I was 10 weeks when I had my first ultrasound and found out I had 4 4cm cysts and that there could be more. I had 2 8cm cysts removed in May 08 but had miscarried the week before so they decided to go ahead and do a Laproscopy. This time my doctor is having a harder time making the decision. I have so many other health factors, the cysts are kind of on the back burner for now, until they start to hurt. My doctor would like to do a c-section (when it comes time) and get the baby and cysts at the same time, if I can wait that long.

I am 38 weeks pregnant and had a cyst discovered at a 12 week scan I had done.
The cyst turned out to be a mucinous cyst which they removed at 17 weeks (as it was safer for the baby for me to wait longer for the operation). As the cyst was approx. 14cm x 16cm x 18cm, it had to be removed. Initial results have come back that it was 'borderline' so more tests for me after bubs comes along but the good news is that bubs did fine and his impending arrival is very much being looked forward to.
I lost one of my ovaries during the operation, however, had been told beforehand that they couldn't locate one of the ovaries on the scan so I knew there was a chance that was going to happen. In that sense, I had the mindset that if the baby was okay and I lost the ovary, I could live with that. Had I lost the baby and the ovary, it would have been a different story for me as far as my mental health was concerned. I also have to look at the positive though that given how mangled the ovary that was removed was, I can't imagine it was doing a whole lot in the conception stakes in any event, so hopefully if I try for no. 2, it will not have any effect on my chances (& at least mentally I am not seeing it as an obstacle to conceiving again).
I feel for anyone in this position as I have come through okay, but can remember what a stressful time it was for me and I really put my partner through the ringer with my ups and downs as playing over the different scenarious in your head can do funny things.
I had no 'symptoms' that I had a cyst or that something was wrong. What I did have was an expanding stomach and 6kg weight gain that I did discuss with my GP who wrote it off as being a side effect from some medication I was on. Needless to say, she is no longer my GP. I think that was probably one of the most upsetting things - that I had bought my concerns about my weight gain (well prior to getting pregnant) to my doctor and not had it investigated further. It may sound naive, but having never in my life had trouble with my weight, and having always been a very slim person, how is one to know when they do get to that stage in life where they do start putting on weight, where that weight is going to go. You put faith in the professional you are paying to look into these things.

I had a grape fruit sized ovarian cyst on my right ovary that kept growing while I was peragnant. I chose to wait till after my baby was born to remove it. They said that there was nothing left of the ovary and also had to remove my tube as well. They first found the cyst in my first pre-natel check up when they felt my utras. I was sent to sn ultrasound tech. and it was the first thing we saw. This big black mass. They monitored me closly and at one point the cyst stuck out farther then my baby bump. You could move it around. It was very wierd! They removed it 3 months after my baby was born. They said if I waited any longer I would have ended up crawling into the ER out of severe pain because it had twisted and was loosing blood supply. I'm happy I waited because of all the other complications I had during my pregnancy.
I'd say the best thing you could do for your wife is just be there for her! My husband acctually slep with me in the hospital bed evey night we were there. I just needed love and support. Because directally after the surgary was a lot of pain!!!
If anyone has any questions I'd love to answer them. I've been through alot and everything ended up great! I have two beautiful girls and another baby on the way! Congrats to all you moms out there!

i am 12 weeks pregnant and have a cyst larger than the baby. They said that they will have to operate in the second trimester. They said typically they shrink but however mine is large enough now that it is rotating my ovary and killing it because the blood cannot leave it. Does anyone have any suggestions for naturally shrinking the cyst so i don't have to have surgery?

I am 17 1/2 weeks pregnant (with my second) and have just got out of hospital after having a cyst removed. My cyst was discovered at my 8 week scan and was about 10 x 10 centimetres. I had no symptoms of having the cyst, and no previous history of cysts. My Obgyn thought it was a dermoid cyst and indicated from the start that it would probably need to be removed during 2nd trimester (16-17 weeks). He said at that size it was unlikely to disappear (I think especially being a dermoid), and that if it twisted (torsion) I would probably go into labour, and if it burst I would get peritonitis. Both bad news for bub. He said that surgery at this time was safe, and the risk of losing the baby extremely low. I had the removal via laparotomy (not laproscopy) I think because of the size and also to allow 'plenty of room to work in' - probably a good thing as the ovary and cyst were lying behind the placenta. My Obgyn planned to try and preserve my ovary and luckily was able to. I didn't realise the incision would be so big (18cm across top of bikini line) so recovery is proving a bit more painful than I had imagined. Stitches are dissolvable which is good. My Obgyn also said the surgery should not impact on me being able to have a natural birth.
I spent most of 2009 trying to get pregnant. I had strange/irregular periods which I reported to my GP on several occasions but no further investigation was made. In hindsight I wish I had persisted more so this could have been dealt with before falling pregnant.

Hi, My wife at 22wks pregant found that a 10cm cyst was on her left ovary. Right now she is having the cyst removed, but we cant help but be concerned about the baby. I read through what has been written here and some comfort was gained. Thank you for letting other know about your problems. The doctors says this is not a very comon procedure and that there is risk, but then again, they have to be certain , i guess.

I am 14 weeks pregnant and also have an ovarian cysts on my left ovary and they say it is fixed. It is about 10cm. Recently, they found that is has a septation. I went and saw a oncology (cancer specialist) gyno and he told me the chances of having a miscarriage is between 25-50%. Which really confuses me after hearing from all of you that the chances are pretty low. So now I have to make a decision of whether or not to have surgery now and risk the chance of losing the baby or have it after the baby is born and risk the chance of cancer. Did anyone else have a septation in their cyst?

After starting some research I came across this chat with stories similar to mine. Soothing and scary at once. I'm 9 weeks pregnant with our 1st child and not a spring chicken. The obgyn thought I was further along than I estimated at the 1st visit due to the manual feel of the uterus. He had me come in for an early ultrasound the following week (week 7) to check this. It turned out to be and ovarian cyst, 10cm (by the way I thought that was huge but many of yours are twice as large!).
Okay so i'm incredibly taken aback, alone and just trying to hold it together until I could leave the office. I didn't ask and he didn't mention a threat of losing the ovary, as many of your stories relate. Ahhh! He did say he'd have me come back in a month to see it again and then would schedule surgery in which he'd drain and remove the cyst. I see that one woman who did miscarry was still in her 1st trimester during the surgery (so sorry). Hoping that waiting until the 2nd trimester greatly reduces the chance of losing the pregnancy as many of you also listed. Also I imagine having your stomach cut open recently before labor may inhibit natural child birth? Did you have to have a c-section?
I'm trying to act as though it's no big deal, but am secretly really afraid. I'm in my thirties. This is our first child and it took over a year to get pregnant. If I lose an ovary and need to recover the chances of making it work in the future seem slim. ?

I am 13 weeks pregnant and have a 10cm cyst in my right ovary. My doctor wants to do surgery but also wants me to see a specialist for a second opinion. I am very scared and stressed out. my doctor has told me that if they do the surgery it is going to be a midline incision, cutting me from top to bottom. I am confused because i dont see why they cant do a lower quadrant incision. If anyone has had this surgery I would really like to hear about it. thank you!
