6-8 hundred $ tests. No answers!--saw the thing about new jeans on here and stopped sitting on my hands when wearing my new jeans and on the computer, and i am cured. also as we age our skin does become more transparent and grayish. Also Many reasons can cause the same similar symptoms.

First of all I am SO thankful to have found this website and secondly thank you to the woman who posted this picture. I had this same thing happen yesterday afternoon. At first I thought it was dye from a paper-plate or a paper towel. Then I blamed it on eating bacon and perhaps the nitrates reacted with the silver jewelry I had on ,but when I saw everyone's posts-goodness. I am not on any meds nor did I experience a drastic change in temps. Thankfully, I showed it to my family and then when I washed my hands-the soap suds turned a bluish color-I do have pictures of where I dried my hands-a definite navy color but my hands looked like they had newspaper print all over them-grayish/blackish before I washed them. It came back but looked less intense-more like the hands in this picture. I took all my jewelry off. It did not come back.Very strange-no other symptoms-no swelling/tingling/itchy-nothing else only discoloration.

If you're cold, the blood arteries pull away from the skin.maybe thats why, cos this only happens to me when I'm in a cold room

The same thing for me. I wash my hands, the color comes off as though it is dirt, and then it comes back. I wash, it comes off. My left hand gets darker than my right. This began yesterday - and what I've touched were that seemed to have characteristics that COULD cause discoloration included: fertilizer and transplant soil when planting beans; chalk boards; and my bowling ball. But then today my hands are "leeching" the grayish/blue again. As others have mentioned, I am glad to have found this page, and sad that none of us has had a breakthrough in understanding what this may be.

I'm on blood pressure meds, prozac for depression, and vitamin D and have been taking these for some time. So, not likely in my mind that the drugs are having this effect - but hay, who knows?

Hope someone here has a breakthrough in understanding what we are all experiencing... Best to you all!

Even though most posts are old, this still comes up as a result so I thought I would post. There is something related to anemia or low iron and the graying of the hands. Get your iron checked!

Too funny... I was in a panic the first time that my hands turned a gray to black color. Last night it happened again and freaked my whole family out!! The color was so strange, but I too think that I figured it out. I was sitting at the kitchen table and I think that I tucked my hands between or under my legs to keep them warm. I think that our jeans are being “painted” with strange chemicals to get the different dark shades that are popular right now. Notice the weird smell that jeans have now a days? I blame the jeans. I washed my hands with really warm water and washed it all off. I then sat back down at the table again and caught myself tucking my hands again.... my hands turned a lighter shade of gray this time. It has to be the jeans!!

I am 14 years old currently and I also have this condition. Im not sure what it is but im not on my period and i havent taken any types of birth contol pills. My hands turn a silvery color on my hands on the front and back of my fingers it is mainly silver on my knuckles and this might not make sense but like the part near ur thumb that is a big muscle. My hands dont hurt or go numb. My sister’s hands also turn gray and she is 16. My parents wont take me to a doctor because it could just be some random thing and my parents shouldnt spend all that money on tests that prove nothing. If anybody finds something out or thinks i should see a doctor i am all ears. I hope i could be of help.
