I don't think it's necessarily a good or a bad idea. I do think it is great that you can talk to her about this.
Believe it or not, she probably knows that you are masturbating or assumes that you have anyways. Remember, your parents went through puberty and growing up already.

I agree - EVERY parent knows that their kid masturbates...and has a pretty good idea when they are doing too. I know we know for sure almost exactly when ours started.... It's not something they commonly talk about with their kid because it is kind of a private thing - no more than they talk about their kid using the bathroom... But, I'm pretty sure she knows, or at least suspects, you do it.
That said - if your relationship is that good, there is no downside of talking to your mom. We have a pretty open line of communications in my family - and we have had a discussion or two about it!

If it's not a good relationship - then I don't see any advantage of having that conversation personally. If you have questions about it, though, and you can't find the answers from a reliable source elsewhere...then I would talk to your mom. But just to tell her you masturbate - I don't think that conversation is necessary!
