Whatever you do is normal for you, everyone is different.
If by half way down the shaft you mean the tip of the foreskin is at that point so your glans is completely uncovered and the inner foreskin is exposed half way down that's great.
Yes, that sounds normal. The foreskin is supposed to retract tin adults.
