I had a Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) during April 2018. It was moderately successful and provided relief. However, I am still having issues with urgency off and on with all the classic symptoms of BPH. Mine is rated at 30-40 grams, relatively small as compared to most people on this blog. Thinking about GL, which is what my Uro suggested before I had PAE. Thanks for all the ifo and scaring the hell out of me, but it does give me confidence to know it is doable. My PAE experience was remarkable with none of the issues outlined by some on a bad PAE experience. My discomfort was for 12 hours and thereafter, absolutely none. Restricted for two weeks of lifting and driving. The one thing I noticed in all comments was no one said anything about steroids (Prednisone Pak 20mg) after GL. PAE medications incorporated this med and it greatly promotes healing. Thanks for all the comments, good and bad experiences. It has gone a long way in my decision making and I will move forward with GL.

interesting and helpful comments here on this site.....Im 66 and have dealt with the usual symptoms of BPH for over ten years....Tamsulosin was the approach taken at that time and was very helpful for many years...however, the last few years the symptoms returned , and very significantly... prostate now 4 time normal size, but no cancer issues...was using tamsulosin twice a day then, but no help except being dizzy from the drug...so...three days ago I received the Green Light Laser surgery that's been discussed here....so far I have this to say......urine stream, after catheter removal one day later, was greatly improved with full bladder emptying wherever I pee, and thats saying a lot, since its been years since that happened.... painful and bleeding as I was told to expect to start, but seeing improvement everyday.....still having to go frequently, and only have about a I minuted time frame from needing to pee, and not being able to hold it...so staying near the bathroom around the house....light walking and some Yardwork to keep the circulation working well.....hope I don't go backwards in how things are working, as some of your comments have suggested could happen....ill try to keep reporting to help others ......these have been helpful comments...

Took me about a year before I could urinate without thinking it was uncomfortable. Sitting was bad for a long time too. Started ED too. Erections are now very rare.

I had it done 9 days ago and, although I had to stay in hospital overnight, and had catheter in for 2 1/2 days (apparently had a larger prostate removed), everything seems fine now (except going to washroom several times a night yet). I have a very steady and big stream now and walking about 3 km a day otherwise itching to get back into serious exercise routine. Doc said to wait two weeks but, I am being cautious so far...hope that helps...

btw - I had TURP many years ago and GL was soooo much better than that! Totally painless. I still have to go through several weeks of abstinence from strenuous exercise (and sex, of course) as whether you have TURP or GL, prostate STILL has to reheal so, I still have some penis tip discomfort (wouldn't call it pain, exactly) and some frequent urinations. But, am hoping for the best in a month or so...

I wish I would have seen this 2 weeks ago. I had mind done 6 days ago. I get up about every 45 minutes. Sometimes I get a stream and sometimes a dribble. I am very weak. I wasn't really having much in the way of problems, so I feel really stupid about doing this. They thought it might start affecting my bladder and kidneys. I feel like I might be getting dehydrated so I try to drink but it seems like it just goes right through me. It seems like a lot of us thought this was going to be a couple day recovery and no big deal and our doctors don't seem to be responding to us. I really didn't know if I might be dying so it was nice to see so many have the same problems, but I feel bad for all of us

I had my green light done nine days ago and things seem to be going well. Stream is good mild pain during urination and hardly any bleeding. I had my catheter in four days due to the holidays so I think some of my pain is probably from that. I was tempted to have sex but after reading your post I decided not to, not going to chance it too soon. Thanks for the post.

So wanted to give my insight on fixing my BPH. So 3 years ago I had a procedure called Urolift . This didn’t help me whatsoever. So fast forward 2 years and decided to do a procedure called Rezum. This is where they shoot you with steam into the Prostate so called shots. This I was awake for and was not fun. One should be put under anesthesia for this. Unfortunately with this procedure I had a bit of tissue that’s was still hanging around so this is when I went with the Green laser surgery. So far it has been 3 days after surgery and I’m peeing a strong steam. Some blood

I had green light surgery and my catheter was only in for 8 hrs. My flow is incredible, life changing. I should have had it done years ago.

Did anyone's urologist discuss Alpha-reductase inhibitors to slow the prostates growth and even aid in its reduction as an option to Green light laser PVP or other proceedures? My urologist and Doctor never even mentioned it as an option, I found it on their website just days before the surgery. I finally got a chance to ask him about it and he quickly said no he has to do the proceedure (get paid). I was afraid if i did not go ahead now I would have to go through all the tests again later. After the pain of the surgery and post op I think I would have insisted on trying the AlphReductase first but no one would talk about it so I know little about it. I would force more info about them first before surgery if I had it to do over. Pain on a scale of 0-10 was 15 several times.

75 yr old here. I had GL surgery 13 days ago. In addition to the BPH, I had been gaving UTI infections, one of which was extremely painful and lasted almost a month. According to my urologist/ surgeon, that results from not being able to empty the bladder so bacteria never really get flushed out entirely. The catheter was in for a little over a day. Peed successfully right after, with some blood, which was expected. That cleared up in a day or so, with a few drops at the start occasionally afterwards. That was basically insignificant. The urine stream was instantaneously better, like a teenager really. I had no pain or spasms whatsoever, aside from the discomfort of the catheter. I came home with pain perscriptions but didn’t need any. The surgeon also removed several stones, and the pain near my right groin disappeared. The outcome was so much better than I had expected. I was out walking the dog a day after the procedure. The hospital aftercare printed handout stated no sex for 10 days. We had it at 12 days and everything worked great with no blood or pain and a full erection without medication, which is a first in a long while. I am so grateful to the surgeon. I probably should have had this years ago, but things happen in their own time. I hope my experience helps someone here.

I had the GL laser surgery, and have had to have the catheter in 5 days. I was told that a "retro-grade" orgasm may result. But, that is of little concern unless you are trying to have children.
