Any thoughts on this, people? I have a hard lump on my wrist joint that feels like a bone. It seems to be something like additional bone growth, and I am pretty sure that it should not really be there. Other people don't have this, I think! So what should I do about this? Should I see a doctor?

Lumps always worry me, and I normally see a doctor if something is out of the ordinary, particularly for things that newly appeared. Mind you, what you are just describing sounds like a broken wrist that healed in an unusual way. If that is the case, they might have to break the bone again and set it properly.

But hang on, I am sure that I would have noticed if I had broken my wrist! That would have hurt and be caused by something quite serious. So actually, I am sure that I didn't break my wrist. Are there any other possible causes of lumps on the wrist? Please keep your thoughts coming!

Quite often lumps on your wrists can be ganglion cysts. They are very common and can sometimes be painful. In the olden days people used to hit them with the bible to push them back in- its not advised now as it can cause infection and more trouble than you have to begin with!! They are typically fluid filled ( doesnt mean they will be soft) and can be caused by over stretching the tendon and so the synovial fluid leaks and forms a pouch. Sometimes they can go away on their own.
Do see a dr if you are concerned though.

Hiya, I actually think I have the same thing. My wrists been hurting on and off for about two months as in I'd catch it just lifting something and it would continue to hurt for the next two days. But now I flex my wrist back and I can feel and see a hard lump painful lump about where my thumb attaches to my wrist joint. My theory is simply that I worn away the end of the bone in the joint at it tried to repair itself. But anyway I'm going doctors because a have a milder one in my other wrists to. If this sound familiar at all then just say and I'll feedback what my doctor says x

Mine was a ganglian cyst after all, nothing at all to worry about as they go away quickly and easily as mine has done. They growin the actual joint in the tendons. So basically if you can see or feel it when your wrist is bent back is flexed back then It's probably a ganglian cyst. I found out that they're are a load of different cures you can have. However the most effective and easy is to have someone wrack the lump with a really big, hard book. Sounds scary sure but it doesn't actually hurt any longer than a minute. Though the waiting for them to wack it is very scary. But it definatly did the trick for me. It's becuase it bursts the sack which holds the fuid so then the lump goes and is very unlikely to return. Hope this helps xxx PS make sure your friend doing the wracking gets the right stop really hard, lots of little ones is the wrong place is no good at all.

It is a cyst but mine just so happens to need to be operated on even after doing this the chances of it coming back in the same spot is very high.

I have the same a ganglion sist, I have this about a year now, my neurosurgeon also told me I must just smack it hard with a telephone book or so, that the sist burst. I must try this, just struggling to get one of my family members to assist me in this. It's very painful, I also got carpal tunnel syndrome. Thanks for sharing your story!

I have a similar problem, I have this ball in my wrist joint. I saw a doctor about it and he told me it may not be a ganglion cyst because the ball does not move in my wrist when I move my fingers do and he said it should. Not only does it hurt, it hurts my fingers and my forearm as well, and it also limits mobility in my wrist. I fell on it about 10 years ago and this bump appeared and it would go away and i would do something and it would come up again and i would have to wait for it to go away again. But now my wrist is constantly swollen and this ball is huge in my wrist joint. It is not on the bottom of my wrist, it is on the top middle so it looks like a bone is sticking out. I got referred to a plastic surgeon which is weird and they are going to see what it might be.

I was also told I had a ganglia on my wrist. I had surgery last week to remove it and the doctor discovered it was a growth and not a ganglia. It was attached and pulling on a nerve which was causing a lot of pain. Still waiting for test results to see if the growth was malignant or benign.
