, i'm afraid I can't share that view. I nearly passed out from the pain. The pain actually seemed to start when the apparent 'numbing gel' was injected into me which is kind of ironic. Also the pain when 'attempting' to urinate was also unreal. I couldn't urinate more than a teaspoon at a time due to the feeling that I was being obstruved with broken glass in my urethra. Not just 'a but stingy' like I'd read it was. Anyway, my question. I'm in teh UK - Is there anyone here in the UK who knows whether you can INSIST that these cystoscpy's are done when your are asleep under general anaesthetic? I simply can't go through that again.
