After running a blacklight over the carpeting we've determined that it isn't cat piss that's pissing us off. The stains we found are more bleach stains that urine, and the odor we're now thinking is half musty smell and half general cat stank/litter box stank. There will be air fresheners in our future and if it could be a little less humid out we'll open the windows in the evening. We had a nice good rain last night which cooled things off.

you might want to check with a pet store for an odor remover too.
Look for brands with enzymes! And, if you're really ambitious, rent one of these rugdoctor machine for like $20 from your grocery store. It will make your carpets seem new and smell lovely. btw, I've been dealing with this same situation in our apt, but with a non house broken dog.
