I just had a HIDA Scan last week. My EF is 98%. My doctor says looks good, nothing to worry about. Continued problems will refer me to a GI. He referred me to a GI several weeks ago. This is very frustrating.

Had my gallbladder out Friday, HIDA scan with an EF of 99%. Surgery called it a hyperkinetic overactive gallbladder. Hoping all symptoms prior to surgery are gone once I fully recover. Doctor did mention prior to surgery that there is a 20% chance pain may still be there. Here's hoping I'm in the 80%. With travel time of about 45 minutes each way, 2 hour check in prior to surgery, I was home in a total time of 6 hours. Resting and walking as directed, off pain meds on Sunday morning. Just a little discomfort but getting better each day.

I had a hida scan yesterday and my results are an ef of 93. Now they call it normal in the test results. Haven't heard from my doctor yet. Is this normal or should I push to see a surgeon? I have pain in my upper abdomen that radiates to my right shoulder blade. My attacks are random but I always have tenderness in those areas..

Hello all, I'm a 57 year old male and have always been active and in good physical condition. Back in April of 2016 I began having symptoms that my primary doc thought could be a gallbladder problem. I scheduled a ultra sound and results showed a normal gallbladder but there was a spot on my left kidney that needed further testing. This turned out to be cancer and the tumor was removed in May of 2016. Leading up to my surgery my GI symptoms got worse. My kidney doc informed me the tumor was not causing my symptoms and I was very fortunate to have discovered it. I went in for further testing, had a colonoscopy, endoscopy, blood work, EUS, and Hida scan. All of the results came back negative. While looking over the hida scan results I saw that my injection fraction was 98%. Being completely frustrated at this point and my condition worsening and getting no answers, I started to do some research on my own and that's when I discovered that a injection fraction of 98% can be problematic. With the kidney surgery coming up I set up a appointment with a GI doc at the same Hospital which is a highly acclaimed institution in the Midwest. I showed this GI doc all the test results and pointed out the injection fraction #. She was not impressed and told me there was nothing wrong with my gallbladder. When the time came form my surgery I had lost 20 lbs and was very run down but the surgery went well and I had that behind me though I was still sick. Decided to go to another GI doc and again I pointed out the hida scan # and again he wasn't on board and literally laughed at the idea that it could be my gallbladder causing my problems. I couldn't believe that I was the only one who has had this sort of condition and had a family member drive me 8 hours to what is one of the most prestigious health care institutions in the country. Surely they could figure this out. I spent 4 days there and went thru numerous tests and saw 3 or 4 specialists one being a GI doc. Had all my previous GI test results with me and again asked about the hida scan #. Trying not to seem as someone who had diagnosed myself over the internet, I brought up that I had researched a High injection fraction and it appears in some cases this can cause symptoms like I'm having. She looked at me a laughed. I was discharged with a diagnoses of chronic fatigue and a dysfunctional pelvic floor. I did leave with the knowledge that if there was something very serious wrong with me they would have surely found it. Well it's a year latter and with the help of my primary doc I located a surgeon who says the hida scan # is a problem. He informed me he others are in the process of publishing a paper on this very subject. I couldn't believe my ears. This what I had read months ago but couldn't find a GI doc who had any knowledge of this and I had been to 2 highly regarded institutions. So after nearly a year and half and 5 different GI docs I'm finally going to have my gallbladder removed on Sept 29. I know there is no guarantee this is going to relieve my symptoms but at this point I'm willing to take the risk. The surgeon informed me that around 80% of the patients in his experience have complete relief. I would be interested to know if anyone else with this condition has experience pelvic floor problems. I discovered that a inflamed gallbladder can sensitize the abdominal wall which can directly effect the pelvic floor. I guess I'll soon find out. I'll let you know in a few months how I'm doing.
Good Luck All

My surgery has got delayed until December (age 34 male post). I have had a few more attacks since then, all caused by fatty meals. I'm ready to get it out! I feel it mostly in my upper right back, then comes the indigestion, and if it's a bad attack I feel the pain below the right rib, almost like a bruised feeling. I guess this makes since if the gallbladder is cramping up from being to active. I guess the surgery is fairly low risk, so I'm not too nervous about it.

Have you tried going gluten free yet? In order to provide relief, not as the fad. I had your symptoms for years and years. Plus muscle pain, nerve pain, over sensitive skin, inability to sleep, etc. Hardly any medical doctors look to diet as a culprit (which still baffles me). It was only off of a suggestion from a friend that I go gluten free and it made a world of difference. Night and day. Now my bowel function is amazingly normal (never knew what that was before). I can actually fall asleep like a normal person. The skin and nerve pain (which got me a fibromyalsia diagnosis) has gone away.
Only thing left; I also have a high ejection factor of my gall bladder. I’ve had two major ‘episodes’ to date as well as numerous other times of discomfort. I’ll have a consult with a general surgeon soon, but am undecided on if I want them to actually remove it or not. I feel like there’s still something left that I’m missing.
But the point is, I feel you. It’s amazing how hard it is to get doctors to hear you and take you seriously.
I know you posted this a long time ago. I hope that since then you have found some answers and relief.

Hello. So, I’m in the Akron area and was referred to the General Surgeon Dr Rick Gemma who works with Western Reserve in Cuyahoga Falls. If you still haven’t found anyone willing to take you seriously, I’d look to him.
I am also suffering from a high ejection factor. I just can’t decide if I want them to take it out, but that’s more on me.

Best of Luck

I hope you see this! I love just east of Cleveland and I checked my insurance and the doctor you recommended is in my network. Yay! I, too, have a high EF and an currently trying to rule out other possibilities because my current surgeon thinks my EF is normal. I disagree. Can you tell me what your symptoms are and what the doctor said? I would appreciate it!

They usually take it out as a high number gives many of the same symptoms as blocked ducts etc

I feel exactly like you discribed. Everything tests normal though.-HIDA 71% I have Celiac Disease and Lupus but this right rib pain and what goes with it have been accutely painful recently(last 4 months). I find it unbearable & have lost 30 pounds due to it. I don’t want to lose anymore weight& my GP just tells me to go to a pain clinic. I’m overwhelmed with this pain but I don’t want to just mask it with meds. Did you ever find out what the cause for your pain is?
